Suzuki Vitara (Manual Transmission) from $27,590 Drive Away @ Suzuki (Excludes QLD)

170

They have been trying to clear stock for some time and this seems to be the usual price for a Vitara for a prior year MY model. No idea what the dealers are willing to further discount them for.

Why is it a deal?
Countless posts on OzBargain and WP asking for a recommendation on a cheap and reliable A to B workhorse. This one fits the bill for anyone that doest mind a manual.

It's cheap, it's reliable and it's no frill.

    5-speed manual transmission

    Needs a 6th gear for $27k

    • If you're doing a lot of highway driving then yeah. Not sure what the revs on this will be at 110km/hr in 5th gear, but could be an ear ache if it's noisy.

      2 WD…. I hate that!
Visited China - BYD Seal duel motor AUD$ 28,800 off the floor. In Australia they laugh at you for not checking what they are worth even with a $1500 transport fee/ vehicle
And .. No I will not pay the Idiot tax anymore.

manual is great, only thing that needs replacing is a clutch one day, otherwise very simple mechanically.

    • +20

Remember the days of driving stick, meat pie in one hand, an Oak ice choc in the other, and steering with your knees?

      • +13

        That was me last week.

      • +3

Or the Magna/Verada cup holders which could take a 600ml milk carton?

That was chef's kiss in design

        • +4

I designed the North American market diamante cup holders in the day for every cup except the 1.9 litre mega gulp. They were round and the best part was a 600ml iced coffee fit snug perfect. Annoyingly the interior designer didn’t carry over the design into the 380. To this date the limited edition manual lease car with the Koni struts is the best dynamic handling and ergonomic car I have ever driven. I could hit speed bumps at 60 in a lowered car and hardly feel the bumps as they had 5 slow to fast stage valving which meant they could be soft over a pit hole and firm around a fast bend.

        • By the way the Aussie cup holders were crap compared to the North American ones. Very poor hold on an ice coffee.

          • @Gusper: Was ok from memory? Top half of the holder was square

            • +1

@spackbace: Not tight though, you couldn’t corner hard without the carton falling over and spilt milk in a car is terrible. Most were just excited there was somewhere to place it though.

              • +1

@Gusper: You didnt get the milk carton roll cage option?

    • +4

I had a manual ford focus Xr5 for ten years and loved it until I upgraded to a 4x4 last year and miss my focus every day.

      • +2

Next you'll be saying it was electric orange and I will hate you even more for your decision?

        • +1

Nah it was red, only a few around. Black out everything from grill to mirrors to roof to diffuser and wheels. Look hectic.

And modded the shit out of it. Was a great car.

        • +1

I’ve got one of these now, so much fun

          • @thrillho: Awesome. My son wants one badly. Still holds good money. Hard to find one that hasn't been over molested.

            • +1

@MS Paint: Mine’s for sale rn after 10 years… has not been molested, reasonably priced but a couple of caveats. Look for orange ones in Vic priced at $7500 and lmk if you wanna know more!

      • +1

I've owned 2 XR5's, both in Orange and loved them. First one was modded and could get flames from the exhaust haha. The 5 cylinder engines was just an amazing sound.

        • Man, if I wasn't getting married when I sold it, I would have never let it go. What a pocket rocket that 5 Potter.

          • @itsmoe: I’ve got one too and currently looking to sell, because I’ve had it 10 years and I need something more family oriented… most bittersweet feeling

            • +1

@thrillho: PM me the details when you are ready to sell.

            • @thrillho: What's next once you sell?

              • @itsmoe: Looking at small SUVs, maybe hybrid or maybe not. Kamiq, Corolla Cross, Kona etc

                • @thrillho: Nice nice. I got myself a Mahindra Scorpio. The difference between the focus and that is night and day. It's a lot more comfortable but power wise, the focus was a lot like a lot faster.

  • +2

I wish they still sold the small GV 4x4.

    • Not many people bought the 3 door

  • +4

just don't get the turbo diesel (if it's even an option anymore) - has ridiculous requirements on particulate filter like driving for 2hrs above 90km/h every month which is near impossible to meet anywhere semi-urban and will cause all sorts of issues if you don't

    • +1

in fact - the whole interaction with my parents, telling them it's their fault for not meeting this ridiculous requirement that was buried deep in the manual, left a bad association and I'll be staying away from Suzuki indefinitely - YMMV

        • +5

jesus - you know you can refute comments without personal insults? but I hey guess other things run in your family..

why would I "unrespond"? had an opinion, sticking by it.

do you read every 1000 page manual of every product you own?
will you continue to do so right up until 3 or 4 years before retirement?

I know my parents are not tech savy - the dealership took advantage of that

          • @Jaspa7: It's ok mate, my parents came home with a new Toyota Avalon once… lasted three weeks before it went back. Damn those dealerships!

    • T/D was the Grand Vitara… This is the Vitara

      2 different cars

    • +3

Yeah this is pretty much across the board, my Audi needed a 15 minute burn at 3000+ revs fortnightly before i turfed it.

      Diesels and cities don't mix.

      • +5

        Diesels and cities don't mix.

They used to. That's why they were popular city cars in Europe for decades. Changes in emission standards killed their usefulness as city cars.

        • +4

Yeah the DPF's turned diesels from reliable work horses to crippled sh1tboxes.

    • LOL.
You just described nearly every modern diesel.

    $27,590 Drive Away + ORC

    Revised title doesn't make sense.

    • Not sure who has changed it.

Vitaras are not what they were. They used to be small but serious 4WDs now they are just mom picking the kids up SUV's with pretty low levels of features

    • +3

Yeah 185 mm unladen ground clearance. It's basically just a hatchback with an oversized engine bay and oversized wheels.

  • So these are all 2023 builds?
