i just moved from boost to Optus, Telstra/Boost have really started to oversell their towers and it shows. Also they have really long downtimes when they have an outage. For example Chermside Mall In Brisbane was out for 2 weeks, while Optus and Vodafone was still humming along. Parts of Brisbane city undergoing maintenance downtime is 12 days. Sure it is what it is but it's happening all too often cannot work like that. My experience with Optus has been amazing out bush better than Telstra and surprisingly better speeds.

This is a good deal if you still believe in the hype.

    • -1

Optus refuse to port my number over to them because i ported out years ago

      • What? really ?

      • +7

Legally they cant do that unless the number back listed for some other reason. Please ask them to provide a reason in writing
In no way I am suggesting you have done something wrong.

        • The customer service rep gave me some bullshit reason about porting out. That was about 10 years ago. Haven't tried since. Anyway Optus and Vodafone reception is awful where i am

    • +1

      OOS

    • Im currently with voda there the worst

      Thinking of switching to optus

Use too be on boost, good service though was getting more expensive

Did u use the recent coles sale for optus?

      • +1

ya! i in fact got a refund from boost on my yearly plan switched to Optus… I even tried Coles Mobile and it really good. I think im convinced 4G is faster sometimes. turns out optus has the lowest frequency 700mhz which mean it penetrates through buildings better giving better speed but thats only with 4G

        • Thanks, so better coverage in hospitals also?

      • Try get the aldi deal if 4g is enough for you

        • Aldi stinks, they were ok 5-10 years ago

      • -1

You can't even compare voda to Optus. Your taking 10 steps backwards.

If you're not happy with voda, they only choice to make for better is boost/telstra

        • Oh optis worse than voda?

          • +2

@ATTS: Yep, boost/telstra is you're only option imo.

The only way to find out 100% what works for you. Buy 1 month Sims and try them out

          Why Optus Has Strong Penetration

✅ 1. Strong Use of the 700 MHz Band
          • Low-frequency spectrum (like 700 MHz) travels further and penetrates walls and buildings better than higher frequencies like 1800 MHz or 2100 MHz.
          • Optus uses 700 MHz extensively for 4G LTE, especially in both urban and regional areas.
          • Telstra also uses 700 MHz, but in many city/suburban zones, Optus often deploys it more aggressively with carrier aggregation (multiple frequency use for better speeds + coverage).

          ✅ 2. Widespread 4G+ (LTE-A) Deployment
          • Optus has rolled out LTE-Advanced features such as 4G+ across many towers.
          • It combines 700 MHz + 1800 MHz + 2300/2600 MHz, giving both strong signal and decent speed even indoors.

          ✅ 3. Urban Building Penetration
          • In city areas with concrete/brick buildings and underground carparks, Optus often performs better than Vodafone due to:
          • Lower band use
          • More densely placed small cells
          • Better in-building system support (like DAS – Distributed Antenna Systems)

    • Been the case for a while in chermside but regional qld still telstra is the best 😮‍💨

    • +2

Where I live in Clyde, Vodaphone/Optus does not have reception while Telstra/Boost do.
It's disingenuous to make blanket statements based on just your own experiences, because I can claim the exact opposite to you - Optus sucks and Telstra/Boost doesn't.

Telstra are also better on unblocking Chinese phones. For example, the Vivo X200 pro isn't supported on Optus or Vodaphone right now.
Point is that different telcos are better at different things, theres more to it than just 'hype' .

      • Telstra blocked my Poco x3 pro ages ago, I've tried many different Sims nothing works for me anymore

    • So now Optus is the real deal and Telstra is just hype?
What world do you live in haha

  • +1

I also moved from Boost to Optus and it fares a better in Perth (northern suburbs)

  • I have moved from Boost to Catch… overall, very happy with the reception / speeds across Sydney Metro….

The only issue I have experienced (which is huge) is that Catch (Onepassmobile) blocks AdGuard DNS (both DoH and DoT)…. NextDns works… just not adguard which is frustrating because I have paid subscriptions for adguard.

Oputs and vodafone now use same network. Whether Telstra/Boost coverage is better than Optus/vodafone is depends on locations.
BTW, we also have Vodafone $250 sim card on sale this moment.

    • +8

That's not correct? Vodafone still operates it's own network in metro… but has a sharing agreement with optus for regional locations only

      • Perhaps he means they are on the same netwrok.

      • yeap, I mean coverage only. In Metro area, sometimes you will find vodafone have better speed as less customers.

    • -1

      this is absolutely false

  • Days of sub $200 boost yearly account deals are numbered

    • Go with Aldi perhaps =)

      • Still not sub $200. The recent 'deal' posted isn't actually available in any stores, though the $229/yr option is

      • No avoid Aldi

        • -1

any particular reason? its running on telstra wholesale network similar to boost eh?

          • @kaleidoscope: Yes it's telstra network but not full network.

Boost is the only reseller using full telstra network

            • @Bretttick: i see, do you happen to know what are the affected areas of non full network? im on boost and the reception isnt any better. i live in northern suburbs of melbourne and most of the time the phone is on wifi calling at home. and when i travel to city on train there are about 5 stations closer to the cbd where there is a total blackout during peek hours.

              • @kaleidoscope: Western suburbs Melbourne, I don't go CBD often. But I travel around abit, every where I went I always had mates saying phone was off.

It got worse in Queensland helensvale area, I was able to make it get incoming calls for a whole month till I switched to voda.

That was Aldi sim at that time, amaysim was the same.

                Didn't bother trying with kogan

  • Any deals on 260gb / $300 plan?

    • Topcashback have $60 back on the $300 plan

      • It shows 300 to me

        • +1

you have to use the code BONUS

        • $238 delivered. Use code BONUS at checkout.

      • any experience with this site as it looks a little dodgy having so many prepaid sim plans having very nice specials…?

        • Yeah they're good. Ive done many orders from them, both direct and through their eBay store. One time I got a SIM that wouldn't activate ($160 Telstra on clearance) and they apologised and promptly sent a $180 Telstra as replacement.

      • Now $245

  • Does this allow receiving text messages and calls while overseas without having to purchase a roaming pack?

    • +2

I didn’t activate roaming, but I had no issues receiving calls and texts from Australia through Wi-Fi calling.

      • +1

You can receive texts fine, and you can receive calls through WiFi calling. You can also configure it to receive calls through wifi calling even without wifi, using an additional sim (like a travel e-Sim) for mobile data and setting your boost sim to a foreign mobile network that boost/telstra doesn't have an agreement with.

        • I'm with Belong (also on Telstra network)… should this also work?
I just got back from o/seas and all my calls didn't come through when I wasn't on wifi.
I had a data eSIM active which worked for data fine, but no calls were coming through.
Do you mean manually searching for a different network and joining it? How would I know which network they dont have an agreement with?

    • +1

Yes, i was in china getting western propaganda texts from my friend just fine. Couldnt download MMS images though.

  • Thanks. Perfect timing with the $1 express postage

    • Received with thanks. Expiry is actually 2025-09-08 which is September 8

  • Does this include the Iwatch sim sharing ?

    • Nope.

  • OOS?

    • Yep

    • Only 50+ units were in stock

  • +1

    Who is Simon Line?

    • you can search the past deals, we had been trade here for several years.

  • Tried using boost last time and it was a nightmare for me to port my number across. It didn’t work and their customer service was a nightmare to deal with. They have no local customer support and their staff are all based in India. They just give you the run around with no intent to actually resolve the issue for you. Will never use boost again until they have some local support

    • Been using boost for years. Never had an issue.

  • Did I get one ? I did pay in 4 via PayPal
First payment went through however it then removed item and went oos?

  • Sold out?

    • Yes

  • dang.

  • Damn! I wanted this sim…

  • Any more stock on the way OP?

    • we run out of stock this time

  • any more stock please?

  • Yeah I was too slow to the party on this one.

  • Any more deals please?
