FYI delivery is about $20 to metro Vic.

Same price but $10 shipping here.
    https://www.devicedeal.com.au/ubiquiti-ucg-fiber-30w-desktop…

They also have the ever elusive unifi xg 7 access point in stock for $430. Considering it…

    • Have updated the post, I see $13 flat rate shipping at Device Deal rather than $10.

The Unifi XG 7 access point is indeed tempting…

      • What is so good about this XG AP?

I am going for a ceiling mounted U6 AP just cant decide between the Pro or the LR as I have 2 storeys and am trying to use only to APs if possible.

Wifi 7 for those who care more about LAN throughout speeds, at least for me

        • 2.5Gbps uplink won't be enough to max out WiFi 7 6GHz band 320MHz channel width in ideal condition (i.e. your WiFi 7 device is in the same room as the access point). That 2.5Gbps uplink is essentially the bottleneck. That's the main reason XG series APs are attractive.

However, the 6GHz range is too small so unless you are willing to get 4 or 5 of them in the house, you won't get decent 6GHz coverage for the whole house. The main usage with just 2 XG APs is put them in the 2 rooms which have all the high end devices (i.e. study or server room or maybe master bedroom) so those 2 rooms can get really high speed WiFi and assuming they are still reasonably well position, they will service 5GHz reasonably well.

      • Does the XG 7 have better range? I have seen some people comment they found it more reliable than U6 or U7 pro for range?

        • Don't expect U6 Pro, U7 Pro or U7 Pro XG to give you exceptional range. Spec wise, they are not at the level of E7 and U6 LR. You can read the comments below (about E7). U6 Pro, U7 Pro or U7 Pro XG, specs wise, don't deliver the same coverage as a lot of mainstream WiFi 6/7 routers.

Ideally, you add access points at places where you noticed the performance / latency starts to degrade (not up to your liking).

  • Nice deal. We need a deal on the E7.

      • That’s a killer price. Great find.

        • I can vouch for the hype. I setup an E7 to replace a U6 Pro (which had reluctantly replaced a U7 Pro that wasn't cutting it) 2 weeks ago, and the E7 has crazy good speeds at ranges the U6 Pro was struggling to even hold 5Ghz.

In a way though it is a bit of a shame we're having to resort to the Enterprise APs to get outstanding performance from Unifi now, I feel like back in the AC days this is what I used to expect from their Pro range.

          • @Arsenal: That’s great to read. As my U7 Pro Max has about 40% less usable range compared to my previous Asus GT-AC5300 (which was 8 years old…).

I agree with your second paragraph. It’s a bit disappointing.

  • I just need the tray UACC-SSD-Tray . Seem out of stock.

  • I wanted to get into the Ubiquity ecosystem when I moved into my new place 2 years ago so got some UX Express gateways.

They’re rubbish. They get so hot and the only way I can manage the network via the web interface is to reboot it, wait 10 minutes, point a fan at it. I had to attach a copper heatsink to the body just to passively cool them.

Anyway, is this thing much better. I plan on getting IP cameras, but I am ideally waiting for a deal on a UDM Pro SE.

If this thing is as good, and performs as well, then I might just get this and a PoE switch.

There is a fan inside UCG-Fiber. The CPU has more raw power than UDM SE (i.e. IDS/IPS: 5Gbps vs 3.5 Gbps). You also get 2.5Gbps LAN ports + 3 10Gbps ports (2 of them are SFP+, 1 is ethernet ready).

However, UCG-Fiber only supports about 4 x 4K cameras. While m.2 storage for cameras is nice, NVMe SSDs cost more and storage size option can't compare to HDD.

      • Thanks for your response- I’d want about 6 cameras, so the limitation is a shame. Although not all would have to be 4K

        • You probably can do 2 x 4K + 4 x 2K with UCG-Fiber. However, you need to think about the SSD storage. You need to decide whether you want to storage continuous recording or events only. For continuous and 4K, if you opt for a 2TB SSD storage, for those 2 x 4K cameras, you will probably only be able to store 7 days worth (assuming the rest of the cameras only store events only).

Some people tried 4TB NVMe SSD on it, but that still cannot compare to a large size HDD. I am guessing the camera limit for UCG-Fiber is due to the SSD size limit.

    • I have a UDM Pro SE. Been running great for years in a comms rack in a hot garage in summer. Picked it up for $750 back in the day. Although nowadays I'd say the Unifi Cloud Gateway Fibre looks like the sweet sweet spot if you don't mind losing NVR functionality at half the price

      • Thanks. Wish I jumped on it back then! I want NVR, so it’s the one for me I think

  • Hi all, any find for UDM-SE?

I love the fiber but I'm looking for rackmounted.

  • I found this too, worth linking as it makes a sweet setup: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/911569
