Hi OzBargainers 👋

I have developed an iOS app that calculates the dollar value of Everyday Rewards, Flybuys and frequent flyer points deals. No more getting out the spreadsheet or wondering if a booster offer is worth it - the app crunches the numbers for you so you can see if it's a good deal:

Question What Points Buddy Does Free/Premium Feature
“Is 1,000 pts on $60 actually good?” Discount Calculator → “That’s $5.30 back, 8.8% off.” Free
“Is (A) 1000 points on $50 better or (B) 1500 points on $70 better?” Deal Comparer → Tells you (B) is better because you earn 11.2 points per dollar compared to 10.5 with (A). Free
“Which fuel docket + points deal is the best value?” Petrol Comparer → Tells you effective % discount and dollar value of points earned. Premium (3 month free trial)
“If I pay with Amex, are the points worth the surcharge?” Optimal Pay → Tells you “Tap Amex, points value is more than surcharge” or “Use EFTPOS”. Premium (3 month free trial)

The app takes into account whether you convert your points to frequent flyer points or redeem them directly for groceries, and also the value of frequent flyer points earned on your credit card if any.

I know that OzBargainers love all things Everyday Rewards, Flybuys and frequent flyer points, so I created a deal especially for OzBargain. Normally the free trial of the premium features (at this stage, the Petrol Comparer and Optimal Pay, and ad-free, but many more coming in the future) is only for 2 weeks, but OzBargainers get 3 months free 😊.

🎁 Deal Summary

  • The app and basic features are free, but the premium features subscription costs $0.99 per month with a standard 2 week free trial
  • OzBargainers get a 3 month free trial of the premium features!
  • 1,000 codes available or until 30 June 2025, whichever comes first (when the codes run out, then it's 2 weeks free trial as usual)
  • Cancel anytime in Settings > Subscriptions in the App Store within 3 months if you're not enjoying the app
  • iOS only (Android coming in the future)

✅ How to Claim

  • Click the "Go to Deal" button above on your iPhone
  • Tap Redeem Offer
  • Confirm the 3 month free trial — one redemption per Apple ID
  • After 90 days, the subscription auto-renews at $0.99/month unless cancelled.

Please let me know if you have any feedback, feature ideas or bug reports! I want to make this app as useful as possible.

Hope it helps you get more out of your points deals!

  • How far away is the Android version?

I can’t say for sure, but it’s something that’s important to me! I know that lots of people out there use Androids but I had to choose one platform to start on. I want to get this on to Android ASAP but I don’t want to make promises to you I can’t keep. I’m sorry I can’t provide you with a concrete response.

  • Just downloaded on my iPhone but app not launching when I click on it.

Interesting concept, this app is essentially a AI driven right?

    • I’m sorry to hear that - what iOS version are you using? I’ll do my best to help you get it on your phone.

The app does calculations based on the numbers that you enter, and displays the information to you so that you can make an informed decision about your points deals.

Very poor deal. Also the app is very confusing. Couldn't figure out how to redeem 3-months free.

    • Sorry to hear that bargainbuyer11. Did you click “Go to Deal” on your phone? It should have taken you to a page in the App Store for you to redeem the 3 months free.

Thanks for your feedback about the app being confusing. What did you find confusing? I want it to be as easy to use as possible.

  • can i cancel now and use it for 3 months?

who uses a spreadsheet and count points like this?

  • Yes, certainly! I understand that the way iOS subscriptions work is that if you cancel you can keep using it until the period ends.

As to who uses spreadsheets for points, there are certain types of people who love to calculate this stuff. I might be one of them… which led to me developing this app.

No worries if you don’t find it useful! Thank you for trying it. If you have any suggestions about how I can improve it, please let me know.

maybe not charge a monthly fee, or $0.99 per year subscription?

      • -1

Thanks for your suggestion. The app itself is free, and the base features (discount calculator and deal comparer) are free. Apps take time and money to develop, which is why there is an optional paid subscription so that we can add new features and functionality so that it can be even better and provide more value. You are more than welcome to use the free version without paying for a subscription!

The free trial is there so that you can decide whether you get value from the premium features. If you don’t, feel free to cancel the subscription then you don’t need to pay a cent :)

  • you need to elaborate on what basic features are free and what premium gets you to be good enough to sign up for

maybe a quick video link about the app and how it works would be better as people are getting confused

Thank you sntc - that's a great point. I'll edit the post to reflect that.

I also agree with you about the videos. I'm working on that and will get that out ASAP.

  • What are people paying for here lol? It sounds like you're just trying to monetise a calculator.

    • From a certain perspective, you're right on the money (pun intended). This is, at the end of the day, a pre-built calculator with a UI.

However, what people are paying for is the ease of having it done for them. That is, they don't need to think about what the equations are, they don't need to open their spreadsheets (if they have any), and they don't need to look up any of the conversion values (for example, credit card earn rates, conversion from one points reward program to the next, value of points as they redeem them). They get the convenience of an app they always have in their pocket on their phone. So people are paying for the convenience.

And even then, they don't have to pay. The basic features of the app are free. So you can calculate discounts and compare deals, all day long, for free.
