  • Thanks OP! Looks so enticing. I am on the lookout for a headset but one important use case for me (in addition to good sound quality & noise cancellation) is ability to take calls (Teams/Zoom) . I was planning to save up for the Sony XM6….but this sounds too gut. Looking for some advice!

I use these for video calls and they're good. Sometimes on normal phone calls you might need to speak up a bit for the mics to hear you clearly but overall very good for calls.

My personal take on the premium headphones. I've tried all of these personally.

Sony XM6 (along with prev gens). I find too stark. Great sound technically and top NC but I liken it to listening to a band in an empty warehouse. Great sound but lacks "genuine" atmosphere and stark to the ears. That's subjective and others will love its atmosphere signature.

Sennheiser Momentum 4. Incredible 60hrs battery and superior technical sound, where you hear every instrument in great clarity. Especially suited to classical or orchestra listening for that reason, but the environment sounds like being in a studio. Not a negative, but hear out my Ultra review below. Bass is strong, but I think it's only an edge vs Ultra by a factor of better clarity with some songs, not 10x as some say. I also found the M4 not as loud as the Ultra at max volume, not that anyone will want to blow out their ears maxing volume.

Sonos Ace. 7.5/10 sound. Beautiful hardware. But lacks sound stage and sounds is flat, close to the ears.

Bose QC Ultra. My fav. Not as technically superior to M4 (some mids are finely muddy) but they have a punch in sound stage. If the M4 is being in a studio, the Ultra is being at the concert. You don't just listen and applause, you groove and feel alive. At a concert you're not listening to the technical proficiency of the sound, but the sense of being in and with the music. And surprisingly, with some songs the Ultra had more rumble in the bass than the M4.

Everyone will have different preferences. I think dance lovers will love the XM6 for its loudness and punch. Technical listeners will love the M4. Sonos ecosystem users will enjoy the Ace with its latest firmware updates and pleasing hardware. And live, 3D sensation music listeners will love the Ultra.

Battery life, passive mode etc are others considerations but to me as long as it can last the longest international flight and has sound I enjoy, that's what the headphones needs to deliver.

Unfortunately Sennheiser still far behind in ANC, B&W as well but less so. Otherwise I'd have gone with PX7S3 probably. I still switch between QC35ii and QC Ultra, QC35II actually siunds more balanced to me.

Thanks for the info mate. I got Momentum 4 and to me, the ANC compared to my old Sony XM2, is only equal, seems they're not as good in ANC technology

Which one is the most comfortable, if someone had a big fat head and large ears (not me btw).

    • Thanks @freelife for the detailed response. Indeed very helpful. Made some time and went to JB today. Connected my iPhone 15 pro plus to a iPod pro max, Sony XM6 and Bose QC Ultra. Made a phone call to my partner using each headset with NC turned on. She was floored by the call quality using the XM6. It completely nullified the ambient background noise she could hear me very clearly. The other two were relatively mediocre in terms of call quality. So in summary. - I will be waiting for price to drop on XM6 before I buy one.

    • any comments for ANC for above headphones?

Bose QC SC was not as good as Sony XM4 on ANC but ok to use on the flight.
XM5 is slightly better than XM4 on ANC but not as conform as XM4 and QC SC.

Bose QC SC starts having random drop out and the on/off switch is not working properly after few months.

Guessing I cant price match this anywhere as its restricted to prime members?

    • +2

JB already dropped their price to match Amazon - $389 so I suppose you could price match at another retailer against JB

Just saw that - awesome. I can get 30 off 300 with a code then use giftcards to pay the balance. Noice. Any tricks Im missing?
