What Is Going on with Amazon Australia's Shipping Times?

Is anyone else having huge dispatch delays with Amazon or am I just getting unlucky?

Since the end of March every order I've placed has taken multiple weeks to be shipped, some I've had to contact chat and just cancel and order elsewhere because nothing is happening, all the items I've purchased have been in stock and shipped from Amazon AU.

I've been in contact with chat multiple times for around 10-12 items and each time they have asked me to cancel the order and confirm the "Delivery ETA" in checkout which always says a few days. I then place the order again and the same thing happens, weeks delay without anything being shipped.

One item I didn't cancel because I couldn't get it cheaper anywhere which I placed an order for on the 1st of May and it only shipped yesterday.

On Monday I set up an auto delivery for some nappies & wipes that were in-stock, said ETA for the first delivery was 2 days on checkout. Noticed it hadn't shipped today (Wednesday) decided to actually call instead of dealing with the live chat this time and they said the ETA for the first delivery would be the 14th of July…. It's meant to auto-deliver every 4 weeks so the first shipment is due to arrive 2 weeks after the next auto-delivery is supposed to ship…

What the hell is going on? I'd understand if it was one or two items but it's literally everything I order. I've wasted so much time dealing with live chat for them to just tell me to cancel the items, I've cancelled Prime and just paying the extra elsewhere from now on.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Edit: Some people asking where I'm trying to send things, I've tried to have items shipped to Melbourne CBD (Our Office), Hobart & NSW. I also don't know if that is relevant due to the delays not being from the courier, they don't even leave the amazon warehouse?

Where are you located? Mine have been exceptionally quick. Located Brisbane and most things arrive day after I order them.

    • +1

      Melbourne CBD, Sydney & Hobart.

This might be the issue - maybe you’ve been flagged as “sharing your account”, given you have multiple addresses across multiple states

They cancelled an order on me once after I changed the delivery address to my parents (I was out of town during the delivery window)

        • +2

That's interesting, no Amazon rep has mentioned anything like that on the multiple live chats or the call today but based on the responses no one seems to have issues like I am so could be something to do with my account.

The reason for the multiple addresses is purchasing and shipping stuff to my staff members and to our office in Melbourne (I'm in Hobart) - Always the same billing info just different address and recipients.

Not even sure where I'd start to ask if something like this is the issue.

          • @owenj:

            different address and recipients

This is exactly what would happen if an account was compromised too - so maybe you’re flagging automated fraud checks too

Doubt they would confirm/deny their fraud checks thought

@barge-in hunter: Yeah I can understand where this may be seen as strange to an automated system. I think i'll try and contact support instead of enquiring about why certain items aren't being dispatched and enquire as to why all of my items are taking forever to dispatch. Hopefully they can see if something is wrong with my account.

              Thanks for your time responding.

  • BOY you have to tell us where do you LIVE!

How does where I'm sending them affect the time it takes to leave the amazon warehouse? But to answer I've tried to ship things to Melbourne CBD, Sydney & Hobart.
The issue isn't with the courier's delivery time; it's they don't leave the Amazon warehouse.

      • +1

Badluck, I have no problems getting it on time. (Marrickville NSW)

      • It can, if it has to wait for shipment to be consolidated before it leaves the warehouse say for a remote location

    • +3

      Who you calling BOY, boy?

      • +1

        Surely you can’t be serious

        • Why's that?

        • +5

They are serious, and don't call them Shirley.

  • No issue with same and next day deliveries in Sydney.

There will always be some items that are on backorder or take longer to dispatch. The recent Hush Puppies Deacon Boot ordered 5th May but won't dispatch/deliver till 18th June. It happens.

I tend to batch 5-10 items so they get delivered together, but noticed recently they send them as individual packages for each item for some reason. Same single order, same delivery, just multiple parcels.

  • No issues with Next Day Delivery or ever generally delivers.

I can get Next Day to 3810 (Pakenham) and get 2 day delivery to 3820 (Warragul). If I order something today, I would probably have it Friday. I've had no problems.

What sort of products are you ordering? and are they delivered by Amazon or delivered by a 3rd party?

  • No issues for me. S&S order shipped on schedule today and is showing as out for delivery today.

  • No issue here.

Amazon doesn't like you, shop from somewhere else instead.

    • Haha it seems like it based on the responses so far, super weird.

For my most recent order, they waited 10 days before shipping the items out. All items were "in stock" when ordered, and will be delivered by AusPost in 3-4 days (as I would expect for location). Order will probably just make it before (what appeared to be) generous delivery date promises.

I cancelled a previous order when the items hadn't shipped in about 14 days from ordering.

But, I am an ex-Prime member…. maybe they think making me wait longer will make me resubscribe (rather than just buying from elsewhere).

  • Is anyone else having huge dispatch delays with Amazon or am I just getting unlucky?

Nope. Had deliveries yesterday and today, both delivered 'next day'…

Were the items you purchased actually marked as Prime items with next or two day shipping label near the price? How far off the estimated shipping date were these? Plenty of things sold on Prime can take weeks if not fulfilled by Prime or located overseas.

    • +1

Yep, I always purposely select the Prime & In-stock items. I think @barge-in hunter might be onto something about my account being flagged due to sending to multiple addresses. Not something that is done often and 80% of the stuff is shipped to my home address but currently the only thing I can think of as no one else seems to be having these issues.

  • You're not alone. I've had a lot of orders from late April throughout May get the same. Completely random ones too, while others ship fine. I've reordered the same products and they've shipped. The only pattern is ones sent to the business addresses have been delayed but not residential.

Chat cited a packing issue and that's as far as I've got.

i get stuff next day, sometimes same day

    • Me too

I am a Prime member and only 15min drive from a major Sydney Amazon warehouse though

I look on with envy. I live in regional North Qld and it takes at least two weeks to get an amazon delivery here. Next day delivery would be so awesome and in reality things can be shipped overnight but especially since covid when stuff took longer it has never gone back to overnight. I am not sure about amazon before covid because I didn't use it then. You would think that with so much automation things would speed up but if you don't live in a capital city the opposite seems to be the case. I just can't understand how 5 or 10 years ago you could get stuff overnight and today with all these tech advancements it now takes two weeks.

  • I had two auto deliveries get cancelled on the day they should have arrived. No reason, just a refund.
I've gone and purchased the two items and they're both in stock. Says delivery should be tomorrow. I'll post back if it gets delivered.

  • Same issue here in South Australia, been happening for 6 or so weeks.

Have chatted online with them & got a month refunded when I threatened to cancel it.

However, items ordered 12/05 which still hasn't shipped

  • Yeah, something is def up with Amazon shipping, I've had a few orders not ship lately. I'm thinking either they want to force people onto Prime, or they are shadow banning people for various reasons including honoring heavily discounted products from users (not profitable enough for them) who order too many items too soon, probably some for-fraud reasons or even for using VPNs.

No issues, and I use multiple addresses and recipient names. A PO Box, a Melbourne suburb address, two surf coast addresses, with different family member names, but all billed to the PO address. Aus Post has been super fast - 1 day usually, and Vic surf coast goes through their warehouse in Geelong overnight and always delivered next day, even when ordered as late as 11pm. Sometimes Prime, sometimes not.

We rarely use Amazon but in the last 2 months we have purchased 4 times all arrived several days ahead of the expected day.

Mine been stuck in shipping delayed for couple weeks before I cancelled. Guess is some items unavailable from China due to Trump's tariff wat

  • Okay so an update after suspecting something may be wrong with my account, my partner signed up last night and placed an order for two items that I had been having issues with & they have already been dispatched.

It has to be something on my account, which is weird because I've had an Amazon AU account since they opened here (and US before that) - Have multiple Amazon products all using my account (Firesticks, Eero routers)

I don't really know what to make of it but i'll try contacting support again and ask.

    • They could be giving new customers the priority to leave a good first impression.

  • happened to me once recently (1 out of 10 orders, lets say) - was meant to arrive in 1 day but actually took maybe 2 weeks to ship (i'd actually forgot i ordered that item) with no updates or anything.
on the flip-side, 1 item i ordered a week ago was same-day-delivery, which was a first for me in 5 years of amazon shopping.
im a prime member and live in central sydney

  • loads of trouble lately. Just cancelled an item I needed for work. said next day delivery, still says next day delivery even now, but after a week it still hadn't shipped.

  • same day/next day
    South East suburbs

  • What i do find is that they do seem to have less accurate stock levels or something as i do find more of my orders end up getting delayed and then cancelled months down the track due to no stock, Not that many but more than i used to experience.

  • Yep, I live in Picton NSW on the fringe of metro and it’s become a joke.
I’ll have parcels sit there in a “Order Received” state.

I found that cancelling and reordering seems to trigger something to actually work after it’s been sitting there for a month. I had 3 items that when I tried to cancel them they couldn’t and the appeared two days later.

Amazon tell me they are in that state because they are awaiting on a courier to say they will take them.

  • My orders from Amazon almost always arrive when they say they will arrive, be it same day, next day or in 2-3 days, it's basically never late. I live in suburban Melbourne.

  • No issue here in metro Adelaide. Max 3 days between order and delivery.

I do feel like Amazon has started penny pinching a bit more though, so it wouldn't be surprising if that's lead to a degradation of their service. Free returns have become way more rare and, based on my experience, mistakes in orders have become more common and customer service have been way less helpful than they have previously.

We've hardly had any problems with amazon deliveries.
