Sigh. I bought the M3 Air 24/512, and I regret my decision.

Insane deal, considering it comes with warranty. Apple refurb store M2 Pro is like 2.5k or something. This price is even beating the facebook marketplace Pros.

    Renewed IS NOT Apple Refurbished.

    Most appear to be ex-display.

A few people have done very well and been very happy with their renewed purchases. Some have been quite disappointed. My M2 Air had misaligned hinges from being in a demo stand, quite a few scratches, a lot of run cycles, questionable warranty and shipped floating bare with the power pack chucked in on top of it in a brown box.

Other people claim as-new and hardly used at all in original packaging. YMMV.

Yep, wouldn’t touch pre-owned from any retailers other than Apple refurbished.

    • Grabbed a demo 2020 Intel MacBook from JB, still going absolutely strong.

JB even gave me 2 year warranty (exp 2023).

      • +5

how much did JB pay you to buy an intel mac in 2020 when m1 chips were around the corner?

        • +1

          released in parallel in 2020

        • They had it for $900, offered $700 for 8GB and 256GB and they took it, even he said they just want rid of it. Winning as it’s been great, just not a fan of the touchbar

      • Salespeople generally don't give you a free extended warranty out of the goodness of their heart, it's almost always factored into the price. Check the receipt, think you'll find you still paid for the warranty.

        • Don’t have receipt anymore, but was definitely on the receipt, and pretty sure it said $0.00 but no evidence

      • +2

Yeah got myself an M1 1tb Macbook Pro 16” for $1700 at the Good Guys still going strong as well.

We never sell any of the items on our website listed as ~renewed~ in store. They are online only. So this SKU being sold is unlikely to be an ex-display IMO

      • would there be any warranty from JB though as I've read from some fellow ozbargainers they said they still have a 2 year warranty.

        • +1

Any electronic above $500 has a 2 year warranty with jbhifi

  • Hmm… pre-owned M3 Pro 18gb/512gb for $1900 eh? Kinda stretching it given M4 Pro

  • what is the return process like if you are not happy with product condition?

      i'll bite… What?

    • The listing says:

And assuming you find a fault that's more than cosmetic blemishes, the faulty goods info: https://support.jbhifi.com.au/hc/en-au/articles/360053783513…

        Quality control process…

        Restore to factory image…
        Wipe with microfibre cloth…

I would say that would be the extent of the process based on what the comments have said, saying they are instore demo models.

        • My last one was dirty and had pink residue on the charging cable. So a wipe down is asking a bit much 😅

renewed m2 max studio is $1699

but I don't need one maybe someone does

    dual video encoders FTW

still rocking M1 Max MBP 16 and no reason to upgrade yet

      • they have a use case, if you only process media at home and have big ass monitors that are calibrated

but TBH performance gains aren't significant over the same chip in an MBP 16 so it's easy to convert MBP into a desktop

but obviously not the other way around

me, I prefer MBP so I can just take my creative workloads anywhere. some peeps are different

IF you want performance, buy a PC. a 9950X3D, will hold the M3 Ultra down, and the RX 9070xt will molest it.

If you hate Windows, use Linux. There is no reason, for ANYONE to use a Mac desktop. Unless you're an AI dev, who needs more than 32gb of Vram, but that's a very niche usecase.

The only reason to buy a Mac laptop, is cause Windows/Linux laptops are atrocious, and somehow the fruit company, has created a better product..

@John Barosa: This is a very narrow view

            • @drfuzzy: But it is true. A laptop has a lot of moving components. A screen, speakers, battery, fingerprint etc. It's important for all of these these factors to be balanced, to maximise batterylife/power. Last thing you want, is ur laptop running out of power in class, or being too hot to use.

A PC is a CPU + GPU, that can be as inefficient as it wants.

So why pay a premium, for a desktop that was designed like a laptop?

              • @John Barosa: Size? I HATE big stupid boxes sitting in my desktop even mini itx is stretching it

AOC store has m4 chip from 2.2k

  • 2 year old laptop for $1.9K. I still go for it if needed

I've just received my Macbook Pro M4 Pro and it is in good condition overall. There seems to be an ink (?) blemish of some sort from first inspection and a small dent.

    • Is there scratches? Any screen damages?

      • No visible scratches, only a very small dent on the bottom and some ink (?) marks as I mentioned in my comment.
