Looks like some B grade used Surface laptops going cheap on Ebay.

They are a little cheaper than the other deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/910212, but appear to be a lesser grade quality (Previous deal A Grade, these are B).

I ordered the grade A surface pro 7 from them last week which turns out to be a brick, it won’t turn on at all even after hours of charge. These people really have no quality control before sending out items. Also the screen pops out in the corner. I can’t imaging what a grade B unit will look like.

This is a different company. I hear your point, but I'm not sure it applies here yet.

They came with 12 months warranty yeah?

      • +4

It’s the same company where I bought my surface, will not trust them again.

        • -3

ah ok. Back to the 12 month warranty. Should be a simple replacement right?

          • @diggityfish: Through and flow…. At least 2 months of stress…. Email response very slow

        • Does holding down the Volume UP and Power for 40 seconds (and I mean until your fingers hurt) work? I know there's a series that the keyboards died on though and won't turn back on after turning off..

          • +1

@Chmmr: just tried that it doesn't work, will be sending it back for a full refund, thankfully eBay plus offer free return but what a waste of time

            • @ozvictor: Damn. We had to lodge so many with Microsoft because the keyboards died so when our end users turned them off, they couldn't them back on.

  • What year would these laptops be from?

  • ACT deals and @Calmago maybe should be banned from OzB, their quality control and transparency is bad (stories are in the comments of old deals).

A bit dramatic. Surely it is enough to warn people of the potential issues with used PCs?
(Also, battery replacement on Surface devices is difficult to impossible.)

Just get eBay plus, and easy free returns. If you need urgent delivery and high reliability, get new.

    my theory:
all these refub companies will not do proper checks due to high labour cost, they let the customers to do it for them.
meaning they will 101% happy to give full refund without question and take the unit back, because that is cheaper than paying 8 staffs at $30/hr to sit and checks each of unit at the warehouse. also without checks, they can sell them faster too - quick turn over. plus they buy these cheap as peanut. one or twenty write off doesnt matter. its the labour that eat their profit. not the refund, return fee, or ebay fee

I have ordered loads and loads of stuff from ACT. My kids school laptops are all old dells from ACT. We had a dodgy one a few years ago, as soon as I mentioned there was a problem I sent it straight back and got a new one immediately. Got an answer on it within 12 hours. I once built a computer room at an English school on the cheap with 24 ex lease ACT desktops. When I left 4 years later they were all still going.

yep people should look this as a gamble but without financial loss except disappointment and time to unpack and pack and go to post office

  • unrelated to this deal but I just received my replacement from ACT after my original was clearly a B-Grade unit and can say that physically the replacement is much nicer and more aligned with A-Grade. Minor scuffs that aren’t very noticeable from afar and a missing rubber foot but otherwise okay

However my replacement unit has very clearly not been cleaned at all. Not sure how common that is with ACT units as I didn’t look too closely under keys or anything for my original unit. Messaged customer support and they offered their apologies, also advised that I clean it with isopropyl and compressed air

    • did you reply who is going to pay my labour time $40/hr to do the cleaning, maybe send back again and get them to clean and resend.

they want customer to pay, then to do the check, the cleaning, the packing. probably we should go meet the boss and make him a coffee and massage his back

      • only $40 per hour?

        • +1

Its the minimum chips i mean minimum rate

  • Any idea on this VS the Dynabook deals?

  • +3

My B grade units arrived with only very light scratches on the bottom, and one with a couple of worn keys. Very happy for the price.

Any idea if you will bring back the deal OP? @diggityfish
