    Still seems over priced.

    • +76

can't pay me to watch sky news.

      • -1

Prefer being Frankensteined that might include testicle and penile transplantations into the frontal cortex etc.

        • +11

It's a really weird story of what's happened to the network -

          https://www.smh.com.au/business/companies/how-sky-news-s-us-…

basically seems intended to game youtube and rack up subs from american trump fans, but somehow pitches itself locally to the LNP as some massive, millions strong australian force. Which it ain't. And believing it had anything like its finger on the pulse of australia rather than a foreign far right fringe seems to have led the party into an all time lubeless pounding.

          • +1

            @stimutacs: I love that quote…. Gold!

believing it had anything like its finger on the pulse of australia rather than a foreign far right fringe seems to have led the party into an all time lubeless pounding.

            Hahaha.

            So good!

      • +1

But they complain long and loud enough about the ABC getting Gov funding. ABC really saved Australia from becoming a total US cesspool…

    • +71

Paul Murray wouldn't know if his own hindquarters were on fire. The entire Sky News Australia is a farce and the least factual source of information in the country.

      • +4

Sky News after dark. I once thought Paul Murray was a ignorant-arrogant brain-washed buffoon until I saw Rowan Dean & co. They're next level.

    • +3

May be get a hint what most sane Western countries wanted and have. No one is saying wish they ended up like the US.

    • +1

Uh oh, looks like we got a Sky News victim here. Sorry for what you’re going through mate :(

  • +69

    That’s one cheap lobotomy.

  • +54

    Free cancer

    • +2

The ozbargain way is to claim anything free!

  • +41

News? Ha ha ha. Thanks. I needed a good laugh.

slightly better than abc????? i mean yeah in the same way having herpes is better than not having herpes.. wtf OP

Also doesnt work on my Samsung, only have 3 digits for channels. Guess it has to be newer.

    • +21

Yeah there is something unsettling about OPs phrasing that "probably slightly better than ABC" like he's had a considered contemplation as to the pluses and minuses of both platforms.

Sky is there for people who want "news" that doesn't trigger their conservative social bias and exists to help get liberals and nationals elected.

      • +2

The reference to Sky being probably better than ABC is obvious trolling.

In any case just because something is free it doesn't make it a bargain. Free brain rot ≠ a bargain.

  • +8

    Fake news?

    • +5

Calling it news is a generous overstatement

  • +4

What’s next? Oxygen free to breathe via air?

    • +17

The news channel every real Australian that cares about their country should be watching

      Agreed 100%
At least once, but probably not more than that.
It gives an incredible insight into some of the absolute batsh&t thoughts and views/media that some people actively consume

How anyone can watch 5 mins of Rita on Lefties Losing It and not wonder what's wrong with peope that actively watch this content is beyond me

    • Ok, so who is responsible for kur current national debt?

Now look here and answer again.

    • -1

      You crazy monster!

Who needs their daily dose of self righteousness ruined by this?!

  • +9

good - I'll stay away from LG/Samsung TVs then

  • +31

    Sky is cancer

  • +29

Sky is crazier than the USA's Fox News. Our Sky News is actually worldwide infamous for being batshit insane.

  • +39

Not everyone’s cup of tea perhaps, but certainly most people’s bowl of shit.

  • +21

    Sponsored by the liberal party

    • Really? I thought they were sponsored by crazies? Last I remember seeing was them giving positive press for "Trumpets of liberty" or whatever clives new party is/was.

Regardless if you support Labor, liberal, or heaven forbid be sensible and vote on good policy…i thought you'd still call sky a comedy show?

  • +20

    Better than abc hahahahah

  • -1

Is this better than the Courier Mail?

  • +6

Even if the watch was a giveaway, it'd be a bad deal unless the Sky app can be deleted.

  • +18

We have all paid for Sky, look at all the damage done by Murdock, what a disgrace.

    • you talking mentally or monetary? They don't pay company tax, but receive taxpayer money, so are actually are funding them.

  • It is already free to watch on their website, youtube and in regional locations.

    • How do you watch the steaming channel on their website and YouTube?

  • +11

And they say tik tok is brain rot…

  • +7

Oh no I just bought a new LG. Wish I had seen this deal earlier

    • +9

You will notice that this bargain was posted in "Entertainment" which is the correct category for Sky / Fox News. It's not serious news, it's brain-rot

      • +1

Absolutely! When you've set your life to 'stunned' and forgotten to hit reset.

    • +11

You don't have to be a "lefty" to realise that SkyNews is absolute dog shit.
      It's not news, it's "opinions"
They do not do actual journalism, they allow Murdoch's mouthpieces to repeat his agenda.

Far out, even Labor isn't left anymore…
How brainwashed do you have to be to call anyone who doesn't agree with you "left"?

    • +2

I dunno, I'm centre, but right leaning if say, and Sky is pretty much just a sitcom if you ask me.

  • +23

Not everything free is a bargain.

    • +5

Put this on when a visitor comes and you don’t want them to stay longer.

      • +4

Or, if they do - make yourself scarce.

  • +2

'probably' slightly better than ABC that you actually pay for

Probably worse, but we're starting off from a pretty low bar with Australian media

  • Not a deal as this is broadcast free to air in the regions that actually want to watch it

  • +14

    Disinformation network, psychosocial risk.

    This garbage should be banned.

    • -3

      email the Esafety commissioner

  • +2

Having grown up watching sky news in the Uk i couldnt believe how biased/once sided sky news Australia was 😄

  • +1

    This isn’t a bargain

  • +2

but 'probably' slightly better than ABC

    tomhardythatsbait.gif

  • +6

I dont consider this company a trusted source of balanced impartial news. They clearly support the liberal party's right wing concervative policies and push opinion pieces as "news".

  • -4

I love sky news, seems to be most accurate info for middle east war. Every other network is tippy toeing

  • +5

slightly better than ABC that you actually pay for…

    Lol.

    No

  • +5

Is there any actual news, or is it all made up conspiracy theories?

    • +1

Honestly if you watch the daily news broadcasts in the daylight hours and go in knowing how to pick up on biases, you may watch something you think is actually fair news.

Just stay away from Outsiders, After Dark, Paul Murray and anything with Rita Panahi.

  • +3

    yay free propaganda

  • +3

Lol seriously. No deal as quality is poor.

    • -6

Get a better internet cos it streams in 4k

      • +2

He didn't say the picture resolution was low.

It's the content that's badly lacking in quality.

      • Should stream in SD then to match their content

  • +2

    I’ll stick with hate media.

  • +13

Calling skynews "news" is just as accurate as calling canned dog food "fine dining experience"

  • I'll just leave this here, you're welcome: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDcmNnVJ3xQ

    • Where'd you get that chee, Danny?

  • -7

Not of interest but i'll upvote for the principle of it. It's a very sad reflection on the levels of respect and consideration we have for each other, let alone what it means for broader society, when something as trivial as what slant on current events provokes people. Having a kid has really made me think about the direction we are heading compared to when i grew up. It's not great.

    • +18

Have you ever actually watched Sky News? It’s not news. Its only purpose is to fuel culture wars and spark outrage. Exactly the things that you’re claiming to be against.

      • -3

Yes, i make a point to watch an array of news these days. I agree there is no shortage of attention seekers and political zealots on Sky, but so what? They are obvious and easy to completely ignore the intentional trigger baiting nuts like Rowan whatever his name is. I'll have some of the other stuff on in the background once every few weeks i'd guess. The concious choice of diversfying how i ingest news has been one of the best things i have done i years. Opened my eyes to alot more considerations and contradicting facts than when i was simply glued to 1 TV channel and 1 or 2 websites.

If anyone takes any news source they ingest as gospel they are a fool. I grew up glued to ABC most of my life, and still consider it an invaluable asset. But it is politicised and selective in how it reports these days just as all the commercial news. It is what it is. Discerning fact from opinion, being open or closed minded, they are both choices. And they are choices we should safeguard for our kids. If we can't agree on that the game is already over.

        • +9

Firstly, the argument “just ignore the zealots on Sky, the rest is fine” holds absolutely no water. The fact that they are not just willing to give them a platform to spew their hate, racism and bigotry, but they actively promote the segments, really tells you everything you need to know about the network.

And the ABC always ranks the highest in trusted news sources (as voted by Australians). If you would like to learn more, I recommend reading the 2025 Reuters Digital News Report:
          https://reutersinstitute.politics.ox.ac.uk/digital-news-repo…

        • -1

the problem with Murdoch media in particular, but many others including the ABC is they pass off opinion as news & fact.

before 5pm, SkyNews is actually quite decent.

      • -2

Does "fuel culture wars" just mean 'provide an opposite take to the ABC and ALP's Socialist Left faction'?

    • +3

There should be a royal commission about Murdoch, and SkyNews should actually not be allowed to broadcast in Australia.

They're not "news" and I am not against freedom of speech.

But they have a responsibility towards their audience, and they willingly lie and deceive the Australian public.

      • -4

Sounds like you're talking about the ABC here mate. At least Sky is free. The ABC spits out garbage propaganda and taxpayers are paying millions for it.

        • So Sky spits out free garbage propaganda.

          Thanks for the confirmation.

        • Got any example of the ABC's garbage propaganda?

Or did Chris Kenny told you the ABC was shit?

    • +1

I occasionally watch it to be entertained by the constant misrepresentations and hysterical rants about 'leftism'.
If it wasn't for Sky News, I would have been fooled into believing that there's a genocide going on right now in Gaza.

    • +2

      It ain’t trivial.

  • +6

I'm confused because by this logic we can post deals that Channel 7 news is free to watch on all Google Home products, Samsung TV's & LG TV's

  • +9

Probably worth a neg in its own right. But to spread FUD like “it’s probably better than ABC”? Really?

    https://www.scimagomedia.com/rankings.php?country=Australia

    • Is sky news even on that list? I couldn't find it to verify how bad it is

    • So good!

      Mind virus is so powerful!

  • +8

The intolerance in the comments. Ironic.😄

    • +3

Aww people are intolerant of ideology based off intolerance. Poor little bubbas of far right, only want safe heaven to practice racism, hate speech, bigotry, supremacy, and to target asians and immigrants for their problems. Why can’t people let them 🙃

      • -2

An ideologue with an opinion. How naive and quaint.

        • +1

          Am I wrong though?

May be take a time machine to early 1900s if this is what you want. We are in 2025 now

Word of advice… when picking some media, consider picking media that's inherently set up in a pluricentric way. By that I mean geographical diversity, diversity in the newsrooms and boardrooms and set up from the bottom up.

Case in point, you look at Nine or the ABC, and the former has ownership in newspapers of repute and both of them have geographically diverse stations with editorial control far from fully centralised. Similarly the BBC has 12 regions in England alone that even though they don't compete they still compete as it were. DW employs 4000 people of 140 nationalities according to Wikipedia, and provides services in about 30 different languages. SBS is much the same on a smaller scale. The AP has 235 news bureaux across the world, in 94 countries.

Now what's Sky News Australia in comparison? What. Does. It. Represent? Who is behind it?

It is structurally a vanishingly tiny fleck in terms of geographical diversity, in diversity of its sources, its points of view (because it doesn't have the diversity of people), its editorial control is in one place with vanishingly little accountability.

That's why I just can't get why anyone feels like their lives would be enriched by Sky News Australia. Sure, it might feel good to be in a tiny echo chamber, to have what you think are your opinions shouted back at you… but it feels like empty calories, like trying to grasp at the fog and realising there's so vanishingly little to hold on to, to nourish yourself.

    • Is Love Island pluricentric enough? I'm pretty sure they work from the bottom up at times?

    • -1

This is some crazy mental gymnastics to justify the media you consoom vs others.

  • Youtube is free
