I've written off Arlo as a brand after they expired the "free for life" 7 day cloud storage for the Arlo pro 2

    • I’ve still got it on my Arlo pro 2’s. Not sure how long it will last though as a friend with Arlo pro 2’s got a email last year that they were losing it. He did buy a few years after me so hopefully I’ve been grandfathered in.

Yeah expiring. They backtracked then added a few more years but it's coming to an end soon. As far as I know no end date. No grandfathered in I'm afraid. Who knows, the backlash was real, maybe they'll just leave it on than face class action lawsuit.

        • There's an Arlo base station which records the videos locally (I forget the model number, but unfortunately it's one without a siren).

I've hedged my bets in grabbing that model when they end the cloud storage.

As long as notifications, the Arlo app and the IFTTT library continues to work, it more than serves my needs (notifications on phone when something's spotted, ability to watch recorded video remotely via app if you missed the notification).

Edit: VMB4540 and VMB5000 hubs will let you playback via the app directly, even with no cloud storage. (And this has the added security advantage of your videos not leaving your network.)

    • I have one of these all I need, $1 a week sub onsale is worth it.

Do they go on sale often?, the subscription I mean

        • they do for 3 or 6 mth blocks, if not I use without its mainly just a door bell for me

  • Just ordered and it's ready for pick up

Sus! Why is it so cheap. Are there new ones coming ?

  • Looks like a price error.

    • +2

Even this price no one will buy expensive subscription fees

      • I'm hoping to try with HA or if that fails, get the base station.

      • Without subscription I’d be keen as but it’s a huge turn off lol

    • I thought this at first, though also on Amazon and Bunnings for this price.

  • Any solar panel charger recommendations?

    • I have a longer lead running to mine o front of garage, just flick the switch when gets low

  • Are these better than the Ultra 2?

  • Bought it first, think later. For those with some programming skills, there is this:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/arlo/comments/1kgup92/open_source_s…

Will try to decipher what all these means in terms of setting own server to upload recordings (seems like if a place gets robbed and everything is stolen, having cameras recording in a usb that will be stolen as well will not work very well)

Thanks. That looks interesting. Will give it a go whenever I get time.

These are rubbish. Nothing works without subscription. Even then the battery doesn't last long. You will regret buying this. Just go for Eufy, reolink or even TPLink.

1000% this. I've previously set up arlo for my mother's house and regret it. Without a sub you cannot view past recordings remotely, only if you are on the same network as the arlo home hub. Since last update i now cannot even view past recordings at all, even if I'm at my mother's house on her network. Im ripping out all the arlo cameras and replacing them with reolinks , which i have at my grandmother's place and mine with no issues.

    • lol, mine is pugged in on front garage, just flick switch to charge, works as a door bell for all I need

Recently made the switch from Arlo to Eufy and I am much happier. Arlo’s subscription model just isn’t worth it in my opinion. Wouldn’t recommend Arlo if you’re looking to avoid ongoing fees.
