    In other news today: https://www.wired.com/story/vpnsecure-canceled-all-lifetime-…

Jason, any chance you’re interested in selling your company?

    • +1

      Hi,

No, not a chance. This is a private company and we are only interested in growing.

      Regards,
      Jason.

      • Any chance I can trial the service first? I know your website says this is not possible but I only need 1 day to test the service. (not keen to provide CC details until confident with service)

Feel free to PM me if you can provide a signup link with trial.

        • Hi,

          Thank you for your message.

While we do not do trial, we do offer a 30 day money back guarantee.

You can purchase and if you are not happy, we will refund without any questions.

Hope this serves as an alternative to trial and your concerns.

          Thank you,
          Jason.

      • That's the story of every 'lifetime' hosting or VPN offer… Interested in growing, then disappears or cancels the plan(s) one way or another.

    USD?

    • +4

If it is USD it should be mentioned in the description as well as the AUD amount.

Looked it up on ABN lookup, it could be under a different company name but didn't see anything.

Seems like a good deal, anyone tested against NordVPN? Have been happy with that, works on Google TV and other devices although expiring soon.

      • Hi,

I appreciate you researching about it.

You can try our services if your plan with other VPN company is about to expire.

I'm sure we will serve as a good alternative.

        Thank you,
        Jason.

What is your policy on logs and customer data retention?

    • Yeah "private company" means nothing and they can be collecting everything

      • -1

I'm not sure you can assume that, have a look in the app store:

        Data shared
Data that may be shared with other companies or organisations
        .
        App info and performance
        Crash logs and Diagnostics
        No data collected
        .
The developer says that this app doesn't collect user data
        .
        Security practices
        Data is encrypted in transit
Your data is transferred over a secure connection
        .
        Data deletion
Developers can provide ways for you to remove data collected by this app. Learn more
        .
        Delete app account
You can submit a request to the developer to delete your account and associated data for this app

Not saying to get it but perhaps ask or look it up.

        • +1

Yeah I'm sure the company saying that is worth much. That's why there's plenty of independent VPN audits and investigations. It's the most basic thing to understand when it comes to VPN.

          • @marshmall0w2: Yes I'd still go with a familiar/big name provider but it may be alright for some people.

I'm sure companies can get banned from the app stores if they don't adhere to the proper rules and procedures.

            • +3

@G-rig: VPN companies don't need to track you through the app itself using ads or trackers, but anything backend service-wise can.

"You're right to ask this—let's break it down clearly:

              1. "Doesn't store data on the App Store"

When a developer says their app doesn't store data "on the App Store," what they typically mean is:

The App Store itself (Apple or Google) doesn't host or process user data from the app.

It's just a distribution platform. Apple/Google may collect some metadata (e.g., download stats, crash reports) but not the app's user data unless integrated explicitly (like via Apple iCloud or Google Play Services).

              1. Can developers store data on their own backends?

Absolutely, yes. Apps can (and often do) send data from your device to the developer's own servers, including:

              Traffic data (IP, usage patterns)

              User activity (in-app actions)

Personally identifiable information (PII), if collected with or without consent

This happens outside the App Store's ecosystem and is governed by:

              The app’s Privacy Policy

Mobile OS-level permissions (though often quite broad)

Any relevant data protection regulations (GDPR, CCPA, etc.)

              1. Could this be "outside the scope" of the app's stated purpose?

Yes. Some developers collect more data than is necessary to deliver the app’s core function—for:

              Analytics

              Advertising

              Behavioral tracking

              Reselling data (in shady cases)

              TL;DR:

Even if the app isn't "storing data on the App Store," the developer can and often does store data on their own servers. Always check their privacy policy and be wary if they’re vague about what data is collected and how it's used."

              • @marshmall0w2: Great explanation, you certainly don't want information stored if the whole point of using a VPN is for anonymity etc.

Maybe the OP can chime in to confirm.

From a review towards the end of 2024.

      Outdated security certificate on Windows
      Significant speed reductions in testing
      No third-party audit
      No support for WireGuard protocol
      Few payment options

      • Hi,

        Thank you for your message.

We are in the process of getting our reviews updated as our services have improved.

        Thank you,
        Jason.

      Hi Mixhael,

      Thank you for your message.

We have a no-log policy and we do not collect or retain customers' data.

      Thank you,
      Jason.

Lifetime of the company =/= lifetime of the customer.

  • Never trust a lifetime subscription.

    • It's only $23.99.. as long as you get a few years out of it (but hopefully at least 8-10).

I usually wait for a 100% off cashback for NordVPN but you need a new signup.
I can't imagine many people paying A$160-194 for 2y full price.

      • as long as you get a few years out of it

Yeah, any sensibility would realise an unlimited "lifetime" doesn't mean any lifetime. True for the most protected of customs, especially true for simple commercial transactions like a $24 VPN. A few years would be a reasonable expectation, anything more is a bonus.

  • +1

It's $23.99 off, bringing the total down from $59.99 to $36

It's so irritating when companies can't even be bothered explaining their offers properly. On the site's page, the offer is no more informative than "Get lifetime access to OysterVPN with a one-time payment + Free Bonus Cloud Storage". If you go to purchase then it bothers to say it's 1TB of storage. Nowhere does it explain how the storage works… clearly it's just an after-thought whacked on for promotional bling.
