Difference between OLED and a CRT in terms of response time are negligible at best.
Are you able to elaborate on this?
CRTs aren’t in production anymore, and the TVs and displays that are being made from them use old/recycled tubes or new tubes that aren’t as good as the originals.
No one gives a shit about CRT displays other than retro nerds and other niche interests.
I recently purchased the Kogan 49 ultra wide and find the text crisp and easy to read. I think the eye strain is also less especially in a dark room. Also the response times are great, not noticing any differences compared to my last gaming LCD panel. I probably wouldn’t go back to non OLED now
im really interested in your experience with Kogan OLED, is it clear any bugs, seen a lot of complaints about it monitors arriving faulty etc. Text is a big thing for me is it noticeable with Pixels per inch?
I’m coming from a Dell S2721DGF and so far I’ve been really happy with the performance of the Kogan OLED. Clarity of text is really nice and it’s been a great all-rounder. I’ve also heard Kogan uses Samsung panels for their OLEDS, although I’m unsure of this particular model. I’ve not experienced any bugs so far, the menu is simple and clean.
Text quality is perfect on 27" 4k
It's also got, better blacks, brightness, the option of HDR and way way way way more contrast. Sample and hold blur is the issue with an OLED below 1000Hz (or 500Hz BFI, which will likely only become available with 1000Hz OLED).
Response times are snappy, but now you're still getting motion blur from the image being held for the entire refresh cycle, which is still too slow for how the human eye perceives motion. CRT was better in this sense because it flickered (plus insane rise and fall times, though also the odd x-ray), but it largely stopped competing for motion clarity at 240Hz OLED.
Anyway, this deal sucks… it's not cheap or particularly good.
True. You have a good head on your shoulders. 8 people got their panties in a twist. But the comment was intentionally made to get plenty panty twisting action and it worked.
Just threw my Samsung CRG9 49 inch monitor in the bin at the tip, the backlight turns on but no picture.
There's plenty reports on Reddit and YouTube of people having similar issues with screens built around same time.
Sounds like planned obsolescence to me, where entire batches of product starts dying after the 3 year warranty period.
Anyways, I won't be buying another Samsung product again. Have had a terrible experience with their fridge in the past and now, the 49 inch gaming monitor. Not to mention their customer service was one of the worst I've ever experienced.
As always .. YMMV ! 😉
Edit : mine was from 2020 iirc and before anyone jumps up at me regarding ACL yes I'm aware, i can't be fcked.
Bro you is rich. I would have dumpster dived and tried to fix the display board circuit and then list it on Facebook for $999.99 ‘original owner, no receipt, best price bro’.
I'm time poor, don't have the spare time or money to sink to ship this big screen to get it fixed. Not to mention parts + diagnosis + fixing costs?
However, don't stress bro. There is a chance plenty of others might be doing the same thing, ie tossing a broken big paperweight, judging by the amount of complaints on Reddit..
You'll possibly have plenty of opportunities snagging one by dumpster diving if you've got that spare time on hand. I don't.
Done the same few months ago, mine wasn't even broken, just had some screen burn on the right edge of the monitor. I'm just that traumatized by FB marketplace that I'd rather just throw my old stuff than deal with the people on that.
'Samsung' and 'Customer service' never go in one sentence.
What if you put "is bad" at the end?
On my 4th 49" Samsung screen, first had a dead pixel, second started getting a yellow cast in the middle, the third had a thick piece of fabric under the panel, 4th is perfect so far, all under warranty lol.
Just the tip
I leave my old monitors and TVs out by the kerbside on a day of good weather. Someone will come and pick it up as they know how to repair it.
Yeah, I've heard there's a design fault with these (G91SD) - the backlight doesn't work on any of them!
I assume this is a joke, but it's going to go over a lot of people's heads: because it's OLED, the panel is its own backlight.
mine was from 2020 iirc and before anyone jumps up at me regarding ACL yes I'm aware
Well that's on you then.
Genuine question… How does one even have the space to fit the width
A big monitor arm and at least 1.3m of wiggle room.
That's what she said.
they find a way 😏
I have a desk
Samsung web store $1499 at the moment. You can get a 10% discount code through chat, plus app store 5% for frist purchase, plus $50 end of financial year code, plus $100 old monitor trade in. Works out cheaper than JB.
How??
Anyone use this for flight sim hows it run/look? 😏
Triple 55" would be better. Some guy on FB posted his flight Sim with triple vertical 55" and it looks marvelous.
I have the MSI version of this monitor. I use it for both productivity and gaming, so good. I don’t think this one comes with a KVM though, which is why I opted for the MSI version.
Wow I didn't know this monitor existed - as I had been looking for one that supports USB-C a while ago and none of the Samsung ones do. This one looks good, although a quick search has yielded some users reporting the OLED Care related issues (https://www.reddit.com/r/MSI_Gaming/comments/1bt9bxt/msi_ole… and https://www.reddit.com/r/OLED_Gaming/comments/1b1y3cu/msi_ol…). What's your experience like?
So I do get the pop up occasionally asking me to start the panel care thing, this really only comes up after a long day of working. I’ve got it set to run it when the computer turns off so mostly it does it on its own. If it happens to pop up I just click cancel then it runs when I turn the pc off. It’s very mildly annoying when it happens but it’s just a pop up, I haven’t seen it for a couple of weeks. I mean it is what it is, I’d rather that then burn in. Certainly not annoying enough to change my decision in buying it put it that way.
Great, thank you!
Sounds like this one is a dud. Any recommended alternatives? Still tossing up between a 49” or two 27” for work and gaming.
I got 2 x 27" recently for $394 from OW, perfectly happy with them & will probably run them for 4 years like the 24" they replaced.
JB's "Specs" dropdown lists the wrong resolution "5120 x 2880"
Someone must be new to how vertical resolutions work on these ultrawides..
Samsung do have 5K monitors of that res, and even 8K ultrawides… whoever entered the details probably got confused amongst all the annual model updates.
The body of your post is too short. You need more words.
How about posting (a link to) the spec's? It's not that hard.

Does this monitor have built-in KVM or network KVM software like the Dell?
no
This is last year's model, and is available even cheaper via Samsung when you stack the usual discounts, except there is no trade-in offer.
Meanwhile, this year's model - which is 40% brighter - is available for $1199 delivered on sale via Samsung, and has trade-in bonuses, so it can be stacked to a price of $939.
Why anyone would be buying this older model from JB is beyond me.
If you want to spend $1399 and have an interest in ultrawides, the 2025 240Hz version with the - presumably updated - matte finish that helps enormously in bright room or indoor daytime conditions with little compromise compared to LG equivalents, is $1367 via the same deal stacks.
Unfortunately it seems Samsung have mislabelled the G91F as being a new OLED model, it's actually VA, and the latest 49" 144Hz ultrawide OLED model is the G91SD and priced at $1499.
With the available discounts ($50 EOFY, 15% loyalty), it would be about $1170 if you can put them altogether. Given the discounts are boosted at the moment, the G93SD would $1250 (includes $100 trade-in bonus), so is the better buy.
Do you know if the G91F is similar to the 49" Neo (S49AG95)? or closer to the OG G9 model (C49G95T), or a completely different variant all together?
I know the 49" Neo was discontinued and replaced with a bigger 57" Neo
I doubt it's anything like the Neo, though I expect something along the lines of a 32 or even 64 zone back light array.
Not worth it in the OLED era.
@jasswolf: Thanks.
I reached out to Samsung's Chat and they responded with the following - it seems to be a new VA monitor released this year. Hopefully this helps with anyone else looking into these monitors
The Odyssey G91F is one of Samsung’s newest additions to its high-end gaming monitor lineup, and it definitely sits in the same league as the 49" Neo series.
The G91F is a 49-inch ultra-wide curved gaming monitor with a Dual QHD resolution (5120x1440) and a 32:9 aspect ratio, essentially giving you the screen real estate of two 27-inch monitors side by side2. It features a 1000R curvature, 144Hz refresh rate, 1ms response time, and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, making it a powerhouse for immersive gaming and multitasking3.
It’s particularly well-suited for racing and flight simulators, thanks to its panoramic field of view and vibrant HDR600-certified visuals. While it shares many specs with the Neo G9, the G91F appears to be a 2025 refresh or variant with a sleek design and updated internals, though it lacks built-in speakers—a trade-off for its slim profile.
@DevlicK: The Neo is a miniLED-backlit panel with a huge brightness uptick. HDR600 suggests that the backlight isn't particularly dense, so I don't see it as anything close to the Neo in that respect, and then there's also the slower refresh rate.
@jasswolf: Yeah agreed. Just sharing what was relayed to me by Samsung chat. Though it does seem to be their 'new' non-OLED model.
91F is not an OLED, it's VA and inferior to the OLED 49s.
Yes, I made a follow-up comment yesterday that said as much. It's right there.
Paid $1212 for g93sd on samsung website
how? which ones are stackable?
10% off, samsung pay another 10% off. $29.84 samsung rewards. I found one dead pixel, they replaced the whole panel and refunded me another 10% of the check out price. It was April this year.
I didn't realise you get 10% with samsung pay! Good to know
Kogan sell a nice clone 49" OLED for around $1000 and a VA version (pre-order) for $799 ~ id go the OLED any day!
