  • Seen more of these on ozbargain lately, what exactly can you do with these ?

    • This basic model allows you to use the internet on your TV, using your home wifi.

Play all the Android games like the Samsung Galaxy phone and other similar Android devices.

Install Android apps onto it and App-away on your tv.

Browse the net, watch some youtube, download off the net via your network to the device, take it to a friends house and watch/share a movie/show.

There is a newer model out, ~$60 which allows streaming from your PC hard drive to the TV.

Wireless mouse & dongle required (extra)

      • Have you heard of something called TVPad? Can this do what TVPad does? I was told that TVPad is some sort of android device too.

Most likely they got hold of the lower performance stock from the recent cancelled order of dealextreme.com…..

If you have a slightly older TV, which isn't internet enabled, or maybe like some Sony's it's internet features suck, then these Android TV devices are a useful add-on. You need to add wireless keyboard/mouse to make them work. All of these devices have WiFi only, but some pretend (for some unknown reason) to have a 3G chip - typically with a fake China Telecom SIM. This has the effect of making much of the software in the Play Store incompatible - it will refuse to install sine if thinks the 'phone' is in China.

I ended up reflashing mine with Ubuntu and using it to stream photo and movies from a DLNA-enabled file server.

Anyway, if you want to cheaply internet enable a TV, or build a better-than-usual photo frame using an old TV, and you don't mind playing around a bit, this is a good deal.

    • i would say a slightly older TV which isn't smart :P

      • $699 55" Kogan TV + $30 smarts :-)

  • Registered Airmail (AUD 0 & 7-15 business days. With tracking number)

  • It has 2 USB ports - 1 micro one USB 2 .. can it be powered by the USB 2.0 port - instead of the charger?
Have read some of these devices can do that.

    • dont know about this one. but mine can NOT.

  • Is this the same model as the previous deal of $20 from dealextream? I missed that one

If not, how does it compare to that one? Thanks!

    • no and no. the other was cheaper and faster.

  • Allwinner A10 is an out of date processor. Considering the price I wouldnt call it a deal.

    • What would you recommend for something around this price then?

    • about 20. maybe 25. maybe.

  • Just to clarify… I can plug a usb flash drive into this and play mkvs etc through a video app like mx player?

    • if it is a question, i can only answer half: yes you can plug a usb flash drive into this and play movies through a video app like mx player. it is what i am doing all the time before i bought a Roku2 and link it to Netflix.

      • what a faceless idiot negged me for trying to help others?

        • Probably the professionals. Lets see how many Up/Down votes this comment can get! (alwayseric I give you permission to neg this comment for the hell of it - ha)
