Dude, Jaguar is going all electric. Maybe you should change your name to something else

        • +1

Dude did you see Jaguar’s promo earlier this year… it was shite

It’s been a long time since they have been the benchmark of motoring excellence

It’s been a long time since they have been the benchmark of motoring excellence

Tell that to the dude who’s name reflects this not me.

Watch out everyone, we have a real man whose achievements include and are probably limited to…drinking full cream milk.

  • +37

7.2 seconds 0-100? Not exactly going to throw you back in your seat, unless the DSG decides to lurch.

Built in Spain, powered by VW, and backed by the thrilling suspense of what will fail next? It's like owning a time bomb with sporty seats. 💣💺

    • +8

Coupled with overpriced servicing because German parts

    • Yeah that's a luke warm hatch. They could have at least given it the GTI engine, pretty weak package.

      • +5

I think the next model up gets the GTI engine, then the one after that the R engine. This is the base Leon

      • It is the GTI engine, just with a smaller turbo. Not exactly a bad thing for around town since it will come on boost faster.

    • +1

agree with that all, plus old stock

      • +1

So it comes with flat-spotted tyres, half dead battery and a leaky water pump - just from sitting still. Can't wait to see what breaks once it starts moving. 💀🔧

    • Make VW Sexy Again

    • +9

Not long ago 7.2 was epically fast, now it’s the very base model and criticised. What a time we live in.

      • -4

        when was it epically fast?
I think 8sec was about par for a small-med passenger car in the 'good old days'
        nowadays every 50-60k EV has a sub 5sec 0-100

        • +1

A 90s Camry would do it in 10-11 seconds.

          • @Aureus: and a base Ford Falcon XT from early 2000s is 7-8sec

        • +1

          V6 commodores, e.g. Ecotec/early alloytec were like low 8s,

2 years depreciation should be about 30%.

    • +4

      They’re already 2 years old…

  • -1

    This or new Model Y?

    • +1

      Both

      • Model y. If you can do novated lease you will Be able to save some money as ev.

  • +13

My23? So nobody is buying it, why should you.

    • yep its 2years old already in your next buyers eyes. might as well get a MY25 demo/used car

      • +5

MY23 could be manufactured 2022 right

    • right? genuinely hilarious that they're still holding on to stock that old, and then this is their strategy that would surely get inventory moving.

    • Should knock off another $10k to be honest. Ridiculous they can ask the price they are for something that's been sitting untouched on a lot for that long.

  • +3

What makes this worth $5000 more than an overpriced Mazda 3 hatch? Besides Spanish build quality vs Japanese build quality

    • Perception of being different or more well off driving an Euro, since Mazda 3's are super common.

    • +2

What are you on about? The cheapest Mazda 3 with a 2.5L engine is $41,595 d/a (VIC).

  • +6

If Cupra released a model named Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez, I'd buy one.

    • +2

If it was also fitted out by the Chief metallurgist to King Charles V of Spain, I would also consider.

  • +2

I would highly recommend to join the Facebook owners group to hear real hand ownership experience if you're thinking about purchasing into the brand. Pleading the 5th Amendment (even though I'm not American) for anything further.

  • +1

If you plan to buy it in NSW, I strongly advise against it. Build quality is a hit and miss, like other VW group cars. But the really poor after-sales support from the dealer makes it an unpleasant experience. To me, it seems like the people at the dealership don't want to deal with Cupra at all. You would get subpar servicing and remediation of post-delivery faults.
I don't believe VW Australia is going to improve the experiences anytime soon. Otherwise, my next car would have been another Cupra

    • Is VW good for after sales service for any of its brands?

      • Not sure. Some people praise Zagame in Vic. That's about it.

  • with 1.4L Turbo

The brochure says it's 2.0L Turbo. Which one is correct?

    • +1

Unless the reviews at the time are also wrong, it has the 2.0L same as the VZ and VZx models but in a lower tune.
Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo runs the 1.5L 4-cylinder but not the Cupra to my knowledge.

    • 2 liter, the 1.4 is the much more expensive PHEV models.

    • Description now updated!

    • it's the 2.0L EA888 EVO4 engine with a smaller Turbo than on the Leon VZ/GTI and likely no forged crankshaft and some other goodies each step up in engine gets

  • +2

MY23 will depreciate by way more than $1,200 in year one so you'd need your head examined not to buy the MY24 if you were tempted by this deal.
MY26 models will be available shortly so MY23 is a very old "new" car.

    • -1

Its cheaper price will offset the depreciation. There will be no real difference in value b/w a 23 or 24. Odometer will make a bigger difference. The only time MY matter is when a significant update has occurred

      • +1

These are new cars so the odometer is 0 I hope. There absolutely is a difference in value between buying MY23 and MY24 new in Q3 2025 and its a lot more than $1k on a $40k car to me.

        • -1

It should have more than 0KM when you go to sell it. A low KM 23 will be worth more than a high km 24

          • +2

@Brick Tamland: This deal isnt comparing low km to high km its comparing 0km to 0km so you have to assume the same condition for resale, in which case there will be a lot more than $1k between them. Anyway my comment is about buying this deal not resale so I dont even know what you're on about.

            • -1

@jmc787: You said 'depreciate in one year', I am only commenting that the deprecation isnt necessarily tied to the MY

              • +1

@Brick Tamland: Yes last time i checked there was one year between MY23 and MY24

                • -1

@jmc787: How does it depreciate way more?

                  • +2

@Brick Tamland: Because every month a new car sits on the lot unsold it depreciates. An MY23 has sat around unsold a year longer than an MY24. I'm sorry if this concept is difficult for you to grasp.

                    • -1

@jmc787: Depreciation cost won’t crystallise until you sell it. And by then the difference could be marginal or nothing as other factors come into play like condition and even colour.

                      • +2

@Brick Tamland: Yes and Cupra are selling depreciated MY23 & MY24 cars in this deal. I'm done here, I know what the Brick part of your username refers to now.

                        • -1

@jmc787: Did you get your knowledge of depreciation from the toilet store?

                          • @Brick Tamland: Japanese toilets are very advanced in knowledge

                            • @freeb1e4me: They are cool.

On a side note. I can’t believe Iam getting downvoted on Ozbargain for suggesting the cheaper version of the same car is the best deal.

  • Born has been completely removed from their website. They struggled to clear 2023 stock for those too

    • IT's going to be BORN again apparently.

  • Odd how they show back of the car.

  • VW risks aside - Cupra's seem to be great used-car buys, but not new.

    • +1

Yea. VW risks aside - VWs seem to be a great used car purchase.

  • -4

just get a tsla or byd instead of rubbish like this.

    • +1

Where you seeing new $39,990 Tesla's?

  • -3

That particular VW engine they use which is famous for issues alone is reason to steer clear, unless you plan to sell before warranty runs out and looove depreciation.

    • +4

The EA888 engine is very reliable.

  • +2

If you're going to buy a Cupra, and you can afford it, the Formentor's are far far better than the Leon. I ended up buying the '22 Formentior Vz and it's been pretty awesome so far, almost no issues (some annoying niggles). I test drove the Leon at the same time and it didn't feel as good, the Formentor feels like a smaller but sportier SUV.

The other thing to note is that the Formentor V, which is the entry level ICE model, kinda sucks for driving, doesn't feel as smooth as fun.

    • +1

Formentor Vzx is fun to drive!

      • Agreed, test drove this version. Couldn't justify the $10k increase though.

        • Yeah, Cupras are for the most part are emotional buys. I do like their showy copper wheels and signs on the ground at night.

  • -3

The Chery Tiggo 7/8 PHEV is much better value

  • should be priced around 22k.

  • +3

LOL. Since when are nearly 3 year old cars new. If any car sits on the lot for three years and wasn’t able to be sold you have to ask yourself why?

Being a VAG is good start at an explanation . Too many VAG owners have been burnt in the past from piss poor to no after sales support. VAG the new old Jeep.

    • +1

They are new if they haven't been registered.

    • +1

" Too many VAG owners have been burnt in the past from piss poor to no after sales support"

Just you wait for the onslaught of Chinese brands, it will make VAG look like gods all of a sudden

      • given they are going to be mostly EVs, doubtful as there's not much to break

        • :) Wait and see I suppose. Those ipad screens on the middle surely won't be able to handle the Aussie sun.

  • It's quite a decent car especially at this price. Even the front wheel has good punch and fun to drive. Not as fun as a Cupra Formentor VZx (Golf GTI engine) though but then there is price difference.
