Why not use old engine oil or old cooking oil? (Maybe not cooking oil dont want to smell like fried chicken) Your just lubing the chain on the blade. Happy to read replies.
Usually the purpose made stuff is high viscosity and high surface tension, which makes it less likely to fling of the blade as it whips around.
But if you don't care about getting oil on the wood you cut (or yourself), yeah the used stuff is a good option. You burn through it faster but it's free so wgaf
