Who says people don't use/buy it?

      • +24

and people buy aldi laundrite powder…

      • +11

Oh you know people? Name every person.

    • +5

Exactly - Aldi wouldn't be selling it if nobody bought it!

  • +16

People buy thats why its on shelf.

  • +1

Feelings > Facts? Or have some evidence it's not used?!?

      • +8

Based on what evidence? The 32 in your worldview ppl that you asked?
Talk about trivial and frivolous posts

      • +3

name those people. What's your data.

Aldi's Insights Analysts would know how people are buying it, the average age, gender and income. They would have the data and they'd know if they are selling the units they want to sell.

My missus is a specialist in the field and she wouldn't make a statement based on the data you have.

        • +8

Plot twist. OP works for Aldi Insights Analysts and (profanity) up their analysis for the product big time. It isn't selling. Their end of year bonus depends on sales for Laundrite Powder so they're here to low-key spruik it.

          /s

          • +3

            @tenpercent: Plot twist 2.(Once upon a time…..)
OP read a few good Laundrite reviews and decided to start up a side gig, and went to all their local Aldi stores and bought out all the Laundrite Powder. Listed it on FB MP at 75% markup. Not a single sale. Gradually kept dropping price until it was at 50% of purchase price. Still no buyers. OP still has all the Laundrite Powder cluttering up their living room.
Why-oh why- People Won't Use ALDI Laundrite Powder?
            /s

            • @Protractor: Sounds more than plausible …

And could explain why OP started this thread at all.

          • +1

@tenpercent: Plot twist 3. OP is @brad1-8tsi missus

  • +6

    Brand loyalty?
    Performance issues?
    Allergy/sensitivity?

Price isn’t everything with this kind of product

    • +13

i dont like the taste too

  • +5

because not everyone shops at ALDI.
    for me …

    nearest ALDI is 9.5km.
    nearest Coles is 3.5km.
    nearest WW is 2.4km
nearest IGA is a simple 300 metre walk away.

[EDIT] … saying that though, we do drive to costco once a month or so … to buy up for my GF's family.
although - (as it is with costco) - often spend $400+ in one go.

whereas think ppl that go to ALDI wouldn't be spending that much in 1 single shop.

    • +4

      Try 900km.

      • +14

        Why would I try 900km

        • +3

          🤦‍♂️ oh dear

      • +2

Get yourself a Proclaimer, just order them a taxi for the last 59 miles.

    • +1

Shopping at IGA only, oof that's gotta hurt

      • you'll be surprise, IGA has some decent specials on their weekly catalogue

  • +7

is there a reason why people dont use reject shop brand powder? its 4kg for $4.xx

who would be silly enough to be using aldi laundrite??

    ……

    • +1

Psychological? I would think why would I try a detergent that's been rejected?

    • That's as ridiculous as suggesting 6 minute abs!. $5 is obviously the optimal price-point.

  • +3

Who are you to assume what other people know and don't know? How do you know what other people are/aren't using it? Do you have any stats to back up aldi is selling 0 Laundrite Powder?

  • +8

Some people don't live near an Aldi.

And if I remember correctly, in tests the Laundrite did not perform very well. But the Aldi Trimat was a top performer and its what I use. I find it as good or better than the known brands. The Aldi spray stain remover is also a top performer.

    • +1

Yes the di san stain remover was ace when I used it circa 2019. It was especially awesome at removing shower screen soap scum.

      • +1

You should try the Aldi shower cleaner,
I highly recommend combining with Bunnings shower brush sponge.
        It’s too easy .

        • Cheers haven’t seen it, will look it up next time

    • +7

In the November 2024 issue, it scored better than Aldi Trimat and was $0.11 per wash vs Trimat at $0.40 per wash. It was on par with Omo Ulitmate but at 1/8 the price per wash.

  • -1

Haven’t tried it but assume it will make me itchy as hell. Been there done that with the cheaper brands. Why risk it when radiant commercial is cheap too

    • +1

Choice review makes it sound ok

      • +4

Why doesn't anybody read Choice reviews?

        • +6

          The paywall.

    • same, looks like I'm sensitive to one of the components of Aldi stuff, itching and redness. Radiant is fine for me

  • +4

I only trust BioZet. The ads have convinced me anything else won't clean properly.

    • +3

      i wash in warm water.
      i use Cold Power.
      i've always been a rebel.

  • +1

perhaps this is a now a discontinued item (or store specific).
have just searched ALDI's website - and it's not showing as being listed for sale.

Yet can confirm it was listed on ALDI's website 1 month ago (thanks to google).

Soooo … that may also be why it was cheap +++ not many ppl know about said item.

  • +1

I don't use it because a few years ago I found a large quantity of laundry sheets on hard rubbish and haven't had to buy laundry detergent since. My clothes are clean and my wallet is better off.

    • I found a large quantity of laundry sheets on hard rubbish.

There's a reason why the laundry sheets was left in hard rubbish. That's where they belong.

They have so little detergents in each sheet, you may as well use plain water (which is quite good at cleaning).

      • -1

They seem to work well. I just put a whole sheet into the front loader. No point being stingy with them, I have plenty.

        • Even a whole sheet doesn't work well.

Laundry sheets are a scam. At least you didn't pay for it.

          • -1

@JimB: If they were a scam then why do they get repeat business?

            • +1

@banana365: Because people think they work.

Similar to the vitamin supplement industry.

              • @JimB: Bit of a difference with vitamins as the placebo effect can be significant. Either your clothes are clean or they're not.

                • +1

@banana365: "Either your clothes are clean or they're not."

                  There's levels of cleanliness.

                  https://www.choice.com.au/home-and-living/laundry-and-cleani…

Omo Ultimate Powder Front Loader - overall 86%
Aldi Laundrite Laundry Powder Front Loader- 79 %
Re.stor Pre-measured Laundry Detergent Sheets Tropical Breeze Front Loader 52 %
                  Water Only Front Loader - 50 %

52% score for the sheets are nothing to write home about when using just water only scores 50% lol

Washing without any detergent is better than not washing at all. So it's not black and white to claim "Either your clothes are clean or they're not."

Ironically while Aldi Laundrite Laundry Powder does well, Aldi Laundrite Liquid scores very poorly. Just as good/poor as water only.

                  • -1

@JimB: There are levels of cleanliness. The thing about that is YOU CAN SEE IT. There's no placebo effect for visible results, unless laundry sheets somehow subconsciously affect visual processing. Not everyone has the same laundry requirements. A mechanic is going to need something more effective than an office worker.

If you're saying they are useless but the continued sales show people continue to use them, then you're going to need to come up with something a bit better than a mild percentage difference, particularly as it takes several cycles to get rid of existing detergent in the machine.

                    • +1

@banana365: "the continued sales show people continue to use them" is not a good argument to show effective a product is.

There are many products out there which as just shonky or provides no benefits whatsoever other than the placebo effect.

                      • @JimB: Again, there is no placebo effect for visual results.

                  • -1

@JimB: Just like laundry powder there are also multiple brands of laundry sheets. With the ones I got I can see plenty of suds and the clothes come out clean.

                    • +1

@JIMB0: Unfortunately they are all pretty shit.

Happy to be corrected if you can find an unsponsored review comparing the one you have with powder/liquid.

I’m sure if they worked well people wouldn’t be throwing them out in hard waste.

    • +1

well for me I use OMO as I have a front loading machine and OMO performs better than the Aldi stuff. I usually only buy on half price special so it is not a significant cost problem.

      • Omo sensitive is the one we've tested that won't set off the kids' skin.

  • +12

When I voted last Saturday ALDI Laundrite Powder wasn't even on the Ballot paper.

  • Is There a Reason Why People Won't Use ALDI Laundrite Powder?

    I don’t like it… happy?

    • +1

I think the name sucks. That's enough.

  • +5

they don't even know of it…

people buy omo, cold powder and fab…

MANY people are not using it or even heard of it…

why don't MORE people use it? not no one…

I feel like OP is one of those people that leaves the house and thinks people are watching them.

  • +1

Everyone will buy what they prefer, and I'm sure a lot of people stick to what they're comfortable with.

I personally rotate between different brands and products, depending on what's most cost effective and the effectiveness of the product, which is subject to change depending on sales and catalogue specisls - I recently stocked up as per Catch' closing down sales so I'm good for a little while!

I'll make a wild assumption here and say that people must be buying Aldi's powder otherwise they wouldn't stock it 🤷

  • +2

People aren't logical. They don't try every brand available, organize the results in a table and then pick the one which delivers the best results at the cheapest price.

Instead, they pick something based on subjective qualities, like familiarity, branding, smell, and use it until they see a reason to change.

    • +1

This. I suspect most buy what their mum used. Familiar smell, must be OK if mum uses it.

  • So it's exactly the same price as both of the big supermarket chains' home brand laundry powder? Why should people be using it?

  • +1

I eavesdropped on the people you're talking about, apparently they don't buy it because it shrinks your pecker 2 inches per box you get through and rotates your eyes until they reach 45 degree angles. Who knew?

    • -5

so it doesn't hit the cervix?

  • Ill give it a go

  • I used this powder in my front loader. It clumped and didn't dissolve properly leaving bits of detergent over the clothes. I had to rinse my clothes again to try and get the bits of detergent off them. I threw the packet out and won't be buying it again.

    • +2

The Aldi stuff is average at best to awful for front loaders. while price comes out cheaper you have a lot of rewashing to do and get overall subpar results.

    • one tablespoon of powder in the drum is all you need in front loader and it dissolves fine

      • -1

No credit to the cookbook you got that from?

Found Brooki, she's still at it…

  • I've used it for years. Never had any problems with it. Have a front loader.

  • +1

OP, show us a photo of a receipt of your purchase of Aldi Laundrite Laundry Powder.

    Obvious troll is obvious.

    • +1

Does the OPs post history indicate your allegation has merit?

      • The OPs posting history of deals quite frankly indicates he can ask (almost) anything he wants in the forums. IMO.

Wheres your (or even my own) posting of deals might indicate you (we) shouldn't be so unkind to others.

        Those troublesome glass houses.

        • Thanks. Most informative.

There's deals and there's posts based on fairy dust. So frankly, apples and oranges tennis balls.

  • It actually has decent reviews.

I think most people don't buy cheap laundry detergent (including myself) is that OMO ulitimate is $8/kg (on sale), of which 1kg would last me say 3 months. I'm sure 5kg lasts me over a year.

For the <$1 a week I spend on laundry detergent, I just what to ensure that I'm using the best detergent possible. The cost of detergent is very little compared to the time spend doing the laundry itself.

When my OMO runs out, I'm going to give it a go. Can always refund it if not doesn't work well, leaves residue or irritates your skin.

Leaving residue or irritating your skin could be caused by using way too much detergent which most people are guilty of. Using more detergent does not always result in a better wash, it could be the opposite.

    • Do you use a front loader?

How much powder do you use?

I think I'm using too much.

      • front loader.

        About 1 tablespoon for a regular 7kg load. 1.5 tablespoons for a 10kg load.

Anyway try it out. YMMV. If you live in WA or SA, you may need more detergent due to the water hardness.

        https://www.choice.com.au/home-and-living/laundry-and-cleani…

"We've found that you can get just as good a wash using half the amount of powder or liquid detergent, which can reduce your cost per wash, but you can't change the amount of detergent in a capsule."

        • +1

In Melbourne, good (not hard water). I've been using the scoops but I'll cut down the serving size and see what happens

        • Why doesn't anybody use top loaders?
