Good price for these colour Hue bulbs if you're after a few bulbs, especially if you're keen for more after getting a starter kit from the other day.

2 pack for $113.15 as part of their limited time sale (11% off), but you get 30% off if you buy a second pack (expires 28 May at 08:59am AEST), so it comes to $48/bulb. Currently JB and other stores sell for $69 each.

    $50 for a F.ing light bulb…

    • I agree, on face value that’s insane.

Yeah is crazy. Having said that I got a couple of the previous version on special for kids room. Is still going after 4+ years even though it's used as as a night light every night. Also adds dimming functionality to my old house without having to pay an electrician.

    • The 1600 lumen bulbs are $100 each, lol.

Philips Hue is not an ecosystem you get into if you're short on cash.

  • Does anybody use these in colour mode after the novelty has worn off?
Perhaps some automations that set colours for alerts, or change over the day for mood?

I have a couple of friends who bought these years ago, but I have never seen them in colour mode when visiting. Not after the first couple of months.
We have a lot of the white-ambiance bulbs, and I do have scenes with different colour-temp, but am not sure anyone else notices. :)

    • Colours are great when you gave kids. The rest of the time probably not so much.

      • Oh yeah, I forgot - not Hue, but my son still uses the RGB strip-lighting when gaming in the computer nook. It does add mood.
And thanks to Home Assistant, can be controlled from the Hue dinner.

    • I don't have these, but I use LIFX day dusk white which let you adjust from cold white to red. I wouldn't use RGB, but tunable white is great. Cold white is great in the middle of the day, warm white, oranges and reds are great at night.

We use red lights at night time to promote sleep, and colours occasionally for the kids.

    • I use the accompanying HDMI sync box so that the lights are coordinated to the colours displayed in the video game/movie I am playing.

  • Need bayonet but can’t find it

    Why are these so expensive?

I bought two 2-packs of TP Link multicolour, smart bulbs for $25 each ($50 for 4 bulbs) the other day and have been very happy with them.

Your can create smart actions and shortcuts and the app is pretty intuitive, without the need for any other hardware, although they do integrate with Google and Alexa if you choose.

The price has gone back up to $32 for the 2-pack, but the single bulbs are now $14 each:

Hue bulbs are expensive (by a lot) but good quality, saying that I've recently switched to Yeelight Smart LED Bulbs W4 Lite which costs around $50 for 4 from Aliexpress, took around 1-2 weeks delivered.

No regret and happy with on par quality and user experience, and my wallet is thanking me.

  • Does anyone know the best economical option for some ZigBee smart lights? IKEA tradfri seem best value for bulbs. What about other lighting like led strips? Is this Philips deal any good: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/906195

I have a sonoff ZigBee USB dongle on raspberry pi with Gladys assistant.
