Just got the rocking chair so I can put it in the porch and stare down passers by.

If you play around with the "Choose cover" option on the website, you'll very quickly see the +/- prices in that sliding panel are buggy and don't make any sense at all.

Anyway, here are the prices for the covers:

    Cover Regular price Sale price
Knisa (Black or Light beige) $99 $49.40
Skifebo (Dark grey or Yellow) $149 $74.50
Hillared (Anthracite, Beige or Dark blue) $199 $99.50
Gunnared (Beige, Dark grey or Light green) $219 $109.50
  • I want chairs I can put outside on my balcony, which isn't covered. This doesn't seem like the one.

  • Click and collect dates only available for this month. Can't pick June dates?

  • Does the rocking chair do well as a nursing chair?

  • Is it worth getting the Skiftebo ($74.50) over Knisa ($49.50)? Which cushion cover is removable and washable?

    • I did, looks a little thicker with more of a head-rest.

      • Do you know if the cushion cover is removable for washing?

        • It isn't!

I have a previous model, that is.

          Armchair cushion
          Vacuum clean.

Wipe clean with a damp cloth.

          • @wisdomtooth: Seems like neither are washable.

The headrest would be alright but there aren't many colours in the skiftebo all maybe the Knisa light beige will do, $50 sounds better for something I don't exactly need.

        • I had a look just last week, the cover looks like it would be removable with some work but it's actually padded so you would be washing some sponge with the cover. The label also says do not wash. It reminded me of an ironing board cover with the padding stitched onto the cotton.

  • For anyone interested in the design side of these, vintage examples exist - I have one in camel leather, it’s tufted like a chesterfield and twice as thick in the cushion compared to modern ones. The backing is a rough canvas, almost like hessian, and can be slipped off to wash it (not that I would given how old it is). It’s super comfy to sit in and has a nice bounce, feels like a hug. Not as cheap as this deal is though, sadly.

  • They must be due for a new range of cushion cover designs, perhaps why these were half price?

Wasn’t it the 50th anniversary or something?
If only the footstools and footstool cushions were on sale too.
Hard to swallow the $59 for a footstool when the chair with cushion is $49.

      • Oh right. Probably yes, didn't know.

I agree plus they take up space. The other stuff was good for half price.

    • they had plenty of options when I ordered.
can choose frame colour and cushion colour and mix and match so you could get some weird looking combinations if you wanted.

I almost bought all red. but decided it was a bit much because the red looked like paint red.

one thing cushion related is, it velcro's to the back rest (because the velcro on the chair is shorter than the cushion, I made sure to velcro it on the high side just incase it somehow slips down over the years, it probably won't because velcro but just in case), but it doesn't velcro to the bottom. it just sits kind loose.

I guess when you sit in it it will slide kind of back into position. but I thought it could have done with more grip or maybe a string on the middle of the cushion so you can tie it around the back. you expect ikea to think of things like this you know. 💁‍♀️

  • just put mine together.

pretty easy and no heavy lifting it was good. all you need is the tool. even the little metal screw in cylinder parts the instruction says to "align" with a screwdriver didn't need one. just made sure hole was facing up and screw went in easy.
the trickest part was putting the metal rods in together with the screw, I figured it out by making sure the screw had hooked in first (barely start screwing) then lifted the part where the metal rod goes in and put it in both sides at once (like don't fully drop the metal rod in all the way on either side it makes it more difficult).
it was easy after I figured it out though.

some of the holes made in the wood for the metal bits werent the best quality. small splinters that had to be removed by finger and some even in the hole a bit which I used the tool to pull out. I guess this is normal for ikea.

after I finished I noticed the last step was tighten the screw on both sides "6x". so I figure you are meant to only soft tighten those the first time, I loosened them all and set it on the floor again then tightened again.
so after this on what I think is a flat floor, there was some wobble of the legs, like they werent equal. a tiny bit only noticeable when you press down on the chair (it's a bit tricky to tell because the U shaped legs are designed to flex).

but once I put it where I wanted it and sat in it. it was fine. no creakes or sounds at all. I half expected the frame to cry out in pain every time I sat down. 😂
felt strong enough for me when I sat down. very happy.

also it wasn't as tricky to stand up from as I remembered. maybe some slight changes over the years? not sure.
also the angle of the backrest is very nice for relaxing but still natural. which is exactly what I wanted it for.
