Take your snake oil and fob off!

    I'll just leave this here - https://www.theguardian.com/business/article/2024/jul/23/dot…

And also, Didn't the FTC sue Doterra?

    Modern snake oil this is

Product page doesn't even list the ingredients. As a parent that's the first thing I want to know about a complementary health product. If you're gonna try & flog snake oil, at least make the pitch interesting.

    • -2

The ingredients and other details are in the individual product listings. This is specifically a bundle deal of those two oils.

      • +2

which are linked where? Seems you have a lot to learn about OzB, the first being that shoddy products are not well received.

        • -1

Scroll down 3cm and click the rescuer bottle to see the product. Description says "doTERRA Rescuer® Soothing Blend is a specialised combination of Copaiba, Lavender, Spearmint, and Zanthoxylum essential oils".

Clicking the magnifying glass on the website and typing "steady" takes you to the Steady bottle info and it states "Amyris, Balsam Fir, Coriander, and Magnolia CPTG® essential oils".

Took me all of eight seconds really.

          • @bUrd: The linked page has been updated since the lack of details was pointed out.

    • What about other health products?

Sorry you've been caught up in this MLM scheme. Not a deal.

Gee $175 minimum for free shipping thats crazy. I think thats the highest minimum free shipping ive seen.

    • -2

We have tried to lower the shipping fees as much as possible - it is $9.95 country wide. We pay shipping of $12.50 per order so in reality it costs us to ship directly. We're sorry if this puts you off purchasing.

      • Thats fine but your making profit on the item so its not costing you to ship your just making $2.55 less to ship it.

        • I appreciate you viewpoint.

          • @[Deactivated]: You are trying to run a business here and doing your best - but ozbargain is always going to go hard on expensive products with a tiny discount. This probably isn't the best place for your listing.

It will be brutal but it's just a 'lesson learned' kind of thing.

It's all "snake oil" until it gets a patent /s

If only the ingredients had any evidence of doing anything at all. /s

Next you'll be telling me that there's a special bark from a special tree that can treat my pain. Or there's special beans that can make me more alert. /s

One poor study done on humans , one done on cells by dotterea employees with claims about proteins with no mass spec based research. Essentially nothing done on humans. These are poor studies for evidence and only for hypothesis generation

      • +2

Glad I wasn't the only one who looked at those studies and had the same thoughts

      • Damn. Absolute mic drop.

    • Found the cooker!

Lotta hate about the efficacy of essential oils. The oils themselves aren't responsible for the misrepresentation that nutjobs promote - they don't cure coughs and colds and cancer. Some oils help with skin conditions (just like any other lotion) or sore muscles (just like any other lotion/cream), they smell good, can be used in cooking.

For the msot part, people use these because the smell nice. I use a few blends when the family has a cold and can't breathe well and use oils in a diffuser at night and it works well. So many jumping on the cyinical bandwagon and going straight to "this is snake oil!" when the OP isn't making any claim that these products will cure anything.

    • I appreciate your perspective,

      TY @bUrd

I am negging this because it isn't a deal. You can get doterra equivalents for FAR less money and they are a sketchy company. No issue with people buying it - I know doterra reps and I love them dearly. But it's never a deal. It's a premium product due to the MLM structure and marketing puffery.

But I totally agree. Same with chiropractic. I love a good neck crack and have only trusted a handful of people to do it. It feels great. But none of them told me it would cure colds and cancer. They provided relief and that was that.

Chiros and osteopaths in the USA say the wildest things and make the whole profession look terrible.

      • hahaha oh man chiros cop so much crap from stereotypes and the quacks that claim they can cure illness. Haven't been in many years, but wow my chiro worked miracles when I had severe back and neck pain. Been doing a lot of admin and computer work and my posture is terrible. Might be time to go back for a crack!

        • Look out for deals on ergonomic keyboard and standing desks first! :-P

      • I am negging this because it isn't a deal…You can get doterra equivalents for FAR less money

You can. But that's like negging a deal for a Samsung something something phone because the Pixel something or other phone is cheaper. Or like negging a 'deal' for Krisky Kremes because coles own brand donuts are cheaper.

    • ehh "Support growing bodies and calm busy minds" implies a lot more than just nice smelling oils. Appears to be fairly standard MLM participant behaviour. We get a pretty good insight into the OP's mindset based on their dummy spit & departure from the site. Perhaps they've been misled by their handlers about using this as a free advertising platform and the community response came as a surprise. Anyway, even if it is just essential oils it's very overpriced.

  • Snake oil with limited unbiased evidence , would not be giving to kids

  • This is great. I came for the dragging. I can't believe this got past the admins.

  • $31 for 5ml of oil is crazy.

Shame I lost of good friend who suddenly became too busy 'establishing' their doterra 'business'.

Rump steak $20 a kilo. Beef jerky $120 a kilo.

Leaves/roots/flowers - cheap. Oils from organics after processing - expensive.

  • love the smell
