Bunnings 30% Markup between Stores 10km Away from Each Other

Just watched video where he compares Bunnings items between stores less than 10km away.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2EB2FpYNiOs
Prices can vary 30% between stores. Store won't let you get the other store price or even price beat it.

Something to think about if you are spending on items
e.g. compare external door.

Thornleigh $159.25 with Pymble $198. They are 6km apart.

  • Thornleigh $159.25 with Pymble $198.

    Pymblites can afford it.

Maybe price match with their own store ? Lol

    • +1

      He tried that.

      • Their price match policy doesn't say they can't price match their own.

    • Maybe price match with their own store ? Lol

Why not? I've 'price matched' the website at stores before when the online price is showing far cheaper than the store price (think JB hifi online showing it on sale and the store not)

If a store 6km can sell it 30% less, then so can that store.

  • Yeah but I can't, I go to Pymble store as its much bigger than Thornleigh.

      Yeah but I can't

I hear the Thornleigh store is only 6km away. Not far. Try there?

Wow, I thought all pricing was the same across Australia for Bunnings.

    • Same, does this happen other stores aswell? Like woolworths kmart or something

      • Yes. It is why you need to enter your postcode on their site.

Maybe clearance stock at a particular store

Thank you for this post. I'll start checking ours from now on. That's really crazy!

Markup jack up is registered copyrighted trademark of this country!
When they ask you would say this is luck county, who will know it.

It's because Bunnings price beats local stores too. So if a local store had those doors at a price lower than Bunnings, then they would drop that price for the local store/storea. Happens all the time. They won't drop a price at a Sydney Bunnings of the lower price is at a local shop in Brisbane for example

    • The two stores in question are only 6km apart.

      • +1

Doesn't matter. They'd still be price matching someone local

    Scummings
    Burnings
    Scammer Barn

  • Darwin is $218.
(Cheap for a Capital City). lol

  • This is why I hate Bunnings. Lack of competition overall.

  • Thanks I didn't know this.

I just checked that door price at all of my locals and the price was $198 at every store but I will check again on other items I need to buy in the future. Unfortunately my locals are not that local and the next closest one is another 15km away.

  • From the Bunnings Price Policy page:

Our lowest prices policy means that if you find a competitor's lower price (including GST and delivery charges) on the same in-stock item, we'll beat it by 10%.

    Scumbags.

That's where you need a lawyer, since two Bunnings stores compete with each other with different pricing.

  • Individual store pricing is extremely common with chain stores. A lot of the individual store pricing is based on competion in the immediate area if there is no or little competition they will have higher prices. You see that with Colesworth in regional areas all the time on none specials as a smaller town will have less options.

The 3 nearest Woolworths stores near me all have different prices the one in the smallest town is clearly the dearest.

  • What's a lawyer going to do for you that simple critical thought can't?

What is critical thought going to do for you, that a 'validation seeking' thread on a forum can't?

      • No points for second place, sonny. Now, try answering the question. What result do you think a lawyer could achieve in this scenario?

        • Aren't you the critical thinker?

But for your pleasure while you mull over your pop quiz> A lawyer, in any situation, achieves more wealth than they are worth, over a longer period than necessary.

          • @Protractor: Thanks for proving my point so succinctly

            • @umyeahokay: You're welcome. BTW Critical thinking, is one of the most over used terminologies in the history of the web.

              • +1

@Protractor: I don't think I'm going to take advice a bloke who doesn't understand how to use commas or hyphens.

  • Golden rule - competition is the consumer's friend. Undoubtedly this type of price disparity has been standard practise for lots of businesses over many years. As always, shop around.

    I think this is illegal.

  • What's the best way to compare prices without having to manually switch stores on bunnings website?

    • Multiple phone calls. (1 to each of several adjacent Bunnings stores) Or go for a drive to the stores (clipboard in hand) with a set list and do a survey and get back to the forum

Woolworths in Perth is the same. Where there isn’t a grocer nearby, bananas are $4.90 per kilo. Where there is nearby competition, they charge $4.50.

  • Question is, is the solid core door any good quality?

  • YouTube recommended me this video too.
