  • I got the crucial t500 2 TB for $187 in the FlashMom sale. It's currently $195.32 with the Delhi code. These are so close performance wise it probably won't make a difference.

T500 has dram so that one is better for writes.

      • +2

Long writes is what dram helps with

      https://cdn.mos.cms.futurecdn.net/KeLmEw8tRFLqJMo5LDDF39-102…

The T500 has a missing DRAM Multiplexer and the write speed drops to ~150mb/s, making it slower than SATA drives (500mb/s) or 7200rpm HDDs (270mb/s) for seq write. Crucial really dropped the bag with that drive.

The rated number on the box only applies for the first hundred or so GB and when the drive is completely empty.

Would not buy T500 even at 120-150, especially when NM790 2TB exists around $180.

NM790 has better endurance (by 20%) and filled speed than both top end 990 Pro and SN850X - (nm790 sustains 2600mb/s for the entire drive, 990 Pro / sn850x drops to 1400-1600mb/s respectively).

      • For my needs the T500 has been excellent 👍

        • Yep, it's not terrible (crucial p2 etc drops to 40mb/s), just correcting the DRAM helps long writes statement by the other 2 posters in this specific case.

This is same price as the current CentreCom deal for the Kingston KC3000. Which is better for an external Mac Mini enclosure?

    • +3

This is better for M.2 enclosures and laptops. KC3000 is somewhat better on desktops

      • +2

Wouldn't the KC3000 be better for M.2 enclosures? Most M.2 enclosures don't support HMB, so DRAM-less SSDs like this SN7100 would suffer a greater performance penalty than DRAM SSDs (like the KC3000).

I also think the KC3000 is more ideal than the SN7100 for laptops. While the SN7100 is much more energy efficient in read/writes than the KC3000, the SN7100 also has a much worse idle power consumption than KC3000 for laptops where PCIe ASPM is usually enabled.

Many of those are just not compatible with double-sided M.2. This means all. 0.3W idle power difference isn't a big deal though.

Pretty sure OP was implying you are affiliated 😏

        • I bet they didn't search what Anarcom is

        • Yeah I was just poking fun ;)
And yes, I did know anarcom means Anarco-Communist.

I noticed the Compatible for PS5 WD BLACK SN850P 2TB is $323.65 on Amazon at the moment,
a fair drop from the $449 RRP and quite a bit lower than the $469 JB Sky-Hi is attempting to extract from it's customers.

    • That's still way higher than buying a random internal M.2 SSD and a heatsink
