boost is always worth it:) its a good service.

    • +6

I've been with them for 2 years, but somehow the coverage started to be worse over time, not sure why exactly
There are some real signal gaps around the places where I personally spend regular time :(

      • +1

        Similar experience.
I travel a lot in the outer suburbs of Sydney and both Boost (full Telstra Network) and Woolworth's mobile (Telstra Wholesale Mobile Network) used to be good but lately have patchy and slow (data) reception in some areas, while Optus seems to have no issues in the same areas.

      • +1

Same here. I used to put up with Boost's crappy data reception in Melbourne CBD because I visit some places in regional VIC regularly and Telstra was the only operator that provided service. But that's no longer the case now, I tested Vodafone and their service was great.

I just switched to a 12-month Voda SIM.

        • +1

Yes I my whole family is with boost for years and the covrage is terrible even in some pockets of Melbourne metro.
Supposed to be on Telstra 5G retail network.
I am going to try telstra network directly to make a comparison.

        • +1

ooft not sure if voda is gonna be much better than Boost (Telstra network).

Edit: So this is getting downvoted, so i guess voda actually has good service now? was not aware

          • @ViperAMD: My experience with Vodafone in my area of Adelaide has been better than Telstra in most instances.
As soon as I venture out of the greater city area, that obviously changes.

      • On Telstra, and I'm facing the same issues in Metro Mel.

        • +2

I suspect they have botched the 3G -> 5G transition in some technical way.

          • @DingoBlue: I don't think capacity has kept up with demand. It's pretty bad compared to 10 years ago when it was clearly the superior mobile network.

        • @the4thzodiac
          I heard the same.
So every network is screwed in one way or the other..
Why would telsta be paid more as a premium network?.

      • Yes, I've been with them for years, service changed after telstra took over and started changing plans. However, much better than alternatives I've tried…
Service has been better this year though.

      • I live in Sydney's inner west and been bouncing between Optus and Boost

Optus is better in some areas, Boost is better in others

        Unfortunately ya just can't win

    • of course, they are on the best network, telstra.

optus is meh, and i don't even know how vodafone is still in business.

      • Agreed, Optus and Vodafone are total trash in Brisbane suburbs

      • Voda advertise that they expanded coverage by 50%
not sure if this is a marketing BS or they really did it. But I found it being better recently for my location (I used Voda many years ago and it was awful indeed)

        • not sure where you live but I have found switch to voda very pleasant, it seems to give me coverage in areas that telstra didn't have which is odd to say since telstra like to spin there BS that they have the most coverage in some places that is true in other places it is not.

          • @kungfuman: Voda international roaming is good if you are happy with $5/day.

      • Telstra arent' the best network, they just have good coverage doesnt' mean there network is good. if you have a problem of any kind good luck with that. lol

  • +3

Agree, its because people buy into their shit of full mobile coverage, plus the cap speeds, overcrowded cells in towers etc adding to the over subscribing of the people into these coverage areas.

    • +2

Yep this exactly. Inside Sunshine Plaza at Maroochydore you get the full 5 bars of Telstra 5G but it’s actually soooo slow that it’s unusable🤬

  • Cashback is from Topcashback if anyone is interested. I bought yesterday and tracked in 10 mins. Boost service has been great for me both in regional and metro areas. I've tried different telcos, and only Telstra network seems to be strong in most places. Optus just screamed for air when I came in a train station 😫

  • The only thing is the data is too less per month

    • +1

But you are only paying around $20/ month or $25 at full price.
      Also gives generous international inclusions.

    • I don't understand how anyone needs more than 10-20GB of data per month (this plan provides ~25GB/month).

      • +2

People who spend 2-3 hours on public transport watching 4k Po*nhub

        • +2

They shoud prepare for nextday by downloading with WiFi.
No wonder we can't even check an email or KK gossip on moile network.

  • +3

Damn I get 'SORRY, SOMETHING WENT WRONG'. I think because i'm an existing customer, they must link it with phone number, address, drivers license or a combination of those data points. Previously you could just change the address and that would be enough but I don't think that works anymore.

    • Yeah it does say for new activations only. I'm sure the phone number will be the critical one if you're already with BOOST.

    • +1

Some suggestions have been trying debit card instead of credit card, passport instead of drivers licence, and manual address entry.

To use this SIM starter pack, I've read that you need to port out to a cheap SIM (e.g. Aldi $5) before activating this SIM pack and porting back in.

      • Yeah ive been on boost for ages and i've ported to Lebara with a cheap esim then port back into Boost.

Thanks will try the passport and different card. I did manual address entry and formatted my address a bit weird but it still got flagged.

        • +1

I successfully ordered after the "Something went wrong" error.
I entered manual address, used passport, and used a visa debit card instead of my credit card.

      • With Boost, tried manual address entry, passport instead of drivers licence, and a different credit card (hoping to get credit card reward points) - didn't work, got "Sorry, Something went wrong". Tried again with manual address and passport but using debit mastercard, worked.

    • Can I purchase with using my wife's details and then activate using mine?

    • What exactly is the problem? Does it only for sim purchase but you chose recharge? Or is it that you already have a boost account?

  • +2

    Facing technical issues on Cashrewards

    • Same. And I'm not on Boost currently. Says technical issues and to try again later…

    • +1

Try a different cards. Same with me with topcashback aswell.

But finally worked with shopback with a different card

  • Would this work for a returning customer? My current boost plan expires on the 27th of July.

EDIT: it does say for new activation but in theory if mine expired 27th July and I order on the 30th June it wouldn't be "active"

    • +1

I want to know this as well. It's a hassle to port out and port in again.

    • +1

just port out with $2 Telstra SIM then port back in, can all be done in an arvo

    • +1

You have to port out and back if you want to keep your number.

  • Does anyone have experience with porting out to another network and back in for the new customer discounts? Does that still work?
Can I do this every year?
What network is easiest/cheapest to port out to temporarily?

    • just port out with $2 Telstra SIM then port back in, can all be done in an arvo

    • I did back in march, used a $2 sim maybe Optus/Amaysim. I don't think it really matters anymore.

      • Where do you buy a $2 sim card?

  • How can i claim the $50 please . If any one can help .

  • How many $50 Cashrewards can you claim in separate transactions. Is it just one? As I was hoping to get a few for family members.

    • One per transaction, just do multiple transactions via Cashrewards.

      • Cheers ;)

  • is there any data only sim options yet?

  • Good timing, need to switch from Telstra who's jacked their cheapest sim only plan to $70 per month.

  • Cheers mate… got it and it tracked the cash back.

    • Make sure you activate in 30 days.
This is a pain as you can't buy and keep it for next recharg.

      • Yeah… I generally switch to TPG for a few months in between.

  • +1

Can I buy this if I am currently with Boost ? Or just if switching from another provider?

Edit: read comments and most recommend port out and port back in

    • +1

That is the only way now. Before Boost CS used to swap the SIM in their system.
      Not anymore.
SIM Swap is allowed if you transferring the SIM to another person.
Also Boost will not roll over Data or other inclusions on long expiry plans.

  • Damn, I just brought an Aldi special buys $28 5G 32gb+20gb activation starter pack. My yearly boost is running out and 260gb wasn't enough. I was hoping my further monthly top ups are $28 for 32gb with aldi.

  • I need the simcard quite soon as I need to travel.

Can I purchase this, port out and then buy a sim from Woolies to port back in if this sim doesn't arrive in time?
