Text says "Gears of War Standard" while the picture shows the cover for Gears of War TWO. Also, on the main page (http://www.jbhifi.com.au/games/) it shows same bundle w/o GoW for the same price…

I saw this on a tv commercial last night, so im guessing its legit. Will go down later today and suss it out though. If the deal is true. Better deal than getting the arcade pack for $228 as it includes a $80 game for an extra $30.
Actually I don't think these are the newer, more energy efficient and more reliable Jasper models because they'll be having 256MB internal flash memory instead of being shipped with a 256MB external memory card. So until they advertise the 360s with 256MB internal memory instead of a memory card, I think you'll be getting the older models. So stuff it, if I ever end up getting a 360 I'll wait for the Jasper. The prices are only going to get lower anyway.
Just got it for $250 from JB HiFi at Townsville. The bundled Gears of War is Gears of War 2, so the photoes appeared to be correct.
The console itself is a falcon instead of jasper, so whether you think it's worth it or not, that would be your call.
The newer the consoles, the harder they are to mod id take the falcon :)

Sweet deal, definitely a Falcon though - bought one earlier today. And definitely comes with Gears of War 2 - the standard edition, not collectors one. Great price!
Hmmm no sign of this promo at Macquarie Centre (NSW) around 11am today - I asked the guy and he said he had never heard of this deal
Neither had the guy who served me today, but after asking someone else he confirmed it was right. JB have put on a tonne of casual staff who have no clue what they're doing. I asked for the pack, to which he said "I don't think we can do it, but let me go check" and he came back saying the deal was fine.
Guy at the counter had trouble ringing up the pack too, waited about 5 minutes before he got the OK. Then he said "OK, that's $320 thanks" - when it was really $259 + $39 for a Wii game. Told him this, he spent another 5 minutes and finally got things sorted. Gotta cut them a little slack though, very busy there and it is extremely hard to keep on top of all the deals they're doing.
Other worthy deals I saw were the TH-50PZ80A for $1490 and the TH-42PZ8A for $949~.
Deal is very legit across all stores, expires the 31st. If they run out of Standard editions they are giving out Collectors editions for the same price
Got mine today from Macquarie. The guy who served me knew straight away what i was talking about. However - he mentioned that it was a 1 day only sale. Not sure that is correct. It is the older console as they gave sega tennis separate to the arcade bundle (ie got two arcade disks). Definitely gears of war 2. Very good deal!!!

Anyone managed to play the gears of war 2 with the arcade though? Mine kept on telling me that I have a dirty disc and i need to clean the disc or restart the console even after JB exchanged another copy of GoW 2 for me……other bundled games seemed to be fine though, geez……
probably got a dud console with a weak laser. I'd go exchange the console pronto.
Word of warning - i purchased the bundle on boxing day and when i took it home to my surprise i discovered it was a refurbished 2006 model of the xbox!!!!! No hdmi and mega prone to the rrod. I exchanged it for a model that was manufactured in Nov 2008 - so happy its the latest model. just be careful when you purchase and check the date on the machine before handing over your hard earned.
For those who are interested in a HDD. Another ozbargain deal pointed me to http://www.xboxstorageupgrade.com I got a refurbished 20GB HDD for my Arcade from Microsoft and 3 months Gold Live Membership for AUD34.99 (including delivery). The Arcade package I got from EB games was the Guitar Hero package with a 256MB game card, so the deal works on the recently purchased Arcade Xbox 360s.

I took it to EB and got it price matched, then returned the Gears Of War 2 title making it only $159 for the Xbox 360 Console and two games.
Then used the online Xbox Arcade Storage Upgrade to get 3 months Xbox Live subscription and a 20GB hard drive for $34.99 with free priority shipping from the USA.
My console is a Falcon, but has a BenQ drive. Flashed it only minutes ago and my backups play perfect :D

can you tell in the store if your getting a falcon version or not ?
each arcade box has its own serial number so is there some code within the serial number ?
I want to pick one up but so far have read got to get one with in-built 256mb memory which will means that it is one of the new units.
If it says 12.1A for 12V on the back label of the machine, it will be a jasper. I think you're very likely to get a falcon though.
if the console includes a memory card it's not a Jasper, if it's built in 256mb it is :)
and what systema says about the voltage, that's probably a better way of finding one.

I just checked with a guy at JB Hifi (Nunawading) this morning and found out their Xbox Arcade is a non HDMI model :(.

When I bought the console on boxing day i too had got a non hdmi model. In fact it was an original version of the xbox made in 2006. Check the manufactured date. You should be able to see it through the window.
Do the HDMI versions have a HDMI logo on the box anywhere?
Theoretically all arcade versions of the xbox console should have hdmi. however it seems like microsoft or JB are selling refurbished xbox 360's. So you will have to check the xbox itself and not rely on the box.
was just at JB and this deal is now over. Price of just console is now $299
damn cheap xbox's are everywhere now, maybe i should have waited abut before i bought mine. i would have preferred this pack over the guitarhero 3 bundle for 299. oh well
