So, this might be a contentious one, but I figure there's probably a few electricians on this site (Electricians often being a cheap-price-loving breed)

This is electrical cable for things like wiring up power points or air conditioners. Comes in a 100m roll. Usual price is ~$200, but the coupon code takes $15 off.

The important part is its eligible for the upsized shopback cashback that expires tonight. If you use Applepay as well, it brings the total price post-cashback down to ~$150. Shipping is dependent on location. I paid ~$30 to melbourne, but being located in Sydney I would expect a Sydney address to be half that.

I bought one this morning, and it's tracked already.

The store is MJS, so they sell all manner of electrical trade gear. It makes it a good time to stock up on various sundries.

Thats around normal price for 2.5mm at your local trade store?

Perfect timing, i'm about to wire up a heap of powerpoints in the shed and then get a sparky to sign it off

    • Sparky's will do this?

      • My mate rewired an entire house and had a sparky come out and.do exacrly that, it was an older hoise he was renovating and "flipping".

        • How'd your mate know he was doing the work to code when there's no DIY books in OZ (unlike the UK, New Zealand and US)?
And as most sparkys appear to judge us a too dumb to even fit a new plug on a bedside lamp.

  • In Australia, are there many types of electrical wire?
For example, this one https://www.mydeal.com.au/2-5mm-twin-and-earth-per-mtr-54566… is being sold per metre at $2.62, which I would consider much cheaper than the one in OP's at $188/100m.

How exactly do you math that 2.62 a metre is cheaper than 1.88 a metre lmao

      • Only buying 1m perhaps???

        • Lol maybe, that's obviously not who this is targeted at though

        • I've even other sellers selling 20m for about 1/2 the price of 100m. Selling per m at the price of less than 0.015 the price of 100m is way too cheap.

@Averell: Your logic is weird, it's more expensive per metre overall. That's it. Lol

For electrical cable, stick with the major brands from your local trade shop, even if they cost a bit more. And the only people who can legally deal with 240 volt cable are licensed electricians…

The builder for our recent renovation used Electra.
The OP one says "either Electra, Olex, Prysmian, Bambach, QCE".
I think Bunnings is selling Olex.

  • Where's this one made? Buy Australian. Terrible situation some ten years ago with overseas sourced electrical cable with deterioration of the insulation after a time…requiring complete removal and replacement

    • Green shit keeps oozing out of ours. This what you are talking about?

Cleaning the junction boxes all the time, otherwise lights stop working, door bell taps out etc.

      • Call licensed ghostbusters.

I dont think any electrician will want to wait postage for a drum of 2.5 TPS for a job. Especially when local pick up @ tradezone is $179 inc GST.

  • How many sustained amps max can 2.5 handle? 15A?

    • Wire it up to a 32A circuit then see how many 2400w heaters you can plug in until it melts.

    • Depends on your installation conditions I'd consider contacting your local electrician for an assessment of the cable route to determine CCC. Refer to AS3008

      • If people need to ask, they shouldnt be touching it.

Unethical protip. If you need a few metres Just go to the nearest construction site and just rip it out the wall

Don't forget to help yourself to the complimentary PTZ security camera on the way out, cashies pay up big for them.

  • Any outdoor cable?

  • Anyone seen a good price for cable for an outdoor kitchen (2700w oven)?

Thinking 4mm - 35m run from the board.
