Gladiator 2 (2024) Movie Rental $0.99 @ Apple TV

130

another new release Rent for 99c. afaik these will end on Friday (you can rent it now and have 30 days to watch it as long as you don't press play - after which you get 48 hours). not available to stream any other service currently. 50/50 chance it comes to Primevideo in 2 months.

was kind of iffy about watching this and now I think I will for the price.

I heard somewhere that this was the worst movie of 2024. I asked about it in forums and ozbers said it's watchable, but a lot worse than the original with Russell Crowe, and also changed the story of the original a bit which can upset the fans of the original.

I think I saw the first one, well actually my memory is that it was just "on" the TV and I remember the ending (no spoilers).

Starring: Denzel Washington, Pedro Pascal, Paul Mescal, Connie Nielsen.

Lucius emerges after fifteen years in hiding

Taking place after the events of the original Gladiator film, Commodus’s nephew Lucius is now grown up after being saved by Maximus. Lucius has been living in the wilderness, and no-one has seen him for the last fifteen years.

Torn between wanting to upvote the deal and downvote for how sh!te the film was :S

for anyone else wanting to watch a good Ridley scott.

checkout "The Last Duel" it's on Primevideo right now. previously a Disney exclusive so catch it while you can on your month of Prime.

it had the most epic medieval duel I have ever seen. also helps that the story is good and everything in the story leads up to it.

    • Now that's actually a pretty good film. Largely slept on but was well worth watching on the big screen with a few epic scenes

yes should have also said after "Disney exclusive".

Disney is getting a habit of restricting all their new releases to Disney+ sub only, and available to "buy" on Apple TV for like a ridiculous price of ~$14.99. they even block the rent option.

so watching it while on Primevideo is a chance you want to take. I also found they remove them quickly from Prime, the Predator movie "Prey" (another Disney exclusive) was expiring recently so I made sure to catch it again while on Prime.

edit: ok I noticed "The Last Duel" on Apple TV is $11.99 to buy, no rent option. but tbf might as well be $14.99 because I'm not paying $12. but just checked "Prometheus" from 2012 is $14.99 to buy, no rent option. I noticed this recently too on older releases so yeah they are doing it to their entire library.
fyi "buying" on digital is just a longer version of renting. they can take away the movie after the license expires (1 year? 5 years? who knows) the same on streaming services.

      • nah this was almost as bad as gladIIator tbh…so predictable

        • +1

predictable isnt always bad. i thought it was an amazing peice of cinema personally

    • tbh it's not a great sub for me. I just added up 2 to 3 movies on Primevideo wishlist watched those, and can get by with recurring 1 week free trial through Primevideo.

I still have almost a year until next week of free Paramount. but I would like to watch it for free. 😀

    Renting movies lol

    • We were all forced to do it in the 80s/90s. before the seven seas went digital

      • Seven seas?

          piracy

  • pretty bad movie. borderline fantasy movie. flooding the Colosseum to have a ship battle with sharks? lol

    • Stupid but fun to watch.

      • Was it? i was fast forwarding quite a lot after final gladiator battle.

    • +5

The Colosseum was actually flooded to mimic naval warfare. Don’t know about the sharks though lol

I was going to say the same thing lol. Still wasn't the most egregious thing in the film. Those CGI monkeys at the start were ridiculous. It's like Ridley forgot which franchise he was working on for a second and tried to shoehorn some Alien content in there.

if i want to see sh@t i can look in the toilet for free

I thought the movie was fine. Not going to win any awards but decently entertaining.
The relation to the old characters was a bit odd imo.

  • about to neg the deal tbh….. this is not a bargain - it's a waste of your time, you would have to pay me to watch
I am a big ridley fanboy too btw

  • I'd admit it would be a good watch after a big night out or during a big party and/or family gathering, but personally not something I'd watch again

    • during a big party and/or family gathering,

years ago that's exactly how I passively watched the first Gladiator. it was just "on" the TV. I didn't really watch it tbh but I remember the middle and ending.
