20% off All Eurail Global Passes (Valid for Travel from September 1) @ Eurail

I've traveled Europe with Eurail passes several times now and swear by it being easily the best way to do the continent. Yes there are certain drawbacks such as reservation fees on certain routes but the positive FAR outweigh the negatives in my opinion, if for no other reason than giving you the freedom to decide where to go without worrying about cost and planning way in advance.

Deal is also going on at Klook with 5.5% Shopback. I have used klook in the past and they have worked just fine with no dramas.

I also definitely recommend the first class option if you're not sure. I took the plunge a couple of years ago and definitely found it worthwhile but people will have different opinions.

  • Is there a end limit on that activation, or is it just that it can't be used prior to September ?

      from https://www.eurail.com/en/terms-conditions/promo-terms-condi…

      Travel date restrictions

You may only start traveling with your Pass from September 1, 2025 to the last possible activation date, being 11 months from the date of your purchase.

    • According to Klook you have 334 days to activate it after purchase. Don't know if the same from ones bought from Eurail.

Edit: 11 months from date of purchase from Eurail as well

  • @mulimulix what did you find worthwhile about 1st class? was it just larger seats and a bit more room?

    • +5

It depends on the country but the seats are far more comfortable and the first class areas are usually far less crowded. Obviously that can vary wildly but in general they're less likely to be busy. In the UK most first class trips come with free food and drink as well. Another big advantage if you're a solo traveler, the first class are in a 2-1 config so you can sit by yourself. If you're on a budget then 2nd class is totally fine but if you don't mine spending a bit more then I recommend it for the comfort.

Considering the reasonable upcharge for 1st this seems worth it.

Many (not all) first class services are 2+1, though that doesn't guarantee you'll get the solo seat on all services, of course. First class can be full — and sometimes full of inconsiderate tourists — but at least there's more space for them to try shoving their numerous oversize suitcases. Nonetheless, it can mean that travelling enjoyably often still requires being one of the earlier people to board a carriage. Of course it depends on train, load, etc, but better to be mentally prepared.

Remember also that first class is primarily about long distance/"intercity" trains. Most countries do not have first class sections on regional trains, and when they do (e.g. Germany often) that is often a compartment or a small set of more spacious seating, and can sometimes even mean being forced into face-to-face seating rather more individual "airline row" seating. Danish railways (DSB) first class (including long-distance) is or used to be configured with only face-to-face.

      • Was travelling on DSB last year from Copenhagen to Aarhus & I'm pretty sure 1st class was face-to-face

We usually get the number of days within a month pass rather the full month pass. If you are travelling through Switzerland these passes can be really worthwhile. You could also look at the Swiss pass which has extra benefits for ferries, other transport options etc.

Check the validity times because an overnight trip is two days.

Booking seats is usually not an issue until it is. Even if you have a first class ticket you won’t be guaranteed a seat if you don’t pre book. Some train journeys, including the big tourist ones, require a booking which has a fee.

If we aren’t using passes we usually check something like Trainline to determine the best option for journeys and then book directly with the train lines.

  • Love this! Perfect timing…..
but the Global Pass is on the list for no cashback from Shopback, so not sure you'll get that extra 5.5% 🙁 https://www.klook.com/en-AU/no_applicable_activities_list_ne… (I've curious to know if anyone got paid cashback anyway)

    • +1

Oh no! I've gotten successful cashback from them twice in the past so this is either a new exclusion or they've paid it by mistake last time. How annoying.

      • I ordered anyway and it tracked! (…but given it's on that exclusion list, I'll take it as a bonus if it actually pays out)

  • Worth checking raileurope.com vs eurail.com —> the 6 day in 1 month, 1st class pass is $1866 at eurail.com and $1960.96 at raileurope.com. Also klook at $1882.48.
