American Apparel - 30% off The Entire Store until January 20th

100
BFF2013

Disclaimer: Apparently (anecdotally…) AA is a company run by 'jerks', with shoddy and sexist HR departments. See http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/85866 for a similar bargain I posted last year.

That being said, I'll leave the 'morality' of purchasing from whatever companies you chose up to you :)

The offer is 30% off the entire store, and as always, free shipping on orders above $100.

*Offer valid through January 20th, 2013. Promo code BFF2013 is required at checkout. Promo code may not be combined with other offers and is not valid at our retail store locations. Only one code per customer, non-transferable. Offer not available on Multipacks, Gift Cards, Newsstand, Multibrand, and California Select Vintage. Taxes and prior purchases do not qualify toward the minimum purchase for free shipping. Items purchased at the American Apparel Online Store may be returned or exchanged within 45 days of the date of purchase. Return item(s) may not be worn or washed. Final sale items may not be returned or exchanged for any reason. No cash back. All rules are subject to change at any time.

      Cool

  • Says: "Made in the USA, Sweatshop free". Their 'About us' (www.americanapparel.net/aboutus) is interesting.
I wonder if there's anything (besides ugg-boots) made in Australian anymore. [Wondering if I should even bother waving my Chinese-made Aussie flag this Australia Day.]

dude, if things are aussie made the price is 10x more. why the hell wouldn't we want it chinese made? you wouldn't get much better quality with aussie made things anyway.

This is something that business people in Australia really need to understand.

You can't run the same business you ran 20 years ago. Period. That business model is dead. The good old days where you were the only t-shirt shop on the block with contacts in Indonesia, China, or Sri Lanka are gone thanks to the internet. You can't hold the Australian consumer over a barrel anymore and price gouge. Anyone can go online, buy a t-shirt with a credit card which is the same quality as what you would buy in stores here in Australia, for far less.

So what's left is that Australian businesses have to look at what they can do to be competitive, besides compete in a race to the bottom, and that is focus on quality and service.

They've done neither. Instead they bitch and whine and ask the government to tax consumers shopping online and pay lip service to the need to support Australian retailers, built off the back of cheap foreign labor.

Anyway +1 for this deal, AA basic T's are a staple of mine, I recommend the 50/50 poly cotton, I don't like the triblend.

        • Kudos, this is the smartest thing anyone has written on Ozbargain for a while.

      • The problem with this view is that it ignores the circular nature of production for local consumption. Factors leading to your neighbour's redundancy (due to inability to produce Australian made) will eventuate yours - it's only a matter of time.

        • I just bought some nice air freshener's made in Victoria and some nice locally made jam … :)

  • how can anyone call them shoddy sexists??
dont all fashion sites get their clothes models to pose like this?

  • Can confirm that this 30% Off offer code applies to the Australian on-line store.

    http://store.americanapparel.com.au/

    Item Cost
1 California Fleece Sleeveless Zip Hoodie
    Color : Royal Blue
    Size : M $61.00
    Subtotal: $61.00
    Shipping: $8.00
    30% savings: -$18.30
    Total: $50.70

  • I just read the reddit article in the previous deal.. I can't believe a store can run like that and not be caught… I dont know if the posters are lying or not, but far out man…!!!

  • Crazy…

    US online price AU$36 (US$38) less 30%
With free shipping when order totals $30 or more

AU online price AU$61 less 30%
Must spend at least $100 to get free shipping

Better to buy from US site and use Shipito to forward at US$8.50 plus postage to Australia.

Thanks a lot. Your empty post stopped me from editing my post.

Anyway, I said - "Better to buy from US site and use Shipito to forward at US$8.50 plus postage to Australia" - because I understand that the US AA site will not deliver to Australia.

They want you to buy from the Australian online store and pay 60% more.

    Eg. Sleeveless hoody
    US$38.00 - 30% = AU$25.25
    AU$61.00 - 30% = AU 42.70
