Would love to see the p9pxl on one of these deals soon
there was 2-3 weeks ago but now expired
I was after the 512 :(
They let me pay the difference for the 256 as the deal a few weeks ago was for the 128.
Phwoar, finally
Fyi
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold, Google's next foldable smartphone, is expected to launch in August 2025 and be available for purchase in September 2025. It's rumored to feature a square folding screen and a camera setup similar to its predecessor, with a 50MP main camera, a 10.5MP ultrawide, and a 10MP telephoto with 5x optical zoom. The device is also expected to have a Tensor G5 chipset and 16GB of RAM.
Yep, better wait for the preorder offer from JB for this. P9 CPU leaves much to be desired (see comment above from eecan).
Been using since December and it's pretty good, I do give it a run and can handle some extensive tasks.
For the photo editing, it will come down the programming of the app or the like as I see some bottlenecks in certain apps I use but using web based app it rolls with the punches.
Yea tensor is crap unfortunately
Hi all, just checking- if I cancel the plan, is it correct that I would only need to pay $766? Sorry, I'm new to this.
$766 to cover the "voucher", $195 for the phone and $99 for the first month. Hence $1,060 for the ozbargain way as stated.
Or $800 + $195, depends if you get the first $99 charged in the JB store
I'm guessing Facebook marketplace is about to be flooded with these in the next few weeks. I look foward to the inevitable "I was scammed" thread in the forums.
Scammers dont need a deal to not provide a phone
Been using mine since August last year (for $1600) and my main take away from it is that it is HEAVY! The size and proportions and even thickness is not that far off from the phones around it.
Reading ebooks is great on it and for me in particular playing some classic web browser games to be great. Productivity is a bit of a hard one because not all apps support multi-window (e.g. needing 2 google docs open at the same time - not all apps support that). Some apps don't like the unfolded layout at all but that would be the minority of apps, most apps won't take advantage of the larger screen real estate.
I do wish it had a pen support. I wish Pixel Experience had better multitasking software support like floating window, etc. but essentially it's a Pixel phone that can expand and do good side by side multitasking. It's great for getting things done, but for an actual productivity power user I don't think I'd get it. Nor would I get the Z Fold because the outer screen ratio would be too thin for me. I love that I can use this folded like a normal feeling phone.
Good to know!
Nor would I get the Z Fold because the outer screen ratio would be too thin for me.
Fair, but the Z Fold has best-in-class productivity and multitasking features though…
You're right, and its kinda painful to see so much potential on the Google side of the fence. There were so many times where I wanted floating window… I was thinking about jumping over to the Samsung side, but seeing that I don't actually do all that much on my phone (I just love shiny new things 😹) I might use this till it dies and find a mid-ranger/ex-flagship.
I will be keeping an eye on what the next few Folds look like and maybe I'll upgrade a bit sooner. I read that Google was finally working on something like DeX for Pixels - maybe that'll do the trick if they let us use it on the unfolded screen.
The outer screen is just important for me because I found out by using my Pixel Fold, I am using it folded 90% of the time. 10% is the odd time I'm reading on the train or showing someone a photo.
Ugh, you have made my decision harder. I have an OPPO Find N3 and have been largely happy with it – snappiest Android skin I have ever used and amazing cameras; but less fully-featured multitasking and foldable features than One UI (no flex mode??); much slower at fixing bugs compared to Samsung, but also much faster at introducing them. Samsung's devs are the best I have ever dealt with in terms of responsiveness and bug fix speed (yes, I'm the kinda guy who files bug reports – you're all welcome 😂).
So I was wanting to give this a try since I miss some of the Pixel niceties and polish (particularly the AI call features), but it sounds like a step backwards in many ways too. I ditched Samsung because their hardware has stagnated so much, and I do find One UI starts to slow down after a while, which has not been the case so much with ColorOS.
@itsfree: OPPO's foldables have been looking amazing! I wanted to get one of their flip ones before. I reckon ColorOS and Pixels have a similar toolbelt when it comes to multitasking … which is just split screen? No flex mode stuff on the Pixel either, say except for YouTube splitting the comments halfway (but I don't think that's something too special for foldables).
I had no idea Samsung had a line for bug reports like that!
I think for $1K it could be a good price to try it (but then I guess if the Fold7 comes out, with apparently some good changes to the overall device screen ratio, a bit wider like our Pixel and Find N, it'll be some opportunity cost happening there). I thought $1.6K was low enough for me to bite. Google's feature drops for Android and being able to taste the latest and greatest is always fun - but I think you get the specialisation of software for the hardware a bit later.
You've tempted me to be more keen for the Fold 7 release even though I do not want a foldable as my next phone 😹 I was gonna sell my Fold but maybe with this deal out now, the prices are gonna crash a bit more.
What is the cheaper way to pair another 2 sims to this plan and do Data Sharing?
https://www.jbhifi.com.au/pages/mobile-broadband-plans
JB mobile broadband plans is $19/m if you have another 2 dual sim phones. Your main number can be Amaysim PAYG plan if you don't have too many calls.
I don’t need the extra data per se but Telstra reception works a lot better for me.
Does anyone know how this works with Salary Sacrificing?
My employer allows me to salary sacrifice a phone, which I have done many times before, so I know the process.
Am I correct in thinking that the Invoice price of the phone is $2195
Then $2000 is subtracted as a voucher being used - on the invoice
Then $195 in cash/debit/credit
If that's correct, then when salary scarifying the device would be against the value of $2195 not $195?
I think it should be $2195 on the invoice.
My previous iPhone 16 was $1397 on the invoice, shown 'Online Gift Card $1397' & 'GST $127.00'
that is incorrect…
Invoice will show the full amount and it shows payment using gift voucher and cash.
Gift voucher is treated as cash as the payroll team/ATO wouldn't know whether the gift voucher was purchased with your own/you friend's cash or given by JB Hifi.
Source: I have been doing this many years even with laptops as well.
I was just instore asking the details on what the invoice would look like. Its a $2000 giftcard so I should be eligiable for the full 2195
Are you sure?
the invoice might show the full $2,195 and then voucher and cash payments, but the supplier invoice your employer uses will be for the net amount after the $2,000 voucher
that $195 is what your employer pays and what you salary sacrifice
the ato only cares about what the employer actually pays the retailer, not the rrp or how the discount was funded
@mirridon: You can salary sacrifice a phone as a reimbursement. Employer has no involvement with the retailer. FFS
@mirridon: Payroll and ATO look at the total purchase amount and also the GST component.
Even though only $195 was paid using your own cash, the GST component will still reflect the percentage of total amount of $2195.
My wife also recently did hers on the recent JB Hifi Iphone 16 Pro deal and I could see it on the invoice as well.
@meong: Oh okay interesting, thanks for you input I'll look into it more, I must be missing something.
Edit: I was having a brain fart moment. Yes, the voucher comes after you buy the phone so at point of sale the invoice is the full 2195. salary sacrifice will be based on that full amount. I had my wires crossed and read the original post incorrectly.
@meong: That's correct, you get a tax invoice on collection of the phone for the full amount.
You can apportion the amount used for work yourself in your tax return.
People saying can salary sacrifice, as your employer for a form or something.
Source: I have been doing this many years even with laptops as well.
Quick question: Did you have to prove that you're using the phone for 50%+ work purposes at tax time, or does it not matter?
Which employer pays the retailer in this scenario?
i dont think @mirridon knows how SS works
@meong: Oh okay - I thought the retailer is paid by your employer (or their salary packaging provider) on your behalf using your pre-tax salary?
@mirridon: for portable devices (laptop, phones, tablets) there are no ongoing cost involved so you pay first then submit invoice to your payroll (if SS is in-house) or the external SS provider.
for cars, yes, as there are ongoing costs which are managed by the SS provider (fuel, ev charging cost, tyres, scheduled maintenances, insurance, etc)
The Samsung Fold 7 is coming. I got the fold 5 and it totally a game changing for those getting these foldable.
Haven't really kept up but Fold 6 wasn't really anything over the 5, is that right ? Will the Fols 7 be worth it in your opinion ? Looking to move on from.my S22u. Get it on pre order ?
The Fold 7 will keep up with the s22u in the camera department bar zoom lens and would be a good worthwhile upgrade. The fold 6 is hardly an upgrade from the fold 5 unless you like boxy form factor.
still waiting for Pixel10 with the google CPU rolling out
Got the p9pxl 256gb from the recent jb deal for $1,012.6 … hoping for trade-in deals for the p10 - greater that of the p9pxl deal price xD - IF Tensor G5 performance is a true leap rather than an incremental one :/
I am on 8a now. The 9 trade in offer was miserable…hoping the same!
It will be incremental in processing power, but should be decent gains on heat and battery life; two areas where samsung exynos fab is always a letdown. Galaxy phones here would actually be a usable option if we got the snapdragon versions like America.
I believe the s25 series phones all have the s8 elite processor regardless of location - including here in Aus.
@serpserpserp: Looks like samsung's back on the menu, boys. Have they finally decided to can exynos for good?
I was just instore talking to a rep being very careful with my wording (i was specifically asking about the invoice structure for salary sacrifice) and the rep was explaining the offer.
The rep explained the voucher is normally $900 but if its used on a pixel its $2000
I mentioned that I tend to move plans every now and then and 24 months is a long time, so if I was to cancel do I owe Telstra $900 or $2000?
He said its $800 but he would check with his manager that overheard the whole convo.
APPARTENTLY its now changed and you would owe the entire $2000
Has anyone tried this offer? is it true?
Hahhaha. Nice story, why would you even ask if you dont trust whats written on paper?
Ask for the CIS to be printed and before you sign on it, you can see that the ETC remains at $800
Everything becomes final and legal once you sign the document. If you’re unhappy you can ask them to cancel the process
Thanks. I will look into that. I will go back at lunch and have a look (they are only across the road from my office). Just need to verify with my employer that a gift card wont mess up the salary sacrificing. Cause I might pick up the 512gb model and buy discounted JBHIFI vouchers through my work place benefits program aswell to cover the remaining $395
Don't have to talk anything, just sign up, grab the phone and leave the store. Period
For me to get the best deal possible, I needed to ask about the invoice structure as its highly relevant to salary sacrifice. Its worth an extra ~$600 for me. I should be able to get the 512gb for $600
you cannot do salary sacrifice if your employer supplied you with a work phone.
Just realized, its actually a great deal if you dont mind the new Pixel will released in 3 months or so. They only did $1450 off during pre-order and it was using more inflated RRP back then.
Yup - the fact that it’s on a “red hot deal” works well for us too
i have a feeling the new pixel fold is going to be mighty expensive given what it packs.
Paying the difference for the 512gb is a great deal also if you need/want it, interesting to see if they will come down any further in store like they did with the p9p. Not sure if it's $395 or the $200 between the list prices
Still waitin for a Samsung fold.
Just got the deal, I have a current Telstra connection but as long as you can port another number across it works without a hassle
Took 10-15 mins max to get it all sorted
I would think you can also sign-up for a new Telstra service no. to claim this deal as per the T&C:
- Available to port-in mobile services (excluding JB Upfront/Prepaid, The Good Guys Mobile & Broadband, Telstra & Boost) and new Telstra mobile service customers only
Did this while S25 pre-order but the stock was delayed so I cancelled the phone and got a 1300$ gift card back (mobile devices price) which was worth to me than the phone.
Was wondering if I can do the same with this :)
Greed has no limit
How does this work with porting? If you want to keep your number and cancel the telstra plan? Can someone tell me the step by step process? I currently have aldi plan. Cheers
Create a new plan with a different number and cancel that, don't bring your old number over if you want to cancel.
Thanks
Can you also just create by signing up new at JB? And then cancel that number they give you? Or better to get a cheap new sim, activate it then go to JB and port over, they cancel on telstra chat?
The latter is just the former but with extra steps.
New plan comes with new number or your old preferred number.
Better to save $ on a new cheap sim and also the headache of porting ie turnaround time between carriers
Anyone had any luck using this voucher on a Pixel 9 Pro XL (Above 512Gb)? I can see in the terms they are excluded, but I know on the previous deal some people had luck paying the difference for storage etc.?
Did you try?
Yep, no luck
But it costs $2400 in credit.
Let us know when the penny drops
Haha I'm presuming you're implying this is a way better deal than Apple due to the discount difference ($1.4k vs $2k)
How is battery life on this?
Tempting. I'd prefer the 9 Pro XL though…
Can anyone tell me if there is an invoice issued for the phone purchase and what is the amount show to claim for TRS for traveling? Thanks.
Yep i used trs
It will be full price $2195 ($199.55 GST back) for the 256GB and $2395 for the 512GB
My P8 still has 6 year support and this pushes me to upgrade…
I purchased the 512gb model.
For those that are interested, at the checkout they make a $2000 physical gift card, then swipe it through the payment terminal
The receipt shows payment as a $2000 "Online Gift Card" and an Eftpos payment of $395 (The 512gb is $2395)
There is no record of how the gift card was obtained. It all appears as a normal purchase with a large chunk paid by a giftcard
It was $766.59 cancellation fee for the mobile service and I assume also $99 for the first month, but unsure if any of that $99 will be refunded since I only had the service for 1 hour.
$395 Out of pocket for the phone
$766 cancellation fee
$99 for the first month (I assume this will not be refunded)
Total cost: $1260
Great deal - will head over to JB tomorrow to get a 512GB
Has anyone who has got the deal been able to get any extras thrown in like a case of mobile extra phone protection?
Can you use o e month then cancel
Yes
Has anyone downgraded their phone plan after getting the deal? I'm able to claim via work but capped so won't cover $99. Also read in previous deals that Telstra don't do discounts to the phone plan anymore?
I used pixel 9 pro fold for a couple of months and do not recommend it for:
- very poor battery life
- buggy apps and UI optimisation (compared to Samsung)
- very slow wireless charging if you mostly use that
- mediocre front display
- very heavy though can be used with one hand due to dimensions
Better get Pixel 9 Pro XL which is a much superior phone compared to this.
Thanks for the feedback, valid and important points to consider!
I had Z fold 6 for a while, and I can tell you Samsung Z fold 6 also have all those issues as well if compared to their S24 or S25 series. I think people are paying premium for Z fold or Pixel fold phones mainly for the Folding screen, but everything else are subpar to their own flagship .
S25 is the go, I was always a pixel fan but the hardware is better on Samsung and just loaded all the same google apps anyway.
Agree. I have both Pixel 9 Pro XL and S25 Ultra. And if I have to choose between these two - I will go with S25 Ultra. But that doesn’t mean PXLP isn’t a good phone. Its one of the best phone Google has made yet.
@OZBsince2018: Excluding gaming - do you notice a huge gap daily driving the p9pxl vs the s25ult - around the responsiveness of web browsing, video streaming, taking photos?
Can confirm I was able to get a new number with this deal (but couldn't get my Boost ported)
