nbn 100/20 $75/Month for 6 Months for New Customers ($85/Month Ongoing) @ Buddy Telco (Aussie Broadband)

260
EOFY10

For those that prefer Buddy Telco (Aussie BB) and don't want to worry about a 30-day notice period that other providers ask for.

Buddy Telco is using the Aussie BB network to provide nbn.

IPv4 with CG-NAT and a static IPv6 /48 block.

CG-NAT works fine for most users. CG-NAT can break remote access to some home security cameras, some home automation products, Plex server, NAS, servers or if you want to host online P2P games. If your home security cameras and automation products use a cloud server you will not be affected by CG-NAT.

Static IP for IPv4 can be added for an extra $5/month and this turns off CG-NAT. You can do this from the Buddy Telco portal.

Buddy Telco are using a chatbot and live chat support. There is no call centre.

Our Perth-based live chat team is available Monday to Friday, 12pm–8pm (AEDT). If you need help outside of these hours, our customer service chatbot offers a range of self-serve options.

An existing customer is defined as an individual who is the legal owner of an active service with Buddy Telco at the time the offer is applied.

A ‘new customer’ is defined as an individual who has not had an active broadband service with Buddy Telco in the last six months or hasn’t been an authorised contact, residing at the same address as the primary contact, on an active broadband service with Buddy Telco in the last six months.

Does Buddy Telco have a cancellation fee or notice period?

No - Buddy Telco does not charge any cancellation fees nor require any minimum notice period to close your service. While we would be sad to see you go, we understand that life happens and we want to make the process of closing your service as simple as the rest of the Buddy Telco experience. If you cancel your service mid-cycle, we will only charge you for the days you are connected. You can cancel your service in the Buddy Telco app.

  • Are you meaning ABB have a 30 day notice period? I don't think they do?
    https://www.aussiebroadband.com.au/help-centre/accounts-and-…

    • +3

No, I was referring to Superloop, Exetel and TPG that ask for a 30-day notice period.

Aussie BB don't have a notice period.

      • Yeah didn't think ABB had a notice period. Just found your wording a little confusing as I read it as ABB have one but Buddy don't. Prob just me though.

        • +1

          I've updated the post. Thanks.

    • no Opticomm support.

  • Check out amaysim nbn

    • The amaysim 6 month deals are over. The current amaysim deals are only for 2 months.

      • ‘We’re offering an exclusive, 50% off NBN plan fees for your first 6 months when you switch before 26 June’

        Literally what the email says

        • The previous 6 month amaysim deal expired May 22.

          1. Was the amaysim email sent today?
          2. Is the pricing the same as this?
            50% off nbn for 6 Months: 25/10 $30/M, 50/20 $37.50/M, 100/20 $40/M, 250/25 $45/M (Existing Mobile Customers Only) @ amaysim
          • @Twix: Correct. Email sent yesterday.

            • @HansW: Thanks. Do you want to post it?

If not I can mark the old deal as available again.

Question do all providers have a POP in Perth (if they have WA clients)?
Does picking a provider with a local POP (Perth for me) makes much difference to the speed and quality of service of the NBN that they provide?

    • +1

Hey mate, for me yes it makes a huge difference. Only the real budget telcos these days use over East POP and don't have a perth one. (for example Southern Phone & Spintel only have one POP in sydney). I noticed a difference in day to day web browsing as the ping goes to a minummum of 50ms to do anything. The only real cheap provider that has a POP in perth is FUBAR NBN.

    • +1

Not all providers have a POP in Perth. A provider with local infrastructure can make a difference.

      • Is there somewhere we can see where providers have POP for the best possible connections depending on state?

        • Looking glass, need a bit technical background but you can play around if they have one
Most small ISPs they don't provide lg

  • Dodo 100/20 $64.80/mth via Whistle out

Dodo 50/20 $59.80/mth via Whistle out

    • +3

Dodo wins price wise. I prefer the lower latency from Buddy Telco, Superloop and Leaptel.

      • i didn't notice any difference for ping going with Dodo vs Leaptel. Both have a POP in my area (perth)

        • It depends what you are doing. Who have you churned to?

          • +1

@Twix: Thats fair, I am currently with Leaptel cause i've got some referral credits but I ive tried most of them at this stage! im based in perth and the only ones ive had issues with are the ones with only an over east POP. Does my head in when I swap then I realise. 0 warning on their websites. Should be illegal tbh to have 0 warning for WA customers.

            • @Churna: Mate whats leaptel like ? Cause based on my conversation with their sales they don't have a Perth POP.

            • @Churna: Pretty sure Spintel is the only RSP without a Perth PoP. There may be some other really tiny unheard of ones that don't as well, but it never hurts to ask the question. All the mainstream RSPs have a local PoP here in Perth.

I'm also currently with Leaptel but have previously been with Dodo and they were perfectly fine for me too. Static/sticky IP is a bonus as well. I'm in the same boat as you re Leaptel credits, they'll run out in Sept/Oct and then I'll probably be looking at moving on. The 100/20 plan will become 500/50 then as well, and I'd be very prepared to go back to Dodo if it was still this cheap for that speed.

              • @bonezAU: Flip NBN, Southern Phone and spintel (and some other budget one posted here on ozbargain a month back) are the ones i've tried with over East POP only

                • @Churna: I'm surprised Southern Phone don't have a PoP in Perth. Aren't they the mob who AGL is reselling?

So stay away from Flip, SP and Spintel if in WA - good to know.

              • @bonezAU: @bonezAU good to know, I'm a bit lazy and can't be stuffed changing every 6mts. Might ditch spintel and go with leaptel for 12mts. Just did a ping test with a mate (he's on dodo) and he's ping was almost half of what I'm getting. Especially since the speed will increase 5 fold in September.

                • @gtech: Might be time to hand in your Ozbargain membership card (if you can be bothered)!
It takes 2 minutes of your life to sign up and churn, providing you stay away from the RSP's that use PPPoE (username and password), such as TPG/iiNet then you won't even need to reboot your router in most cases, the switch over just happens completely invisibly.

Dodo is fine, they are just resold Vocus connections (similar to Mate Communicate, Tangerine etc).

    • Any notice period with dodo?

  • +2

I saw the title and got excited thinking it was $75 for 6 months.

    • My mistake. Thanks for noticing.

  • +1

Superloop actually has better peering I find

  • +1

Hi Twix, thanks for the post, Can I switch the service from ABB(50/20, no contract) to Buddy's(100/20), and 2ndly get refund from ABB for any days the service is not used for the month. Cheers, Bob

    • +1

All good Bob. Yeah you can do that.

  • I've been with Buddy for 6 months, the speed and quality of service is on par with ABB and Leaptel.

I've never had to contact the chatbot for support.

My only dislike with Buddy is the somewhat slow 2FA, there is a delay getting my authentication code via SMS to access the member's portal.

Moreover, my 6 months $69 promotion with Buddy is expiring, rolling over to the new regular $85/month. and I'm thinking of churning to ABB soon. Then back to Leaptel 6 months after that.

  • Is there a CG-NAT opt out without having to pay for a static?

    • No, you have to get the static IP option.

  • Do they offer reasonable routers when signing up? I've been with Telstra for ages, who provide a router, so I'm very out of the loop on what it costs to get something on par with the default Telstra offering?

    • +1

eero 6+ router (1, 2 and 3-pack) is available upfront or on a 12-month payment plan.

It's suitable for Gigabit and below speeds and it only has two ethernet ports on each eero.

  • +1

Churning over from ABB to Buddy today on the 1000/50 plan for $99. Previous offer on ABB for the same plan just finished.

    • $99/m ongoing is great. The upload gets a boost to 100Mbps from September.

Maybe wait until Buddy tech support is open tomorrow. I'm not sure if Buddy has fixed the Gigabit ordering problem. The Gigabit order used to get stuck with nbn and you have to ask Buddy live chat to manually fix it.
