Bought 5. Thanks OP
Excuse my massive ignorance.
Can you use this as a guy to cut a long piece of wood long ways?
In a straight line? That's called ripping. You could but would be very inefficient.
Can you use this as a guy
You can even use this as a girl.
Don't let the blue paint fool you.Can I use it as a GUIDE though?
How long is a piece of
stringwood?
In theory, you can… it won't be easy
You'd be much better off with a Table Saw
Or a circular saw with a brought or home made trackOK thankyou. I need a table saw
You can cut chairs with them too.
If you're not a tradesman, using a table saw can be too dangerous, use a circular saw instead.
@jimojr: Not a tradie, still have thumbs and fingers intact. You just need common safety skills, don't be scared of the tool, just respect it.
@justemptyvitamins: Have you ever had a piece kick back while cutting? That’s what’s stopping me from using a table saw. I’m a boilermaker, I do have safety skills.
@jimojr: There are ways to mitigate it though. A good riving knife, blade guard with anti kickback pawls, make sure your fence is adjusted correctly. Depending on what you're cutting some people will adjust the fence at the back to be .5-1mm farther out to help prevent binding, use feather boards and push sticks, don't force the wood, and yeah.. never stand behind the piece going through.
Steve Ramsey taught me when I first started with table saws to visualise every cut before you make it, that still sticks with me today. I'm more scared of the router than the table saw lol
@jimojr: I have when I had a saw where the riving knife was taller than the blade so had to take it off for non through cuts. Got lazy and kept it off, terrible idea. I was lucky though, nothing too big came back at me!
@justemptyvitamins: I might be safe to assume that keeping tingers away from blade is common safety knowldge, but knowledge about kick back and avoiding it or other issues could hardly be considered common.
@therealfattony: Fair enough, but I think if people are looking at getting a table saw, they're pretty likely so have some prior knowledge and a table saw is not the first thing they use jumping into woodworking.
@jimojr: I've used a table saw just fine for 20 years so this seems like an oddly posturing warning. Just use safety protocols and you will be fine.
A $200 table saw is good value . Just be super careful -
don't let your fingers get near the blade. ( use sticks to push and hold down.
If you a ripping a length of timber, don't stand directly behind the piece in case it grabs and kicks back.
Get good ear muffs , and a dust mask is a good idea.
A decent size table saw for long rips can take up a lot of space and be expensive. You can get a lot of the functionality from a circular saw and some long, straight piece of scrap wood like an old desktop you have lying around. You can also buy MDF though you lose some of the savings that way.
@Subada: I built a massive outfeed table for my job site table saw. Works great.
It depends what he wants. If he’s just ripping long bits off wood, then yeah, just use a circular saw. I’d he wants more versatility (like cutting dados, box joints, etc) get the table saw.
If you don't know you need a table saw you really need to be carful and watch several tutorials on how to use one safely.
They are one of the more common tools to remove ones fingers with.
This is the sort of thing that happens: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7sRrC2Jpp4
Even to pros when they get complacent.
In true OzB style I DIY'd a small router table (only an Ozito brand router no less lol) from a old desk drawer :P
Photos and instructions?
Heaps of diy examples on YouTube
links?
Does this include the router lift? Doesn't look it but the last picture in the listing seems to have it there.
I would also love to know.
Pretty sure that the lift in the last picture is part of the router not the table. It looks to be a generic version of a triton dual mode router.
agree, likely the plunge base come with router. Kreg precision router lift cost ($599) much more than the whole router table
How do you find it?
For that price, almost certainly it doesn't
any recs on a really great router table?
Too broad a question. What's your purpose etc
I'm an amateur woodworker, who likes experimenting (esp with hardwoods). don't know if that helps
If thats the case, id just stick with a trim router and clamped bits to your bench until you get a better idea, dont want to waste your money!
Great deal. I wonder why it's gone down so much. Carbatec has always charged like a wounded bull but 100 odd off the bunnings rrp for no reason is strange! I've had an eye out for a while and built my own but sometimes it's just nice to have nice things that will work out of the box, and kreg is usually just that!
Looks like the party's over :(
Guess I'll go back to my old plan of making my own router table.Still shows the same price for me. Can you not check out?
Yep, I bought one about a minute ago
Weird, it does have the title price now, but it was definitely saying $479 before.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯Figured it out it out - it still has the full price if you try and order it to Pakenham (3810). Don't know what we did down here to anger the bargain gods, but there we are.
If you change the store to East Pakenham or Narre Warren, the price becomes $262.50.
Ring them up and put it through as a special order through the store. Then Roberts your fathers brother.
Yeah, I just ordered to East Pakenham instead, no stress — wasn't expecting it to be an issue for a single store though.
Just got one…
Wonder if this will fit: https://www.bunnings.com.au/dewalt-18v-xr-12mm-plunge-router…
This is much nicer than the piece of MDF i have put a hole in and bolted my router too.. and much less sketchy!
