Yeah I don't think it is worth the risk, as going through their 1 star reviews, there is a couple they replied to (1) they said customer returned drive as 2TB and (2) they said they going to charge the customer damage fee for return.

Ordered 20TB drive and received a 10TB drive with a 20TB sticker haphazardly applied.

THE most terrible experience during my 6 years of using Amazon. I order THREE Seagate Exos X20 20TB hard drive disk. But I got one 4TB hard drive disk and two 20TB hard drive disks. I called amazon immediately and request for replacement. I understand awful thing can happen, so it might be just a mistake. But i was too naive, because the rest two drives are both defective. Very bad experience

i got a hair dryer instead of 20TB…

i am very upset. It was to be a Seagate 20TB External Hard drive with Rescue Data Recover Services. What I got in a box, was a seagate device (not in new packaging…could be used ) , was it the correct item? , in a plastic ziplock bag , no documentation nor mention of data recovery services. UNACCEPTABLE. Thought it was via Amazon, not a sketchy company.

This is a bait and switch scam artist!
By Richard Brown on March 7, 2025.

Dear Customer, we received your returned items, and upon inspection, we received three 2TB hard drives instead of the three 18TB drives that were purchased from us. We offered to send these back to you if provided with a label but never received a response. If you require further assistance, please reach out to our customer service team via message. Thank you!

DONT BUY ANY SEAGATE DRIVES AT THIS TIME - The market is flooded with these Chinese Refurbished drives that are reset this will come in an blank box in a used plastic bag - it is not from the manufacture

bought a 20tb got a 4tb in mail sent it back and got partial refund they are a bunch of thieves i would not buy from them if i was any one buyer beware

Every single one of five hard drives they sent was defective. I have ordered hard drives from other sellers and never had an issue. Then when I contacted them they only agreed to refund half the fee. Absolutely a scam. Do not use them.

Thank you for returning the items for the refund process. Unfortunately, the products arrived damaged with severe dents. As all our products are shipped in brand-new condition, and following Amazon's Return Policy, we've applied a damage fee for returned items in this condition. If any questions or need further assistance, please contact us via message. Our team will assist you promptly.

Ouch. What I don't understand is how this happens on drives shipped by Amazon??

I couldn't get a clear reading last time on how much these were to be trusted? There were a few non conclusive things thrown around in the thread.

The way I look at it is also a bit sceptical: 28tb for $600 is very good. Usually largest capacities are at a premium, and if it's too good to be true it usually is

    perfect for linux ISOs

Be careful. Seagate’s warranty and data recovery services do not extend to Australia.

I learnt this the hard way when my Seagate drive I bought in Feb died in May.

    • i'd never store important data on a single hdd or trust recovery services
cheapest 22tb on staticice $1000, this deal x2 28TB for $1200 is no brainer

cannot speak for this deal specifically but over 10 seagates always 50-75% off local price over past 8 years none have failed yet
no reason to waste time with warranty or data recovery when id rather have raid or cold backup for cheaper than single drive

    Yuck. Seagate.

Don't buy HDD from amazon. they arrive bouncing around in a cardboard box from somewhere overseas.
3 out 4 HDD i have bought this year from amazon i have returned.
I ended up paying a bit extra and bought from umart. Arrived with proper packaging

    • Which is why people buy them inside these enclosures.

    • if you are ordering a hard drive from overseas then you only have your own idiocy to blame

just look at the comment below, but if it's in an enclosure it's fine - this is the type of wilful ignorance you'll get in return

      • No, its amazons idiocy for selling them international. I'm not out of pocket , they are by a lot. I even drilled one because i couldnt wipe it before returning and got full refund.

    Imagine losing 28TB of data.

  • Any discount on 12 TB please?

  • +2

Those negative reviews are extremely concerning. Don't risk it.

With any storage, I only buy from Amazon stores. Even though it's shipped by Amazon the store its coming from is third-party and can be sketchy at best.
147 1-star reviews on the store alone is reason enough to avoid this deal like the plague.

    • Agreed.

  • its been over 2 years since amazon sold hdd's on sale

and what a deal that was, it was something crazy like 300 for 20tb

who would have thought over 2 years later prices would be higher for less storage, and the number of scams would increase and combine that with fakes, repackaged and re-used harddrives with smart data wiped so you are receiving multiple years old drives with 10-20k on hours used in servers or crypto mining

  • Bought one in May and another in June from QuickDealStore. Both lost in post and refunded by Amazon
