    • Ohh so doesn’t apply to TV shows? Bummer…

      • It does…

        • Oh so not every show. The ones I want are all full price.

          Makes sense, thanks.

  • +2

Any additional discounts coming up that stack like 20% off?

    • I'm happy to be proven wrong, but I don't recall there ever being an extra 20% off during the BOGOF sales.

      • +1

Pretty sure there was, I got the LOTR and Hobbit extended editions trilogy for something like $55 ish from memory

        • +4
          • @BaarOzGain: Wow that's a huge bargain. Any hope it'll be on offer again this time round?

        • +1

I got the same! Still in the packaging. One day soon I’ll watch them on the new 77 OLED.

        • @BaarOzGain Your memory is failing you, and the screenshot you’ve provided doesn’t show a further 20% discount, there has never been a 20% off sale at the same time that has stacked with the buy 1 get 1 free BD and 4K sale in May every year. You’re confusing other buy 2 get a third free sales that happen at different times throughout the year, 20% off has stacked with those sales. If you read through the bargain thread on Blu-ray.com and go back to May each year since 2016 which is when the first buy 1 get 1 free BD/4K sale happened at JB HiFi, you’ll see all the proof you need that you’re wrong:

          https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=185173&page=568

      • I don't recall there ever being an extra 20% off either. The most I've seen is 10% off. See last year's thread on the same topic.

        • +2

Iirc there always had been in the last two days or so, but last year there wasn't

          • +1

@justtoreply: Yes there definitely has been but I don't think I saw it last year.. :( fingers crossed this year.. Big mark ups here..

    • +1

no it wouldnt be 20% off anyway

    • +1

Sadly, this is the last day of the sale and I haven't seen any additional discounts.

  • +8

I'm finding it quite tricky this year to pair up two titles in stock at the same store to 'click and collect'. As an example my closest in store copy of Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning - Part 1 in 4K UDH is located 23km away! In a perfect world I would like to pair this up with a UHD copy of Chernobyl which is the same price, but there are no copies of this in store within 200km of my location!

The only option is shipping but this adds another $5-$7 onto every order of 2 discs (as you most likely will need to order titles in pairs closest to the same price in order to maximise the discount).

    • +6

This is the pain of JB BOGOF!

One store has a $40 movie and $20 movie you want, but a diff store has the other $40 & $20 movies.

    • Actually shipping to order those two titles in the same order from seperate store locations turns out to be $10.98!

    • +2

I read your comment and thought "challenge accepted". That was two hours and about a thousand items ago… and I got nothin' to show for it…

Either couldn't pair up or I've already got the blu-ray version and didn't want to double up on 4K.

    • Top Gun Maverick - in store locally, Top Gun (original) nearest store is 80km away… why wouldn't stores stock these together!

      • They may have, but just ordered small quantities and sold out of one.

  • +2

That Gladiator 2 steelbook still overpriced even with the BOGOF, an extra 20% off would be good to sweeten the deal.

    • +1

I’m interested if you’re splitting the purchase

      • +1

I will wait, I bet it will be $29.95 one day. Will get a couple of Imprint of Umbrella titles instead, but cheers for the offer.

    • +9

But Gladiator 2 is terrible and no one would pay money for that right? Right?

      • right
        Get Oblivion

  • +2

From memory, there was one year where on the last day an additional 20% off discount was available.

Unless there’s an urgent need to buy them tomorrow, I’d suggest waiting until the last day to place your orders just in case it sneaks through (and hey, if it doesn’t you’ve only lost a week).

    • +1

Supposedly someone from JB said that would never happen again the last time this deal was on.

  • +3

When will they hurry up and get Seinfeld UHD

    • +10

All these big companies - they write off everything

      • +5

You don't even know what a write off is!

  • -6

How about buy one bluray disc and get a free bluray player

I still got hundreds of DVDs.

    • you could one for free/close to from farketplace or scumtree?

      • They do come around a bit on marketplace. I have a DVD player that was given away that is great for listening to CDs in the garage

Blu ray players also come up free on marketplace, often listed as DVD players as a lot of people don't know the difference.

    • I still got hundreds of coasters.

      FTFY

  • +2

How's the quality of the The Lord Of The Rings Trilogy (Extended & Theatrical Editions)? Worth getting at this price?

    • +6

100%, if you have any level of home theatre system 4k bluray is the way. I rewatched this trilogy the most compare to the rest of my stacks.

    • +1

Definitely if you pair it with the Hobbit 4K’s. Then you get both for $99.

    • +1

It's a shame that OzBargain censors words because F&&K yeah, it's worth it. They're excellent.

Definitely watch the extended cuts, it's worth it

  • +2

When did movie steelbooks become $60 ?

    • +8

When nobody bought the $80 ones

      • they were usually $39. i guess i am not buying anymore 4K releases/physical media releases

        • they were usually $39.

Some are still sold at that price.

  • Thanks OP.

  • Back in my day you had to pay this much to rent a movie…

  • +1

Oh man, 2 Robotechs for the price of 1. Tempting

    • Exactly, I share your pain. I'm so tempted but $305 for Robotech box set is…..

      • +1

I've got the original DVD release still mostly unwatched lol

      • +1

        Why is anime so expensive?

  • +1

I honestly think folks a shipping locker (cheaper) or shipping delivery is the only way. Which is what I’ve done this year.

Every single JB store that I live around just finished minimizing their 4K aisles from a full aisle, to only half or a quarter of an aisle. There is basically now no chance of getting a great hall all from one store. Only 2 out of 14 I looked at were at one store.

Plus we got told last time it was on here there wouldn’t be a cross over of the 20%. I’m def not waiting for everything to go out of stock just for the chances of that happening.

    • +4

Given it is becoming increasingly impossible to find 2 in stock items at the same price point, I'm thinking JB need to revise the way the 50% off the second disc is calculated, so you can order more than 1 set at a time and the system pairs up the closest prices to give you the max discount. This will mean we don't have to place multiple orders, saving on shipping costs, JB will probably sell more stock and their staff won't be running around as much to fill more 2 disc orders separately.

      • +3

From a retailers perspective, there are 2 reasons you run a BOGO promo instead of a 50% discount
        1. Forces higher units per transaction (good for clearing stock)
        2. Some (most) people won’t buy two items with identical prices, so you end up giving less than 50% discount anyway
Sounds like it’s working exactly as intended.

        • Bet they loses and lot sales and goodwill. Waste 20 mins trying to find matching items at a store because their system doesn’t allow pickups at different stores. I gave up.

          • @Be careful: From the staff I spoke to the reduction has had a lot of negative feedback but yeah it won’t be changing back.

    • +1

I went into a store to pick up my order for 2 discs. They ended up having all 6 i wanted and while online it said they didnt have stock. It was also $2 cheaper than online. Worth having look if you're going to go pick it up.

      • Some online prices were increased by a few dollars before the sale commence.

  • +3

Currently got 5 orders from 4 stores to pick up from on the weekend.

    • +1

Based on my experience you have done well to find 4 pairs of discs in stock, but also crazy you need order and pick them up from different 4 stores.

  • Back to the future 4k out of print :( glad I have a copy.

    • +4

I have this sinking feeling that it won't be long until we are needing to order most of our 4k discs from the US. More and more films are not getting 4k releases here, and not just small ones. Films like the last Indiana Jones film did not get an AU 4k release.

      • I think that’s mainly Disney films, as any other major release recently I’ve been able to find on 4k

        • +2

Ahh yes, a company that would rather you pay them every month to have access to the film on Disney+ vs you paying once to actually own it forever!

        • Somehow I didn't get despicable me 4 or Adams family, fuming. It's $50-70 now to buy 4k imported

And TV series are $90-100 per season now that we're blocked from JB discounts, that's way too much

      • I was hoping to get Andor on blu ray for 4k, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 and Alien Romulus

        • I ordered Andor from overseas when it released - was worried Disney would only do a single print.
Guardians 3 released here, it was their final 4k release in Aus.

          • +1

@GSDan: Disney don’t release films/tv shows on physical media in Australia anymore.

            • +2

@Randolph Duke: Yep. Guardians 3 was their last one.

              • @GSDan: Can't find Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 4K on JB website.
                Prey 4K isnt there too

                • +1

@congo: Must have sold out then, I own Guardians and bought local

  • +1

My favourite sale of the year.

    • Boomers know best. IYKYK

    • +1

I think you'll find there is a large wave of Millennials starting to return to physical media and ownership…or those of us who never stopped.

Especially when 4K releases of our fave old movies are being released in better than original theater quality

      • Some but not a large wave.

  • +6

JB increased the price on some blu-rays.

  • +3

Express delivery by 17th of June? Am I tripping or is that just absurd?

    • Check to see if the item is available at other stores. If it is, it'll arrive well before that date.

If it's marked as being "not available in-store", that usually means it's on back-order (coming from the supplier), and you'll be lucky to get it by that date (if ever). I've never had great luck with backorders - wait for months then give up waiting and cancel it.

  • +3

Managed to get six out of eight I was looking at for c&c at my local store, should buy a lottery ticket based on the above comments. Good timely deal. Cheers op.

  • +1

The Godfather Trilogy 4K & The Sopranos Blu-ray Box Set for $135 delivered. I would call that a decent deal.

Sadly, no Breaking Bad Blue-ray. Must have sold out.

  • i think the J in JB hi-fi stands for jacked.

  • +1

i managed to snag the hobbit trilogy and the matrix trilogy (plus some nonsense '4th' movie included with the matrix) for $75 as both were in stock at my local. already had LOTR.
I wish it was the animatrix bundled rather than that joke of a movie

    • +1

LOL I actually did the exact same thing yesterday. I just wanted the hobbit trilogy but didn't know what to pair it with at $75. Its silly how they don't have the dark knight trilogy or john wick 1-4 in 1 box at JB..

  • +1

Made an account to warn you all to stay away from clicking the express button if you're deciding on delivery from JB. Trust me, Team Global Express are a nightmare and I had to cancel nearly $300 worth of orders. I shouldn't have been impatient and will visit some physical stores this weekend.

    • I haven't had issues with them in my very regional country town? (800km west of Adelaide).

Although I do need to go to the local contrsctors depot to collect, as they don't deliver to me… Even though I'm only 10 minutes out of town…

    • I found them OK. They just left it in the letterbox, but being semi-rural my letterbox is large enough for decent size parcels. Australia Post will only deliver what they can fit, they don't do door deliveries.

      • Mine was marked as needing signature, but they never even knocked on my front door. In any case, they ended up leaving SOME of the items at the local dry-cleaners, even though the girl on live chat said they would only be available for pickup at the depot MON to FRI. I ended up doing some juggling/returning to local JB and picked up some new items for my collection.

  • Does it end midnight tonight or midnight tomorrow?

    • +1

I believe the 28th so i'd say tomorrow night.

      • Cheers mate!

  • I missed this one, do they only do it once per year?

    • It's only once per year unfortunately. Though you might still be able to grab some good Blu-ray/4K Blu-ray deals mid next month, during Amazon's prime sales.
