BTW Viltrox recently released AF 85mm F1.4 Pro at $598.00 USD.

Yeahhh but that's 3 times the price

    • Considering selling my (excellent) Sony 85mm f1.8 for this actually. Gonna feel the weight difference though.

      • Probably not worth the change for 2/3rd stop improvement. I would say if someone is buying now into 85mm then the f1.4 is the one to go for but it’s not worth changing from what is already a good lens to this one.

      • Switched awhile back from the Sony 1.8 to Samyang 1.4 and rarely if ever go back to the former though the Samsung has a slight warm colour cast.

Found the Sony 1.8 is sharp wide open but the Bokeh can be sometimes distracting. It’s such a good lens overall.

If weight and sharpness is not an issue - used Canon 85mm 1.2 II via MC-11 or similar adapter. I use it on both Canon EF and Sony FE mounts and it has a beautiful look.

If you want pure sharpness and are not concerned with weight a used Zeus’s Batis 85mm 1.8 but it is hard to find discounted to other used lens prices.

I have not used the Sony GM 2nd gen but have used the original and it is amazing. There are sometimes sale periods and used copies popping up.

  • Thanks, just started with a Sony camera and building it up with a set of primes.
Already have the 40mm 2.5 Sony so this will take care of the telephoto side.

  • I prefer the Sony as it has focus breathing compensation for video.

These lens are great for the money and I have no hesitation using it.

  • Love these budget lens.

The price drop of this is bananas.

If you are a budding photographer this type of lens at this price is unheard of new.

    • I just got the same email, I was looking forward to using this lens but I guess I've saved money buy not getting anything.

    • it does sound too good to be true, just like the Sigma 35mm F1.2 DG DN deal.

  • Mine arrived today. The Viltrox seal stickers had already been cut open. Lens itself was fine and had no signs of use from what I could see. So unless I find some issue I won't complain since they don't have anymore stock and hard to beat that price.
