650

Edit 22:45: Small out of stock at MYER, however few remaining of the larger size below.

For those that missed out on the AmazonAU deal that has now been marked out of stock.

Reposting results of my insulation testing:

Regarding insulation capabilities - overall not bad at all, on par with my Frank Green stainless steel insulated one and much better than similar plastic or glass reusable cups. All cups started with 250ml of 91˚C water within them, ambient temperature 23˚C (so differences may be even greater in colder environments).

Also available for $1 more on the Joseph Joseph website but $12 shipping for orders under $80 probably kills the deal.

Still looking for deals on dishwasher safe mugs… (though I've seen plenty go through the dishwasher fine).

So far I've only seen YETI insulated stuff advertised as dishwasher safe. But since one (fairly big name) brand can do it I don't see why there aren't more options :-/

    • especially if stainless steel!

For the lids, its typically due to seals and stuff eventually losing their shape etc, or poor selection of finishes. But a well designed lump of hard plastic should be dishwasher safe. In this case, the lid on the stainless model on Joseph Joseph's site says handwash only, but the lid for the plastic model is dishwasher safe for some reason despite looking identical. Personally - I'd say the lid on this model is almost certainly fine in the top shelf as its all hard plastic.

For the body, its because the dishwasher can damage the vacuum seal. The typical process that seals the two walls together is apparently usually prone to potentially leaking/being damaged under dishwasher conditions, letting water in. While really low quality vacuum flasks will be way more prone to this, it may just as much be a case of erring on caution or not testing it sufficiently to check. On the reverse, brands may slap dishwasher safe on when it isn't so they sell better. iirc, yeti bodies weren't originally dishwasher safe on the label, but they added it some years later. Anecdotally, they seem to hold up fine, but who knows, same could be true for this one.

Just buy the YETI. It truly is a lasts forever product.

And as a pro-tip for disgusting animals like me: when the tannins from your excessive tea consumption form a thick black crust that is highly resistant to conventional cleaning (including in a dishwasher), use sodium bicarbonate with boiling water and leave it overnight. Much easier to scrape out after that.

      • I think I'm physiologically unable to pay retail…

I'd even bite for one of those dodgy supermarket-esque bright sale stickers which are like "Save 6c".

And I'll remember the pro-tip. It will work well with mine of using drill brushes with a hex extension as cup/bottle brushes (on the drill).

Haha I had to do it after reading all those negative reviews on Amazon!

  • Is this as good seal as the Sttoke cups?

  • Thank you, got the larger one for $14. Recently received $10 gift card from Myer, happy days :)

Thanks Op. Got a larger one for $24 and click & collect availabe at a nearby store. Lucky day.

  • Missed out oh well

  • Isn't the polypropylene better for winter/freezing weather and $5 cheaper?

    • I guess it would depend on your priorities - the plastic one would probably be better at warming your hands, but you'll be drinking only a lukewarm coffee after a short while.

  • Amazon has them 50% off, just bought the blue one 454ml for $12, was $17 but as soon as I applied to cart it went to $12 with FREE shipping.

    • Just double check it's the stainless steel one, not the plastic version.

      • Stainless one isn’t dishwasher safe. I prefer the other version and it’s cheaper

Can anyone recommend a keep cup that won't load me up with microplastics like this one?

  • To be continued…
