honestly i dont even know who to support anymore.

thought id support proper taxis - get stooged, twice.
thought id use uber - get stooged twice too.

    • easier to own a private driver

Woah man. It's not like the good old days. Slavery is not cool now. We can't own people anymore.

  • Are taxis cheaper than Uber (except Uber Pool) these days?

    • +4

Not really, thats wy the $10 off is only good if you're going a short distance.

However given all the train delays in Sydney taxis dont do surge pricing

      • Ok thanks.

      • That's not exactly true. Most taxi drivers do increase the price to take advantage of a situation. Every time I've stopped and asked a taxi driver for a price during delays, concerts and other events in the city, they've all given me ridiculously high prices.

They should always use the meter. It's illegal for them not to. If they want to negotiate take down the cab details and report them.

          • @r33tom: Took me about four months of chasing to get a refund and the majority of that time was after I’d reported it to NSW Point to Point

    • Afaik taxis and uber both follow the same government pricing guidelines?

      • Oh didn’t know such a policy exists

    • I use Didi, Uber and taxis with meter only. Didi can often be cheaper than the other two but not always.

ChatGPT says that the Rydo and 13Taxi apps provide a fixed prepaid taxi ride. Is this true?

The last 2 taxi trips I've done the driver has added mysterious extras at the end. Uber cars have become no better than taxis

    • +1

agreed, the taxi industry needs intervention ASAP

Too many rogue "drivers" just charging whatever the f they think they can get away with

People wanted deregulation. People got deregulation.
        Wild West now. Enjoy.

        • Deregulation but with limits. For eg. the Uber app shows how much you will be charged for first before the ride.

  • Where exactly counts as Sydney city?

    • Loaded question. Depends who you ask.

  • +6

Would rather pay $10 to avoid having to use a cab, altogether

  • I hope taxi operators can up their game because once they are gone, we'll be at Uber's mercy

  • There are so many scammer Taxis out there now. Havent used them for years after getting scammed one to many times.

DIDI is the best value now

Any Uber drivers here care to chime in?

  • How come Uber can't take my 6 years old with no car seat that basically means no uber rides, but old dodgy 3x more expensive 800k mileage 113cabs Camry with no car seat can? No such a thing in QLD

  • I would never catch a Taxi in Australia again because you will almost likely end up paying a ridiculous high price for the trip, either because of jacked up price by driver, added up "extra fees", dodgy meter. You will more likely driven by a unprofessional driver with terrible and unsafe driving attitude, bad behaviour and customer service. The high fare trip would be more likely in a old, dirty, smelly car (and driver). Why pay money for this type of service?
