Agree, do not buy from their website, if you receive a bad unit or condition not as described, they won’t reimburse you with the return shipping cost.
OP username checks out
ACT still floggin' em
Hey @Calmago, fix your stockUnder ACL they have to cover return shipping costs.
Yeah just checked their grade rating system:
A - Scratches/dents/wear
B- Totally f**cked
That is the entire system lol
You've been kind with the grading…
Grade A is a lottery
Grade B…. Concur with youA - A laptop
B - Define “laptop”?
100% on this, got this couple of months ago as A but it looked as B- or worst with sticker marks and paint peels.
That has not been my experience. But it is a dice roll. Buy with eBay plus to avoid any hassles if you are not satisfied.
Agreed, dice roll. Got my HP Elite book a year ago from them and was in great condition, still going fine. Got lucky I suppose.
Yeah same, got a micro pc recently and it was like brand new. Paid for eBay plus just incase thou.
I bought the same lappy last deal.. yes while there were a few scratches it was what i expected for a refurb A Grade. These laptops are used, they are going to have some wear and never going to be immaculate. Stickers are removed since they get upgraded for use, can't do much about that. I cant fault the PC those, very good machine and battery is decent too. If you cant get over this then spend the extra 800$ and buy new unit.
Thanks Gavman, ACT needs customer like yourself.
ACT has some good deals but they will sell anything without a glaring defect as Grade A.
Its cheaper to deal with complaints than it is to actually refurbish machines. Their refurb process involves running a cloth over the machine to take the dust off & even that gets skipped sometimes.
Lucky you. I've got a grade A with full of dust and multiple defects before.
To be fair…. Their packaging is A grade. Once U open up from the packaging, it's just full of disappointment.
I got a couple of B-grade laptops, and they were great except battery below 80% as expected.
I sent one A-grade back as was incorrectly described. (ebay plus)
One PC with wifi disabled in BIOS, so they obviously don't test beyond imaging the hard drive.Otherwise the A-grade stuff has been fantastic, touch wood.
Selling this on their ebay store or not? Better check…
I was considering this company until i read their reviews on Google review and Product review, no bloody way.
You don't have to go that far, just read them here on previous deals
Got the 5420 (i7 1185G7, 512GB NVMe, 32GB, WIN 11 PRO) from another seller recently for $519 with eBay code. Not expect much. Visually with zero wear. Battery health is even 100%.
Do you have the item's link?
Got 2 of their previous dynabook deal. 1 came without backplate screws. The other has broken "i" key. Guess I was super unlucky.
Quite consistent with ACT quality
WOT HAPPENED TO THE $319 PRICE…just clicked the link; $539! Shove it!

Recommendations for a good cheap SSD upgrade for this model?
I DO NOT Recommend ACT Either. Purchased an AIO DELL PC from them a few months ago thru ebay using the discounts codes. Website description was Grade A Refurb but though the PC was packed really well, the screen had 2 cracks. 1 was a small crack in the glass and the other was a chip. I immediately sent them pictures but then no response for over 3 weeks even after regular emails to them. Finally I used Paypals purchase protection to raise my case and they immediately got in touch. They offered $30 and refused to work with any other solution. I looked at return costs and it was over $50 to send to NSW which they would not refund so I decided to accept the $30 after multiple exchanges asking for a higher refund. Will NO longer purchase from ACT.
Surprised that PayPal dispute unable to get U a full refund….
Similar experience that they do not reply to my issues, but when I tried PayPal dispute, I've got return and refund process organised, still have to wait for 3 weeks to get back my money. (Buy through eBay)why go through paypal if you bought on ebay? just go through Ebay return as INAD and they have to provide you the shipping label.
Don't you need eBay plus for no-hassle free returns?
no. if the item is not as described then you can return through ebay and the seller must accept the return. Ebay will provide the buyer with a postage label which will automatically be charged to the seller.
@Jaduqimon: Doesn't sound like "no hassle" to me. They don't just take your word for it.
What if it intermittently fails to wake from sleep, like I had?@bargaino: ebay will take your word for it. trust me. I am a seller on ebay and buyers can easily scam the seller by putting in a item not as described claim and I am forced to take the item back and pay for the return postage.
Just to counter the other grading arguments the laptop I got the other month I was happy with their grade A rating, it's I pretty good condition. Just luck of the draw it seems.
never bought, but simply from your comment it tells me that their grading lacks consistency. And that's not a good thing when we are making purchases before we actually see the goods and need to take their word for it.
Have to agree. Had a bad experience with ACT but got a refurb from Metrocom and it was excellent.
FYI we have a lot of Dell laptops at work and the 5420 has a large number of failures, keyboard faults, usb ports failing, wifi chips etc. This was not a good build quality model.
I would agree.
Wouldn't buy anything less than 7 series
I took a gamble on this one. I'd consider myself quite lucky overall as mine came with a fresh battery, but their "refurbishing" process seems to be somewhat lacking in care so the unit has a few scratches, paint chips, label residue, floppy hinges, dust, keyboard grime, balding touchpad, missing screw, speaker connector askew and liquid spill residue. Paired mine with some cheap AliExpress RAM to get dual-channel 32GB (lucked out as mine came with 1x16GB) and swap out the 256GB somewhat worn 2230 SSD for a hand-me-down 1TB 2280 one and it's doing quite well for me.

Their grade A is more like B or C, pretty low quality control. I would tightly recommend only ordering via eBay so it's free to return and you actually are able to.
It's a luck of the draw, not saying people haven't had good experience but there's pretty low quality machines too.
