The BE6500 Wi-Fi 7 router seems to be ATL

  • I’ve currently got a 2 point google wifi setup, and wondering if anyone has gone from a mesh to a single point asus and found no wifi coverage/speed difference??

    • +1

Using Orbi RBR50 with 2 satellites before. Main router was located at one end of my house, and need the satellite to boost the signals for the camera and cat food feeders in the laundry.

Recently switched to RT-AX86U Pro. Only one Asus router covered the whole place (approx 790 sq. feet, 2 storey). Happy.

    • +1

Why not both, have the Asus be a router and then the Google's be access points.

    • -1

One end of the house with a new WiFi 7 access point, at the other end (kitchen / family room), speed and latency is inferior to an old WiFi 6 access point near there. When you look at the signal strength chart, it is quite obvious. However, it does depend on your NBN speed, if you are on 100/20, for now, it's most likely going to be fine.

6GHz is not relevant for the products listed in this deal (none of them supports that). 6GHz's coverage is noticeable worse than 5GHz WiFi.

NBN upgrade is coming later this year, 100/20 will become 500/50 (HFC and FTTP), so if you are buying a new router, I suggest you take that into consideration and ensure your setup can achieve 500/50 wirelessly throughout the house (unless you are 100% sure the devices that really need 500/50 will be connected via wires). If you are interested in 2000/200 or 2000/100 NBN later on, then it is even more challenging.

      • Yeah the NBN upgrade is why im considering upgrading. I'm on 100/20 HFC now

How does the TUF AX6000 compare to the ASUS ROG Rapture GT-AX6000 ??

    • +1

Seems like they are imported stock based off the seller name, most likely EU routers so they will have weaker signal.

      • You maybe right, Thanks for that info

ASUS TUF Gaming AX6000 or ASUS RT-AX86U Pro AX5700?

If you have many connected devices (eg. over 20) [doubled RAM]
Or if you are aim to flash to Merlin firmware [Broadcom chipset]
      then go with AX5700

otherwise AX6000 has slightly wider wifi coverage and enough for most usecases

      • Where did you get the info that the AX6000 isn’t supported by OpenWRT? The wiki page says it is and on reddit they call out the filogic830 as one of the better SOCs for openwrt supposedly wifi support and acceleration is better on mediatek SOCs then broadcom

          yes, you are right
committed the mistake of over relying on chatGPT :(

    • I recently got the AX86U Pro and WiFi coverage is 3x better than my old router. Getting 5 bars on my iPhone in areas where I wouldn't get reception. Excellent device!

None of them show up as being able to ship to me. I don't understand why anyone in Australia can't get these deals.

"This item cannot be shipped to your selected delivery location. Please choose a different delivery location."

If I change my postcode to a Perth one, deal is available/it can ship, but my actual postcode in WA, I get that sh*%%y message.

  • Any idea which has the best wifi coverage distance wise? I have smart cameras around the house and suffer with random drop outs… despite being on Google Mesh!

    • Buy one that suits your needs and if that's not enough buy a second Asus router to create a mesh Wi-Fi network.

  • How easy is it to run one of these (such as the AX4200) with a FTTC NBN?
I assume you keep the NBN box, but bin your old TPG modem (TP-Link VR1600)?

    • Yeah for FTTC you have to use the nbn NCD box + Asus router. Who is your nbn provider?

You should be eligible to swap from FTTC to FTTP.

  • Is the ax4200 overkill just for using it as AImesh as a node in the house? No internet at the back of the house so wanted to use a node with a wired backhaul

  • +1

I don't know anything about these except my wifi sucks due to walls/distance in my house from my bedroom. Which one should I be considering?

    • you can get 2 of the AX4200 and form a mesh network (AiMesh)
