Great price for an RTX 4060, good find OP!

If I wasn't so used to MacOS, I would've purchased this without hesitation. My cousin has a Victus and is very happy it.

    • +3

And about 1/10th of the battery life 🙂

      • +1

Yep, the only downsides he mentioned are terrible battery life and brightness. I suppose it depends what you need it for really. He always has it plugged it and uses it indoors.

      • +5

        completely different use case

        • Yep exactly :)

  • +2

Thank you, I have the same issue. I use a M4 Mac Mini and just can’t get myself to move to Windows, so ended up getting a PS5 for gaming.

    • Why not both?

  • +1

Nice value similar specs to the 2k HP omen deal

Have HP improved their quality over these last years? Remember buying some hp laptops many years ago and they all failed within 3 years. Someone told me their quality control was bare minimum.

    • +4

Same here, those pavilion series didnt last long for me, since then haven't touched hp

      • Yeah, i moved to dell for a few years, and now my last 3 laptops have been Lenovo yogas, but was curious about hp again after seeing this deal

        • How did you find the Yogas? You reckon they last up to 5 years?

          • +2

@Seajoemama: I have a yoga slim which just turned 3 years and is still going rock solid. Battery is at 81% capacity but this one was used for work so i had it plugged in most of the time charging to 100% in case i needed to be away from a charger, stuck on a long meeting. I reckon it can easily live 3 more years without feeling sluggish.

I just upgraded to a yoga pro 7 and it feels the same (upgrade provided by work every 3 years), good build quality, aluminium body, fan runs smoothly.

I think cleaning and debloating windows is a big factor on how they perform and keeping them working well over the years, but hardware wise they feel very solid

            • +1

@pichxlonco: Thats great to hear, thanks!

I've been contemplating pulling the trigger on the yoga slim, great deal going on right now with the 10% cashback. I think Im gonna go for it! Cheers!

          • @Seajoemama: Ive got a 10 year old yoga. Still going strong (other then the plastic peeling) and a 2 year old 9i yoga (i9 4060) both great no issues

            • @Mintee: What did you pay for the Yoga 9i out of interest and what would you spend on one these days if you were buying again or would you get something different? What's the battery life like? I've got an X1 Extreme that's getting long in the tooth and was contemplating latest Yoga gen 10s with onboard vs a refurb Yoga 9i with dGPU

              • @Jemz: So when I brought it…. I had a sale + a cashback rewards….
So i paid - 2362, but got 389.85 cashback…. then got lenovo rewards (about 100 bucks worth - so got a free legion mouse) + theres some 'tax' benefits there to claimback too for work purposes.

Battery, garbage, absolute garbage - Its not too bad, if youre not using the GPU and keep the screen brightness down.

It really depends on your usage requirement…. i wanted to game on the couch; this lets me do just that. Would I buy one again… probably not - I think its really hard to get the 'balance' right. I dont personally think integrated GPUS are there yet, never have been and never will…. (that is if you want to do something heavy) - if you want to browse the web; movies etc then sure integrated GPU.

My 10 year old Yoga with integrated GPU (its old with the watchband hinge); no fan, 360 touch screen thing… absolute bomb of a laptop, i still watch movies on it each night! Its silent, quick still.

Edit: should clarify, this is a 14" - I think 16" laptops are just too big

                • @Mintee: Thanks for the intel, there was one that popped up on outlet for $2391 but it doesn't even look like that good of a deal. I went back through some ozb deals and that's a similar price to what people paid 2 years ago.

Just doesn't look like many non-gamer laptops with dGPUs exist these days like my X1 Extreme 1st gen. I don't game on it but always good to have it there if I wanted to. I've even toyed with getting a MBP for the premium build quality etc and I don't have any specific windows requirements.

        • I bought a x360 envy a bit over a year ago. The main board just shat itself and died last week and wouldn't turn on. Was probably my fault for charging some devices through it while it was plugged in and off but I still wouldn't expect that to kill it.

HP were good about it though and fixed it for free out of warranty and got it back to me in like 4 days.

    • Same, I have now vowed ony to get metal (case) laptops.

    • I spoke to a mate just the other day, who works at a tech store. He said currently, HP and MSI are better options on the consumer laptop side. Dell and Lenovo seemed to be cutting costs a bit via lower build quality, and normally when they got a laptop brought in with issues every week or 2, it was a Lenovo.

On the commercial/business side, Lenovo is great (As has been my experience since 2016).

I have this laptop and I'm getting big fps drops in CS2.Feels sluggish. I think mostly due to CPU limitations.
TLDR Not so happy with it anymore. Got it back in 2023 I think.

    • +4

Are you sure? CPU released in 1Q 2024.

      • +1

You're right. Mine has Intel Core i7-13700H.
Seems to not make much of a difference though

    • Thanks for the info!

    • Often laptops optimise for benchmarketting and single threaded boost performance, sometimes it's as simple as adding a stand with a usb powered fan to help the laptop thermals out, sometimes this can help -

      https://amdaputuningutility.com/

(this works on some intel stuff too, url notwithstanding)

    • Probably overheating. These cheap acer gaming laptops don't have the thermal capacity and will throttle under constant load.

  • +1

Looked up specs at HP. How bad is this for general use and a bit of gaming?

    "300 nits, 62.5% sRGB"

    • +1

Yep, per my comment above, brightness isn't great.

  • Anyone carry around a 16" laptop daily?
Considering getting this for work and some gaming but may become a pain to lug around. Like the idea of options but practicality…?

Vs something more work focused like the Ideapad slim $1,250
    or Thinkpad E14 $950 - expired deal

    • +1

Yeah I do on a motorbike. If you're in a car its fine IMO unless you take public transport then I wouldn't unless even if its a Razer. RIP back.

    • dont. please take care of your back

  • +1

Full HD screen is a bit of a let-down. I suggest checking the laptop in store as hp screens can be hit and miss. I remember I bought one and the screen was readable only from some angles

  • +1

Good find op, I picked up the 15” 3050 version with the same 20% off coupon.

    • +2

      $879.20 delivered

      • Yep!

      • expired when I was about to pull the trigger :-(

        • +1

Personally I would pay a bit more for 4050/4060

        • LOL I read that then looked at your profile avatar. I imagine that was your exact reaction.

  • does this 14th gen CPU affected by the oxidation fault?

  • Would i be able to display to 3 external monitors from this laptop? If so, which dock would i need to purchase? Or does this laptop already have enough ports to display to 3 monitors without purchasing a dock? Thanks in advanced!

  • These are excellent to deconstruct and put into itx case

    • How would that work?

        1. Deconstruct
        2. 3D print anchors to fix system board into itx case
        3. Route power supply into itx case
  • damn code expired - spent too long researching and weighing up options

  • code was expired yesterday , messaged hp and they have the code working today. someone cann try message them and see if it works tomorrow.

  • +4

    Regarding Expired Code

I have contacted HP and they have said the following:

“We truly apologise for the code not working at the moment, the 20% off eBay coupon code comes from eBay and not HP. We have notified eBay about the coupon went down and are working with eBay to get the code working latest by tomorrow morning if not tonight”

Keep an eye out, should be back up soon

    • Any update on if this will be going back up?

      • +1

Just tested it, it’s back up and working.

        • -1

          Didn't work for me

  • Awesome, cheers

  • Anyone have problems with shipping ordered a laptop sat night still not shipped

    • +1

      Mine shipped next day.

      • Thanks hp have been no help keep telling me it's dispatched but no tracking other than label created and no delivery drivers have been to my house

      • Hp are a joke still haven't shipped my order

        • Have you messaged them on eBay? They were quick to reply to me with a question about the warranty duration.
