1/2 Price at Woolworths this week 21-27 May. Enjoy!
Last offer was in Feb at Coles.

The Häagen-Dazs ice cream seems more expensive probably because its ingredient list is better.

@Its Bill Murray mentioned "HD have the best ingredients from an ice cream perspective, no fillers, no thickeners etc, just milk, cream, sugar, eggs and flavours".

It also does not contain carrageenan and maltodextrin that may worsen some medical conditions.

Oh nice. I'm glad HD finally gave us the coffee one officially too, it's really good.

Very expensive ice cream but yeah, doesn't tend to make me sick and the flavours are really good so, worth it at this price.

    • Dumb question but how strong is the coffee one? I love coffee but am sensitive to caffeine - I'm scared if I have this at night I won't sleep lol

      • +3

I dunno how to answer that as I am resistant to stimulants. Sadly.

All I can say is it TASTES as sweet and strong as a basic Dare ice coffee, not like, the double espresso one.

    • that coffee and brownie one they discontinued a few years back was all time..

      • The frappucino range was AMAZING yeah. And that was definitely my favourite. Grabbed the last few at my Coles on clearance and then was very sad when I finished them off.

And then that was that. No coffee HD for years except Japanese imports, which are tiny and expensive and…well, too far from home for me to stock up anyway. So, glad we at least have these now.

Thanks, would like to try one of these.

The cost is probably mostly due to refrigerated transport all the way from France.

Bulla has carrageenan. I can't find any premium icecreams with maltodextrin. Happy to learn if there are any.

    • carrageenan and maltodextrin

So those 2 excaberates conditions rather than causes the conditions?

      • Surely they'd cancel each other out

I remember this used to be only 5 bucks (half price) a few years ago. Prices really have gone up – inflation is working overtime!

    • +5

These are almost reaching full price at half price.

      • D'OHH yes

        • 9hundred cents next year this time ;)

    • nobody was ever going to pay $14

HD have the best ingredients from an ice cream perspective, no fillers, no thickeners etc,

just milk, cream, sugar, eggs and flavours. Funny though, the coffee flavour uses only something like 0.1% coffee. This is why I finally bought a Ninja Creami to make my own espresso ice cream.

    • I normally go for Connoisseur but whenever HD is on sale I don't pass up a chance to buy one.

    • Updated the post with your assessment.

True, was just looking at Coles vanilla bean which is highly rated:

      HG:

Fresh Cream (39%), Condensed Skim Milk, Sugar, Water, Egg Yolk, Vanilla Extract.

      Coles:

Ice Cream [Dairy Ingredients (Cream and/or Milk Fat {Cream (Milk), Milk Fat}, Milk Solids), Water, Sugar Syrup, Glucose Syrup (Wheat), Stabiliser (Emulsifiers (471, Palm Oil**, 477), Vegetable Gums (412, 410)), Natural Flavours, Vanilla Bean Seeds (0.03%), Natural Colours (Caramelised Sugar, Carotene)].

    • Yeah most of the flavours don't have quite so simple an ingredients list except for "vanilla" and "strawberries & cream". But even the other flavours have far less than the ingredients list of most other brands, as shown in @spackbase's post.

    • how close does the ninja creami turn out against store purchased ice cream (also what ingredients are you using)?

      • Exactly the same as ice cream texture wise.

        So easy

      • It's good if you like ice crystals in your ice cream

        • I've made a whole bunch but haven't had any issues with ice crystals, comes out smooth as regular icecream

          • @Its Bill Murray: The ninja cremi makes a decent ice cream, comparable to the store bought stuff.

The store bought stuff just isn't that great I'm afraid.

  • European ice-cream is the best.

    • Damn haha all this time i thought hd was a budget brand.

    • The best I had was actually a little shop in San Pedro.

Actually, gusto in Leederville WA I rate as second.

    • I also thought it was European, but actually it is from the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.

  • How does HD compare to Berthillon?

Tried the vanilla one a few weeks ago. Was surprised that it was nowhere near as good as the much cheaper Coles Irresistible and Aldi Kapiti.

  • Aw no speculoos :(

  • Oh sale cause of colder weather yeah you bet….

  • -4

    Which flavour is the best?

    • Vanilla and coffee out of that list. Vanilla is the signature flavour and starting point.

The others I like aren't even sold here (vanilla bean, double belgian choc chip, and dulce de leche)

      • -8

So again, which one is the best?

        • +1

Perhaps just try them for yourself instead of relying on others?

  • I miss their Blueberries flavour. It was the best. Strawberries & cream comes second.

  • -1

Byron Bay ice cream , any flavour.
And also Weis is ok too and they don’t fluff it up,
so weighs twice as much per/litre.

  • If only they sold HD green tea/matcha here…
