i knew about that one which is the Amazon Business Offer and it require ABN.

i did see that in your post, i think i got confused with the regular list price and the final price after amazon business discount, my bad :D

      • +1

I had no luck getting my ABN approved on there. I submitted documents like EML workcover and invoices but alas you get botted replies

  • I have one of these - still works great. Hard to believe it's 4 years old.

This model (the Pro version) was released 3 years ago. But yes, ASUS routers age better than other home network vendors.

Was thinking about it until you said it's 4 years old haha.

I guess my 10 year old AC68U is still going alright.

    • +1

I just pulled the trig. Time to replace the RT-AC68U after all this time.

  • I've been looking for a reason to update my 6yo Telstra Smart router but the damn thing just never seems to give up while providing seemingly great service. This Asus has me interested though. Most other stores over $400… a few sources here and there rating it very highly for the bang-for-buck. Having done zero research into routers this seems like a decent impulse?

  • If you're going to buy an expensive router, you should choose one that supports Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7. From September 15, the NBN internet network in Australia will be upgraded. Buying such a router helps prepare for the coming years.

Only if you picture yourself actually getting faster than 1gbps Internet within the year, otherwise there is no point investing in a 6E/7 router this early if it doesn't get used.
For reference I use the AX86u Pro on my 1gbps connection and can max it out easy over Wifi 6 from a single client.

This ones already end of life support in Singapore - so not sure how long they'll keep it active elsewhere.

I believe that is the "minimum" date they will give support for and can be extended. The Singapore support page still got updates after the Feb deadline, though pretty sure all regions share the same firmware anyway.
The UK page lists 31st December 2026 so it's likely at least until that date for all regions.

This router v the OzB favourite Flint2?

  • This or TUF-AX6000 for $209? Seem fairly comparable. The TUF has dual 2.5g ports but isn't supported by Merlin firmware. Can't see any real performance comparisons between the 2.

  • This supports Asuswrt-Merlin if ppl are interested.

    Thanks OP

bought one $217 paid by ZIP it's a great price
too much FOMO on the newer technologies
For a basic home based user it takes a while for devices to catch up to the point where you are stretching the router to its max
    All IMHO of course

Good price I just got one, but after a day used, not feeling Asus RT-AX86U is better than my Xiaomi AX6000. Xiaomi had a lot stronger signals and speed(3-4 times difference at same spot), but Xiaomi is a lot cheaper. It cost like $100 purchased 1 year ago from China.
