I have an existing telstra service that is out of contract, and I want to retain the number. If I port out to Aldi and back to Telstra on this deal, so I retain the number, does anyone know if there is a minimum time period between ports being allowed?
The guy at JB said I had to wait 30 days to be able to port back into Telstra, which is news to me? I used to sell mobiles many years ago, and there was never a waiting period before you could port back into a carrier, but things may have changed. Can someone comfirm if this is accurate or not?
What network does aldi use? Just get an optus or Voda based sim to be on the safe side, I've heard about this 30d rule and they usually mention it.
So is the 30 day thing made up or real? The ACMA guideline on porting doesnt seem to mention anything about it, so could be artificially imposed by networks I suppose, but does seem odd to have such a restriction.
I was using Aldi as an example, but agree probably should port to one of the main competitor networks instead of one of the MVNOs that potentislly use the Telstra network and systems.
Would love to get someone associated to confirm the 30 day rule. The guys at JB didnt seme overly confident on any of the information they were providing.
Maybe ask JB again or check in all the other threads, it comes up a fair bit.
@G-rig: Circling back, the 30 day rule is only somehting that JB can choose to enforce if they want to or not, the rep I spoke at a another store said it wasnt something they enforced at their store and were happy to sell me the phone. I successfully ported out to another carrier and back to JB/Telstra with no issues.
@mjf: Yeah depends who you get I guess.
It's just easier having a non Telstra Sim to port in (they may not do the deal at all otherwise). The last time they wouldn't do it, the year before I had boost and it was fine so who knows. They still log into the Telstra system.
You can sign up a new number but less value off the price. Up to you either way.
Few scare mongering tactics like saying you have to pay back the full voucher if you cancel (which ofc you don't, as per the cis).
I decided to go ahead with this one, but I negotiated the price beforehand. Cost me $169 up-front and $766.66 exit fee ($935.66 total).
The guys I dealt with were very thorough, including explaining the $800 ETC, etc. I couldn't fault them tbh.
Scored a Google official case for $30 on Facebook Marketplace on the way home, too.
Wow - how did you get them to budge on price?
managed to get $50 off for the 512GB..just asked the gentleman if he can do a good deal for me. He said a free case then I said how about a better price…
Hi, can we use a screen protector for the internal screen? Any recommendations for screen Protectors and thin cases would be appreciated.
Thank you
Is it possible to return an unopened phone for a refund after going through this process?
A good way to get JB/Telstra to stop offering deals like this
I wonder if this becomes $0 now since there’s a 10% off perks code
Yeah, it should be. Which makes it even better. At this point I dont know if I should wait for Z Fold 7 or just jump on this one
I’ll jump on this tomorrow arvo, but I’ll try and ask the store early in the morning to confirm if it’s allowed
That would be awesome, bet its a store by store thing if it is though
How do we get the 10% off perks code?
Asked the store and they said can’t stack
Thanks for sharing, I'll try my local one and report back as well. Last day for negotiations, lesgoo!
I’ll try again later as Imnuts7 said Device+ isn’t the same as the device purchased with a plan. Will report back again later in the arvo
@Duece1995: No, only active service on my Telstra account is a Boost prepaid. This is my first time that Telstra denied my credit check
@BargainsGrabber: You must have cancelled a few plans lately. Happened with me a year ago, and had to wait for 6 months to loft the rejection.
@OZBsince2018: I had cancelled 2 in Feb this year, and then 5 last year. I guess I’m now in the rejection period. Will see you guys back next year lol
I was upgrading everyone’s phones in my family last year and then thought I could do it again this year for them to sell theirs from last year
Ask another store. I got it on my 2nd try. The first store i went read the fine print on the 10% perks discount it excludes JB Hi-Fi Device+ plan (or products purchased with plan). The 2nd one not sure, he asked the manager and he said should be fine.
I ended up getting 256gb with no upfront fee and I still get $25.5 GC back
I was planning to wait for Z fold7 or pixel fold 10, but for sub $800 i could live with older gen.
Would you please mind sharing the screenshot of receipt?
which store please?
I did the same. Bought the 256gb Google Pixel 9 fold pro for zero dollars plus a $25.50 gift card as they let me stack the perks email with 10% off. Great price. Essentially $2225 off.
Also if you are brave enough to risk it. You can just sign up to the deal, then once you are at the cashier just tell the cashier you want to use your JB perks code. The system will allow it unless there's human intervention
This worked. Thanks
I was also successful, but it's dependant on whether the store is across the T&Cs.
Make sure you scan the perks before they activate the gift cards.
Worked for me at JB Bourke St! The sales assistant was actually thrilled for me – what a gem!
@itsfree So you were the OzBarganer who was with the sales lady at around lunch time. The other rep was not honouring the 10% perks (after asking manager) but thankfully I overheard the 10% and then was allowed to proceed with the discount.
haha glad to be of indirect assistance!
This deal ends today… can I purchase an esim to port or will it be too late
Depends on the new carrier, i find that Telstra is really quick sometimes within 10 mins
thanks for replying quick. Can you use esims?
I'm guessing you can? Telstra does offer esims and P9PF does have esim capability
is this the best plan to get at jb? Going to get a plan but wondering if any of the other phone plans are near or on par wit this one in terms of the savings.
Completely free today with the perks 10% off
Thats not true. Perks voucher doesn’t stack with this deal.
It certainly did for me. 10% off
You were lucky then - great deal for you 👍🏻
@OZBsince2018: I just called the JB store before I went in. I said i got an email as a perks member with 10% off for phones. Rep checked the terms and said as long it's not an Apple device it would be fine.
@Duece1995: You were lucky because terms and conditions clearly state mobile devices on plans are excluded
@Duece1995: Definitely worth at this price.
But you will soon move on from this phone as its battery life (coupled with slow charging) is very poor. And google Apps optimisation isn’t yet as good as Samsung. I had it too but sold it after 2 months. Hope you like it though 👍🏻
@OZBsince2018: Yeah. I'm thinking of selling it. Might look at dropping it off to Mobile guru. Camera quality isn't the best for a flagship
I went to the store today and received a 10% refund on the two Pixel Folds I purchased last week. I also had them price-match the $2,000 LG OLED and successfully stacked the 20% and 10% discount codes, bringing the final price down to $1,260. I paid using gift cards purchased at a 10% discount, making the deal even better.
You sure you are missing anything?:P
That's a hack of a deal you got there.
Expired sadly on 28 May.
I saw in store they were planning to extend it until next week.
Yes. Rep did mention this tonight. Wasn't sure if the perks was still available though.
Extended for the JB mobile voucher but the Google pixel phone is back at RRP price: 256GB ($2697), 512GB ($2897), which doesn't made it a hot deal no more.
Ture, I planned to buy this weekend and I didn't see the offer end date. Missed the deal 😔.
Website says June 4th so the promo extended
Can also trade in a mobile for $500 off now apparently but I think they don't stack
edit: Item gone up to full price though so definitely not as good a deal
Thanks op. I was using an overheating, useless battery from a deal from 2021. The power button fell off somewhere recently. Appreciate those who contribute to ozbargain.
What case and screen protectors are you using who purchased this. Some poor reviews of options
I am using the spigen armour pro with spigen front screen protector. Costs a pretty penny but I'm very happy with the feel and look, seems excellent so far and has hinge protection. Can't talk to it's longevity, as it's only been a day, but I bought a cheap cover (that JB sell for $60, I paid far less) and a screen protector to tie me over and both were junk in comparison.
I got the OtterBox in store at the same time because I didn't want to risk it. Wish I hadn't, go for something that covers the spine when folded.
They had none in store when j got the phone
return it and get something else. JB is pretty expensive and limited choice for cases.
What did you end up going with?
I think there's $1500 voucher offered for S25 edge, stack with the free storage upgrade and it's ~$349 out of pocket, +$800 ETC so about $1149 for 512GB S25 Edge?
This deal has been extended till 4th June.
Its on the main page on JB Hifi again if you scroll through the offers, but RRP has gone up so not as sweet as the deal was before
Yup - just received their newsletter. The $2000 off still running but no more Red Hot Deal
But now you can get a $500 bonus coupon with a trade in, which brings it back down to the same as before.
And unless I'm mistaken, the coupon applies even without if you decide not to send anything in…
Yes, just saw they updated the deal and included $500 bonus coupon. So effectively $2500 off which means:
RRP $2197
Less $2000 Off
Less $500 bonus trade in credit
Plus $766 cancellation fee
Plus $99 first month upfront fee
Net Cost $1062
Good game to those who got in before price hikes. Was so puzzled on how it wasn't maths-ing.
Retail price for the pro fold in JBHIFI increased, as I can tell between ~22MAY to 1JUNE.
Retail was 2195$, now 2695$.
-cries-
There's is a bonus coupon for trade ins now that brings it back to the same level. I could be wrong, but I dont think the coupon is recovered if you neglect to send anything in, similar to the Samsung deals
Anyone bought this with the extra $500 trade in coupon that can confirm final price is same as before?
(i.e. $500 coupon stacks with $2000 coupon and $800 is still max cancellation fee)
FYI the phone price has dropped to $1997. Can claim the price drop difference that JB offers
Do we need to speak in store or online chat for the refund?
Both should work
Very easy process, got the Pixel 9 Pro Fold 512gb and a tempered glass screen protector from JB for $410 out of pocket - $10 Amex offer brings that down to $400
So total cost will be $800 + $99 $ 400 = $1299
Also, a year of Gemini Pro with 2tb storage which is valued at $395.88 if you use it (which i do)
Receipt looks fine for Salary Sacrifice if thats something you can do
