DYMO is the worst printer I've ever used on Windows. It's like they built the software in 2003 and never improved upon the first release.

With the 1.1🌟 rating on the Google Play Store I can only assume the experience on Android is no different. They also have their "you must buy our labels or we won't honour the warranty" attitude.

    I'd look for something else…

DYMO was so much more fun in the Seventies!
Turn the wheel to the next letter and click the handle.
      Spellcheck was crap though. 😎

      • You can still buy those. They fall to bits though ask me how I know.

        • I still have an old one and it works well. It’s crap that the new ones don’t last.

      What do you recommend?

      • +7

I like Niimbot printers. The D110 seems to be the comparable printer to Dymo's 200B.

        • @besttechadvisor hi. Im interested on the niimbot. Is says thermal so it means the label will not last long?

          • +1

@McMaferMur: They last quite a while in my experience. The DYMO works the same way.

        • Thanks - just got it from Amazon for $33 delivered with Prime.

        • +2

My niimbot just died. apparently you need to turn them on every month or so or else the battery permanently dies. it's also quite hard to change battery. add to that refills are expensive and must be proprietary (due to NFC chip). bit of a shit system overall.

Ended up switching to a brother pt h110 ($40 @ officeworks) - hand-held label maker. So much easier/quicker than using an app and bluetooth. no regrets

          • +1

            @DaiShan: pt h110 ($40 @ officeworks)
Maybe easier to use but the font icon emoji etc would be much less, roght? And bulky

I like Brother - my experience with thermal labels is poor as they degrade over time.

Brother and some of the other competitors like Brady, Epson, Panduit use a laminated label where the cartridges combine a backing, clear top layer, and the label printed in the middle, which makes it far more durable over time. I ended up spending a fair amount more for the printer (which works with bluetooth from a phone or as a usb printer from a pc), and use non-genuine labels from Inkstation, but it looks far better.

        • Any link? Yes i prefer non thermal

works very well on android for me, ive had mine for 6months no issues , would recommend at this price
Also that's the wrong app you've pasted , but the reviews arnt much better :)

Thanks. Glad it works for you.

I will still personally advise people against buying DYMO products. It looks like that 2.6 star app hasn't been updated in a year, compared to the competition's app that has 4.6 stars and was updated last week.

+1 for this unit. Works great on my Android. I use 3rd party labels that I have puchased off Ebay.

      • Depends which DYMO printer you buy as to how big of a problem third party labels are.

Some printers won't work at all, some simply note down when a third party label has been used, some don't check.

        • @besttechadvisor Do you know if we can get third party labels for Niimbot? The labels they sell are atrociously pricey. Also do you have an estimate on how long these thermal labels last?

  • +6

I've got this exact label maker and use it alongside the Android app, works great. No issues for me!

    • +3

Same. Works well, easy to use.

    • What is the exact model of the label I should buy?

I want to check if I could buy them off cheap from TEMU or somewhere.

      Thanks👍

      • I found it on Aliexpress.

        12mm*4mm label refill.

        5 of them for $10

        • I've found some of the alternative cheap ones fade away quite fast compared to the original ones. Ymmv but I've had mixed results when buying from AliExpress or eBay

          • +1

@pichxlonco: I’ve been buying the Aliexpress ones for the last couple of years for my job, and no issues at all.

  • +3

Agree it's simple and works. I got it on the last deal here sometime last year. It does what I need it to, and is nothing special nor anything bad!

  • How did you find this deal, may I ask?

    • +1

luck, family asked which labeler i had ,googled to send them the link, i had bought from OW

      • +1

        Thanks for sharing it!

Oh! Don't stop, I'm almost there!!

      • I havent been this excited since the Raspberry 5 was released.

I bet this is what sex feels like

          • @ballsau: Wait, sex? I can't find a library by that name. What are you referring to?

    • +2

The Niimbot version of this looks a bit slicker. https://github.com/labbots/NiimPrintX

Despite the RFID chipped rolls, I'm leaning towards the Niimbot. I buy from Aldi all the time and the rolls seem cheap enough to keep using legit ones.

  • +3

The niimbot label printer is pretty good too
    Labels are also much cheaper

  • +1

Problem with these printer is, i cannot create different length of labels, from one roll of cartridge. I mean i have buy different rolls and keep changing if i need different size of labels

Anyone buying the niimbot, read above..

    • +1

So far I am always using the genuine one, as I only use occasionally one roll can last me few months

However saw a YouTube hack that you just need to hold the genuine roll at the back of the printer before closing the lid, then it will be working using generic not DRM labels, haven’t tried it myself though

      • @littlesoldier those on aliexpresss are they genuine? or you always buy from amazon/nimbot official store?

        • +1

I bought from AliExpress and they are genuine, the store I bought sells the NIIMBOT machine too

On average around $6 per roll which I think isn’t too expensive (as a light user, 3 roll last me for more than year)

          • @littlesoldier: ah ok thanks yes saw on ali probaly $7 now, if buy one and cheaper for bulk of course.
ok i'll think again, this is usually just impulse buy, for fun

          • @littlesoldier: can you send through the link to the store please.

  • Bought one like that at Officeworks, had to return it the next day. Compared to the manual one that I still have, it's like chalk and cheese. The print on this one is faint and the fonts spaced badly. Even for free, I would refuse to use that.

    • Yes each to their own, I'd rather use this over the manual one though, too much hassle to use the keys to print labels.

  • I have a Dymo Rhino 6000 (big yellow printer) label printer because it can print 24mm labels. The downside is that it is hit and miss to get compatible labels which click into place. The dimensional tolerance for compatible labels is such that if the manufacturer is out by 1mm the label cartridge will not click down into place (this printer has 2 blue hooks which hold the cartridge down. Im onto my 3rd brand of compatible labels and only 1 so far worked.

  • Brother for the cheap stuff, Brady for work stuff

  • The machines last but the labels don't adhere or stick to a lot of surfaces. They tend to come off over time and for this reason id never buy a dymo again.

Anyone know of any good 3rd party labels that actually stick?

    • I doubt other labels will stick better.
