find another $50-$75 for the g75

    • InB4 someone says… spend more & get something better. Damn too slow haha.

    • +1

The description above has very good info.

What does the G75 do better for that $50 - $75?

  • 4GB these days is barely enough today, won't be enough for anything in 2 years. It is a good idea to find extra $50-100 to get 8GB phone.

    • +1

For basic use & things like watching Youtube & checking some websites (OzB) it will be fine.

I've been using an Optus X Pro with 3GB RAM & it does all those things.

      • +2

This simple concept is impossible for OzBargainers to understand

        • Should stop posting 8Gb ram mobile-phones deals…& joking 😇

The short story & for kids' 1st phone…they'll break-it or grow out-of-it in 1-2 year. This phone is fine…clearance-price soon?

          OTHERS: likely that many will need 6Gb RAM for future-proofing their device in 2 years time? I'm a LOW-end user, running Android14 on a 8Gb Motorola-device, Running-services tells me that I'm using 3 - 3.5Gb ram.

People are moving more-functions onto their mobile-phones than-ever & this trend will continue. These functions were previously done on PC/laptop & enable by the many features the industry is adding to these device.

UN-known ram usage: we have NO-idea what Android16 & APPs will consume. Nor can we predict what APP is needed &/or convenience in 2 years? Look @ your OLD-mobile: what Android-OS it's running, how much RAM is needed & how slow is the dam-thing (sure, the processor is slow-too) but earlier Android-OS & APPs are likely to RESTRICT ram-usage. Maybe there's a nexus with Android-OS version, processor-speed & ram-usage?

BUT 🙋‍♀️…moving forward, how many people will using their NEW-device as a MAIN-phone in the 3rd year of ownership? What's driving the reduction in lifespan of mobile-phones…global phenomenon?😇🧐

+1 on Moto G75 unless your budget is that tight or you prefer a tad bit smaller size over everything else. Overall better phone and I reckon you could sell the buds for around $50 as well (I use it myself and it's ok though)

So you're saying if you spend more you'll get something better? Lol.

nano+esim, so no double sim slots?

    • +3

It's getting inherently harder to find dual physical sim slots in good value phones.

Dad needs dual physical sims in his second phone as he and mum holiday in China every second month and he has a Chinese mobile sim that needs to be in use with his second mobile service that various apps are attached to. We ended up getting a Nothing Phone 2a for something with enough grunt to not feel sluggish. Was previously eyeing the Samsung A25 but that thing hardly went on sale and wasn't good value compared to the Nothing Phone 2a when on sale.

      @Rain Cloud, @Mugsy,

Try Moto-G84: saw demo on display @ JB-Hifi 2 weeks ago & retailers are due to off-load stock soon-ish?

Real-world-experience is different from the MANY-up-vote of eSIM dual sim phone? My MAIN-phone is dual-sim: eSIM(MAIN#…just to receive sms/calls) & pSIM(churn#…data/voice/sms). There're instance where this set-up cause inconvenience because AU-carriers DON'T allow simutaneous-use of both sims, eg call-OUT via churn# & at the same time being able to receive sms on main#, 2-factor-validation while talking to bank.

      • +1

        I discarded the G84 for a few reasons…

        1. Camera is underwhelming (this is a general weakness of Moto phones from my testing of the G54 and samples of other phones obtained online). I don't have the time to tinker with gcam to get better outcomes. Dad travels a lot and needed something that performed better out of the box.

        2. OS/Security updates for that generation of Moto phones where a bit short. The current models ending in '5' have bumped up the timeframe OS and security support lasts for. This is important for travel again. We had severe issues with getting mum and dad's Amaysim roaming to work after their previous phones had the OS out of date for about a year.

I'd have been happy getting Dad another Samsung phone considering how long their updates last for but Nothing Phone were adequate.

  • What was the logic for a 4Gb RAM ? 6Gb as min. & 8Gb future-proofing to extend usage in the 4th year of ownership?

    • I think 8gb is the go to nowadays with 12gb as future proofing but don't quote me on that.

  • +2

8gb would have been nice for the 2 people that would still be using this phone in 4 years.

    • G54 is 8GB.

    • +1

People here are frugal & I've NO-doubt that more than 2 will be using this phone in 4 years & long after I've give-in to my desire-to-consume for features that's nice to have(or what ever) but is NOT-needed 😇

      • +1

and then there are people like me who like having a decent 8 gb ram phone as a main driver (currently still

happily using a Pixel 7), but then also using a few older phones (Pixel 3 XL/Moto G84/Samsung A32),

for youtube/Googling/hotspotting/other carrier usage for better rural reception mainly whilst long term travelling

(I do not travel with a TV or DVD player).

So as you can see I often get at least 3-5 years usage this way out of my phones, and I stopped buying those

cheaper pre paid/low end phones years ago as they ended up Way too slow.

Just to add to the ram discussion, my Pixel 3 XL with only 4 gb and running Android 12 is still running smoothly.

        • +1

Bang for $: PRIOR-years flagship-models, or current MID-range models on-clearances-> 'I stopped buying those cheaper pre paid/low end phones years ago as they ended up Way too slow.'

Likely that you'll buy a NEW-phone within 2 years😇. Desire to consume is strong: driven by what ever reasonings people justify to themselves…endless.

Maybe there's a nexus with Android-OS version, processor-speed & ram-usage🤔-> 'Pixel 3 XL with only 4 gb and running Android 12 is still running smoothly'

          • @ab c: The two phones you linked to were both great deals and I was super tempted and nearly pulled the trigger on a Pixel 8 Pro 128 GB, but then remembered I would love a good quality second hand e-bike as I am moving into new place 73 KLM away from a beautiful beach, and I Love the outdoors. Anyway, my Pixel 7 should work well and stay up to date for few more years (just started using it as my old 3XL was still working soooo wel for My usage anyway).

  • A warning, the chips of this phone are low end type(antutu v10 450K), only slightly better than my 2yo motorolla edge 30 neo(antutu v10 390K). my phone occasionally got freeze while in use, and I never play games. recently it became even worse. so I don't think this is a good choice even for $197. I suggest you pay a little more bucks, and buy a middle range phone.

    • +1

Have you correctly diagnose the REAL-source of 'occasionally freeze' ? It's trials-&-errors with many potential causes, eg software issues, RE-set etc etc…just like Windows-OS, https://www.google.com/search?q=edge+30+neo+occasionally+fre…

      • +1

Well, thanks for the tips. It might work for me. Let's see.

        • +1

Software support is expensive: Android-OS & security updates. Motorola reduced support is factored in their prices & hence users need to find fixes.

  • Is this good enough to use for felix hotspot?

  • +1

    3.5mm headphone jack

You can listen to actual FM radio. This phone should have the app to listen to terrestrial FM.Good if you want to save some Gb on your sim plan. Also good if you're at the footy (AFL), as I found most of the radio apps are on at least a 30 second-1 minute delay compared the live action.
