Why
Ok
"Google copying OneUI should make Pixel better in you eyes, no? I can't stand ONe UI, doble contacts, calendar, dialling app, etc. drives me nuts
@radissimo: While I agree that Google's UI is more consistent, I don't have any double apps on my phone. S25 Ultra on OneUI 7. Of course, you can download the google versions if you prefer, but I actually really like the Samsung Calendar widgets, for example.
Agreed. I went from an Xperia > Samsung > Motorola and back to Samsung now. The extra features and slickness are great. One UI 7 needs some backend work though.
Same. ONEUI with Microsoft Launcher is much better on Samsung than on Google. Plus Samsung have more in built features than Google.
Using Pixel 9 pro fold right now was using flip5 prior. This can be fixed with a launcher?
As I understand it a good proportion of pixel users buy their phones because of the clean android ui. It's kind of google's thing.
You mean stock android?
Yes. I never used pixel, but feels more better than one ui
Have you tried AOSP lately. It's not great.
Correction: PixelUI
I think it's actually called material design and on the latest android 16 it's material design 3
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think that OneUI is convoluted, complex and slow when compared to Stock Pixel experience.
It's not stock Android, it's NEVER been stock, I don't think many people know this.
Its called "PixelUI"
Call it whatever name you want, it doesn't change the fact that it's the closest mainstream UI to stock Android that there is.
@GTR12: You are right In saying it's not stock but that's the lie people have told forever so people think it's stock. You don't have to call them a fanboy
@GTR12: I've owned a few Pixels dating back to the Nexus, but I wouldn't call myself a fanboy. And an iPhone will most likely be my next phone.
ASOP is boring without custom skins/features anyway.
Well, "stock" would be AOSP with PixelUI being pretty much a clone.
Google develops both, so, one could either "stock Android"
Vanilla vs bloated. Odd choice.
Pixel's UI is magnitudes better than OneUI. C'mon now… OneUI is the sole reason I don't buy Samsung phones anymore.
Fair enough, and it's why I gifted my Pixel 6 after 2months and went back to Samsung.
Samsung's UI is way better and throw in Good Lock to really customise it how you want.
As to people insisting Pixel runs stock Android ? I'm not sure they understand that Pixels UI is on top of "stock android".
That aside, the good thing is there is choice
Well pixels UI is a bit old looking but they are updating it in the next update so imo its definitely better than Samsung UI now.
So, what does "Pixels UI" run on top of then?
To each their own, OneUI has a floating windows feature while Pixel UI does not. I use it pretty regularly and the split screen is much more awkward to use. Sole reason why I got an S23 over a Pixel phone.
Pixels have this baked into the OS. Even sending the resizable windows to an external USB display. All baked in.
Developer options, enable freeform windows, enable free-form sizecompat.
@BradH13: It wasn't as intuitive as the floating windows on Samsung/Xiaomi phones from my experience, maybe it's better now.
Can you use the freeform windows over other apps?
pixel's software is awesome but oneui is terrible.
However, the chipset of pixel is horrible.
Decent replacement for an old S21 FE with diminished battery, and screen back peeling off?
Pixel phones prior to the 9 haven't been very well regarded for battery life. Software is great though.
Personally, I wouldn't go from a 2022 phone to a 2022 phone, don't see much point.
Is this a curved display or not
Curved. Need to go P8 for flush…
will it be locked to floptus?
No it won't
Flagship phones are never locked to a carrier.
Android updates end this October for the Pixel 7 Pro (Security updates till 2027)
then graphene OS is the way
First I've heard of Graphene. Trying to understand how Play service works, and wondering if I should be wishing I could install it on my increasingly slow S21 FE (hoping a factory reset might be a good start).
Play store and Google services works inside a sandboxed part of the os. This is so you can still use Google services and apps that rely on Google services without it being on your whole phone collecting data. I haven't actually used it though so that's just from what I have heard. I plan on switching in the near future.
Also unfortunately grapheneos is only supported on pixel devices as they are the most secure android devices and have good update speed and 7 years of updates.
Samsung is the absolute worst for using any custom roms as Samsung services break and it breaks an efuse in the phone so if you want to switch back to the original Samsung os again Samsung services won't work properly for example Samsung pay and Samsung fit ect. Not a big deal. I think you also get a warning message on boot.
Good point.
Would end up with grapheneosLineageOS - it's brilliant. Google Pay / Myki is the only sticking point
It is possible to get it working with Magisk modules like Tricky Store with a leaked keybox. But I wouldn't bank on it being a daily with that. Nothing more annoying than getting to the counter and realising Play Integrity has tripped again
Pretty rare to see anyone keep using same phone more than 5 years - either on iOS or Android.
Comment unpublished as it has 5 years of software support, not 2.
This was extended to 2027 for Android updates also late last year.

nice. my plan is up for my P7Pro in October, and I had always intended to update it then, but coming closer now I think its still a perfectly decent phone, so I think I'm going to stick with it for a while and save some money
$200 off if you put it on a 24 month plan.
I might hang in there for a Pixel 8 Pro deal instead.
Is it qualified for cash back?
There’s none that just pays for device only
What I don't understand is how Google can fumble Pixel software so badly given they make Android 🤦♀️
It is like how Microsoft made windows phones, though I have still been using Windows phone.
From a former Pixel 7 Pro owner (have owned 6, 7, 8), although this was an improvement on the absolutely shithouse modem that the Pixel 6 Pro had in it, I still had connectivity issues (dropouts, wouldn't reconnect etc) in the metro area. It wasn't until I got the 8 that these stopped.
Thoughts on the camera? Normal day light shots. Not night time or 4k videos.
Brilliant. Had one and took it on the South Coast Track in SW Tassie - stunning shots & video
I have both the 9pro recently upgrading from the pro. The 7 pro in normal daylight is pretty much exactly the same.
Heard that the Pixel 7 Pro had video flickering issues. Is this true/common?
I have never had this issue on mine in two years of use. May depend on the quality you record in. Most of mine was 1080p and then selecting 4k occasionally.
Mine had a hardware defect relating to the screen that showed itself in the first week. My second handset has been fine for nearly 2 years
OK if you need a cheap phone, but if you're hanging onto it with no SD card slot, 256GB storage should be minimum.
Hrm, I wouldn't call a $500 is a cheap phone, especially a 3yr refurbished one.
Yep
Got this phone right now and do not recommend it to anyone. Mobile data drops outs when going between cell towers and doesn't reconnect itself without turning airplane mode on and off (common problem with the device). Bluetooth is slow and won't auto connect half the time. My old Samsung s21 was flawless.
Sounds like a warranty issue
Nope. Modem issue with the crap Exynos chipset (yes it says Tensor on the box, but the source code says Exynos)
It's better with the 9 (I'm on the 9 Pro XL now) but still not great
I've had mine for a couple of years and none of this has ever happened to me 🤷 YMMV
Same. And I'm a SIM slut, so have tried all the networks across the Sydney CBD all the way to western Sydney.
I used to have this issue lots on vodafail in metro Vic particularly from home (not while traveling on train/overseas etc). Turn off wifi calling and select 4g rather than roaming onto non existent or flakey 5g. Not everyone will want to do this as it should handle 5g fine but certainly helped in my case.
I don't have any of the issues you have described. You should contact Pixel to fix it under the warranty.
Had a Pixel 7 Pro since a couple days after launch and never seen any of these issues.
Never had this problem. Adelaide metro. Aldi.
Great price!
Better to wait for another Pixel 9 pro at $699 deal
Might have to wait a year or so!
The Pixel 9 Pro is not the successor to the Pixel 7 Pro as it is significantly smaller. The 6/7/8 Pro's equivalent is now the 9 Pro XL.
That set the benchmark for me thus making this deal unappealing.
recent upgraded from 7 to 9, as 7 was broken, but i didn't see much improvement, and i feel 7 display is better than 9?
Can you clarify which two devices you're talking about?
- Pixel 7
- Pixel 7 Pro
- Pixel 7a
- Pixel 9
- Pixel 9 Pro
- Pixel 9 Pro XL
- Pixel 9a
Have a Pixel 7 Pro, haven't had any issues with it from an OS or hardware perspective. Not a heavy social/media user but noticed after last OS update the battery is draining faster than normal. Probably opt for 256GB as it fills quickly if you're taking 4k video and not moving/deleting it off the device
That's the same across most pixel devices anyway. It's a known issue since the April update.
If you're having battery issues, might want to consider disabling or uninstalling AI Core, Android System Intelligence (might affect the weather app) and Private Compute Services
I'm not sure if I read that tip on here or Reddit.
I don't think those apps can be uninstalled.
i bought this for 400 2nd hand, great price. good phone. great camera, 12gb ram, the google updates. if your budget is 500 cant go too far wrong.
How's battery life..
yeah fine i took it off charge between 8 and 9 this morning, done light browsing and a few phone calls today at it is at 66% ay 8 pm.
If I use it constantly, it'll last 12 hours.
Can i get google camera running on my samsung fold without rooting. I just want to take spherical shape of picture photo. As far as i know only google camera has this feature.
thanks i know ozb is good but this is such an amazing community.
Willjb price match this?
