$300 Cashback (Was $0) on Optus Postpaid Mobile (Device Data SIM Plan) @ ShopBack

47

Shopback's Page for Optus now shows Cashback as $300 for Postpaid Mobile (Device Data SIM Plan).

  • Upsized Cashback: $300
  • Standard Cashback: $0

While Shopback sometimes does not have a direct mapping to the actual product/service on the Merchant's website, I am assuming this maps to:
https://www.optus.com.au/broadband-nbn/mobile-broadband/mode…

Also noted in Exclusions:

  • You won't get Cashback on: Tablet +Data SIM

So, the Cashback applies only for "Device" (which I'd assume would be the Portable Modems)
Best to confirm before making a purchase as to what Postpaid Mobile (Device Data SIM Plan) exactly maps to. If anyone has a confirmation, I will update this deal description.

after so many complaints with the last Optus boosted cashback, I'm not sure I'd trust this. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/898966

100% , am one of them whose cashback didn't get tracked and it's not at all great dealing with shopback even though once the screenshots are provided .

Don't use the app as most of us from previous deal were using the app.

Shopback is useless when the cashback is rejected. They only tell you that the subject is the selling company, and they can't do anything. But TopCashBack did give me the cashback even after optus changed the T&C
I got my cashback from this deal

Do not trust Optus/Shopback, your cashback won't get tracked and you have to lodge review, after lodging review they will say 120 days validation time, at the end they will just reject your cashback.

Neg, because of previously rejected cashback for no reason.

Nah Optus rejected my cashback last time round, will never touch Optus anymore.

Same here, don’t trust Optus, they has new customers sign up with their network but don’t wanna rewards them. What a scam.

With all the shopback rejections, i have been booking hire cars for a long time and have rarely received cashback from Cashrewards and shopback. Then one day, i couldn’t download the receipt. Turns out, every time I collect a car, avis/budget staff were cancelling my booking to create a new booking at their end and charging me more for the booking but at the same time, no cashback would track. I wonder if optus does something dodgy like that too to avoid paying money

    • +1

I hope you complained to Avis or Budget head office

      • I did complain about the costs as every time I would book for a month, they would quote me $1100 and then when they would close the contract, it was $1286. They finally adjusted the future costs for the bookings. Cashback, i doubt i would go anywhere with that and the promos are gone now anyways

    • It is a day robbery

If the cashback is over $20, I don’t trust it anymore, unless it’s for a gift card purchase.

    • +3

I'm the same, the risk is now not worth it with most of these cashback services, they're no longer reliable.

  • +2

You usually get your cashback but have to spend a lot of time complaining and threatening them to get their job done

Don’t trust this. My $350 cashback from a similar offer last time didn’t track and I’m stuck waiting & hoping ShopBack @ Optus don’t rip me off.

I got screenshots and filmed myself making the purchase.

I’m going to the TIO or small claims court if it’s not paid, because it’d be flagrant false advertising and deception. Ask yourself if it’s worth the headaches and document every step of the purchase if it is.

    • I don't think the TIO will be able to help with the Shopback portion as Optus would just push the liability onto them (as SB pays you, not Optus)

      • +1

Or… Optus are advertising on a platform (ShopBack). I’m hoping I don’t need to test it, but will if needs must; one way or another it’d be false advertising.

    • +3

The dedication to film yourself making a purchase. I sincerely hope you get the money as you have gone the extra mile

  • Edit: mu5001 does support mmwave 258 too it seems, only like 3.4Gbps though. Sonimm H700 5G still the OG, but $519.

If you're just after the modem, It's maybe worth it.

    Minimum cost is $434.88 + $40 ($20*2 months to meet 60 days minimum) plan fees = $474.88
    $474.88 - $300 CB = $174.98

That's if they honor their terms of only needing 60 days and you cancel right on time.

The M6 isn't worth looking at even, still comes to ~$400. Just get a H700 for $519 outright and have a much better device (up to ~5Gbps via USB-C if you're right next to an n258 cell, has theoretical maximum of 10Gbps but that's unrealistic + the USB-C port is only 5Gbps)

    tl;dr:
$174.98 for MU5001 best case scenario. Supports n258, but ~1Gbps realistic speeds; phone likely just as fast w/out n258.
~$400 for M6, trash modem. Better off with Sonim H700 for $519 from Telstra.

If you're intending to travel overseas, don't go with Optus. You won't receive SMS and will get locked out your bank accs T.T

  • May not be able to get the cashback. Be aware.

  • Last NBN deal mine didn’t track. I was lucky to have withdrawn the order in time.
