Same lol
do these come with a free good handy cap?
I see what you did there.. *tips the cap of handiness
They're already playing golf because tennis and lawn bowls don't allow motorised carts.
How are these compared to the callaway edge sets Costco sells? Costco haven’t discounted the edge yet since late 2024
These are $510.02 better
The graphite set is down to $750. Mens sold out.
Not a deal. Usually the steel set was like $500-600
It's normally discounted to $699 for steel shaft. Its been $599 once but that isnt the norm.
It was just a reply to your comment that it wasnt discounted when it was.
Is Wilson generally good when it comes to golf gear or should I consider beginner sets from Callaway or other brands? TIA
If you’re asking that question then just take any set. The brand of the clubs is not a big factor in a beginner’s golf game anyway
The quality is fine, the clubs won't hold you back until you are consistently striking the ball (topping them along the ground doesn't count). You'll either play long enough for this to happen and be excited to upgrade or be happy you didn't spend the extra $$ on some clubs you don't use (golf is a frustrating sport).
If your new/sh*t any clubs will do
At least you know these aren’t bent/wrecked like the op shop
Costco you still need a bag for $100+
I can vouch for Wilson. I got a similar set to this from Big W about 10 years ago ($250ish) and still use the irons and hybrids. I'm looking at upgrading now because I'm playing a lot and my handicap is down around 18
This is a "box set" so it's a cheaper quality than the Wilson Staff stuff that pros use. Still really good value though, hard to beat as people on marketplace are still asking $200+ for a set of 20 year old Callaway irons.
Beginner and wanting to buy a set imo the best options are:
1. Buy this set on sale
2. Find a used quality set on marketplace Callaway/TaylorMade/Ping etc. - if you are patient and quick to strike, you should be able to get an iron set, bag, driver and maybe hybrid/woods for around the same price or + ~$100.
Both options you should be able to sell up and break even if you decide it's not for you.
Like anything you can get a better quality/value 2nd hand, but will take time to learn brands/models/value so you know when a deal pops up.
The honest answer? Depends… How seriously do you intend to learn to play? If you're going to knock a ball round a couple of times a year with your mates then these are fine. If you're planning to take the game up seriously then you'll outgrow these clubs pretty quickly. You can look at that in one of two ways. Either you buy these for $300, knock the crap out of them for six months, sell these for $50 on Facebook and then invest in something serious, or you stick another $300 or $400 on top and buy a decent set of used clubs. You'll probably sell these in six months too, but you'll be selling them for more or less what you paid for them. A $700 set of used clubs is waaaay better than a $300 set of new ones. A quick word of warning though, don't buy used clubs off Facebook. Lots of overpriced shit on there, and lots of fake stuff. There's a huge market in counterfeit clubs, so you might think you're buying a set of Calloways but you're actually buying some knock off Chinese junk with a Callaway label on it… If you know someone who plays, they'll probably know someone with an old set they no longer want.
What you absolutely don't want to do if you're a beginner is buy decent new clubs. There's no point going and shelling out $2000 on a set of Titleist irons for example as you'll get no benefit from them.
Good luck.
I don't see too many fat people on the golf course tbh.. there's only a limited amount of hours in the day to fill yourself with alcohol and rubbish, give them a break.
19th hole.
Sounds defensive to me. Trump plays golf. Nuff said.
Yeah but he's bad at it.
Yeah but he's bad at it.
His official handicap is 2.8. If you know anything about golf you would realise how ridiculous your comment is.
TDS is real. Seek help.
@1st-Amendment: He's also "won" many tournaments legitimately.
By the way, how many tweets did Trump send out complaining about Obama playing golf instead of being the President?
By the way, how many tweets did Trump send out
Don't know because I don't have TDS… Why do you care?
If I didn't like someone I would just ignore them. It's truly remarkable how much effort some people go to to obsess over people they don't like.
TDS is real. Seek help.
Why do you care?
Can't stand hypocrisy when it's used to rally his base. Of course it's all projection, but his supporters can't (or won't) see it. MAGA suddenly uninterested in the Epstein list too. Funny that.
@Randolph Duke: After spending time whining about tyranny they bent over for the first real tyrant that came along. The whole democratic and legal system is totally stuffed.
they bent over for the first real tyrant that came along
You're saying that with a straight face after Covid lockdowns? The mental gymnastics here is off the charts…
Just curious, what exact tyranny do you think you living under right now?
The whole democratic and legal system is totally stuffed.
Crying about a democratic result not going your way does not mean the system is broken, it means it is working.
Crying about not getting your own way all the time is not tyranny, it is entitlement.
@1st-Amendment: Look at the number of executive orders he is getting away with and how he is burying states rights. The fact you can’t spot a tyrant shows how under the Trump spell you are. TDS now explains people who support Trump.
Look at the number of executive orders
An executive order is a right that ALL presidents have had since George Washington. Part of the job of a President is to issue EO's. What part of this is triggering you?
he is getting away with
What does that even mean 'getting away with'. Just because you disagree?
how he is burying states rights
Which rights specifically? Could you give a specific example? Trump has actually given States back more of their rights as per the 10th Amendment.
The fact you can’t spot a tyrant
You're the one who can't actually provide any actual examples other than 'Orange Man Bad'…
MAGA suddenly uninterested in the Epstein list too
Where did you read that? Let me help you get out of your echo chamber:

And you're on a thread to defend him vehemently. How's that any different?
Crying about a democratic result not going your way does not mean the system is broken, it means it is working.
I don't think anyone is really crying or questioning the result, rather than resultant attacks & meddling on government department & judiciary,, in particular the abhorrent behaviour of ICE and illegal deportations without due process. I don't think Trump is joking about deporting citizens either.
And you're on a thread to defend him vehemently.
Nothing I have said here is favourable or unfavourable to any Politician on any side. I certainly don't go into a Golf club thread to start political rants. I will however call out this immature behaviour when I see it.
I don't think anyone is really crying or questioning the result

Government does government. This is your big story? Let me guess, it's ok when your team does it?
in particular the abhorrent behaviour of ICE and illegal deportations without due process
Lol, someone been swallowing the talking points like a good little puppet…
Deportation of illegal aliens is the opposite of illegal, it is explicitly defined in Title 8, Section 1227 of US code. It is enforcing the law.
Imagine if you stopped swallowing media lies, you might not be so angry when the government actually does its job for a change.
I don't think Trump is joking about deporting citizens either.
Good for you. Wake me up when you have more than just your feelings.
How you going there with that 'orange man bad' derangement syndrome? Seems Trump is living in the lap of luxury in your mind, rent free.
It's bollocks. If you use a cart because you can't walk 18 holes then fair enough. If you use a cart because you're to lazy to walk 18 holes then you shouldn't be on the course in my humble opinion.
In terms of exercise, yeah it's not particularly knackering if you're 20, but a 8-10 km walk pushing a trolley or carrying a bag, a couple of hundred practice swings and shots, bending down 18 times to tee your ball and 18 times to pick it out of the hole isn't bad exercise for anyone, and certainly very good once you're too old to play football, rugby and so on.
FORE!!!!
If anyone is looking at these I would also suggest perhaps contacting golf clearance outlet.
They have been texting me about stocktake EOFY all kinds of sale stuff. They will potentially have a better/cheaper starter.
Instore only though
They have their Pro FX starter sets for $379 but I would take this wilson set over that. They have a similar wilson set for $579.
My tip to any new golfers is this, do not buy the beginner package sets if you're just starting off. You're better off buying a used set, then someone has already taken the depreciative hit. If you like the sport, you'll probably want to upgrade and can easily sell the clubs for nearly as much as you paid for them. If you hate the sport then you can sell the clubs and won't have lost much money in the process.
With the way prices are jacked on Facebook marketplace, you could easily sell this for breakeven if you wanted imo
My local OP shop even had a set. No idea if they were any good.
At this price, the depreciative hit has already been taken and you get a bag included.
Think you're better off buying a 7i and a driver. Going to the range for a bit. Then buy a used set of beginner-intermediate clubs that are ~10-15 years old for a similar price.
A brand new entry level 7i and a driver may cost you $400+. I will suggest the Costco set, not this Wilson set. You can’t sell it at all if you don’t want it or need too upgrade.
True. I’ve seen decent iron+wedge sets for $300-400. Then probably need to add $150 for an old driver. Then $50 for a putter.
What else I need to pay after I buy this like other costs to start a game?
Balls, tees at minimum. Would also advise a glove but not absolutely necessary.
A towel that can clip to outside of bag would be good to wipe clubs/balls. You could pack a hand towel instead if you dont want to buy a golf one but keep it easily accessible so you dont have to waste time pulling it in/out of bag.
Can hire a buggy if you dont want to carry your bag. Can use tee to fix pitch marks on green instead of buying a specific tool. Download free apps to phone find distances.
Check if course has dress code.
Dont we just just scavenge tees off the tee box or go v1 searching in the bushes?
Could you tell me more of the app for finding distances? Is this smart working with a phone? I see someone playing it in a room using a slide to tell the distances. Would be perfect for my start if it does.
It's not free but I've found 18birdies really good for both training and tracking shots / suggesting clubs. When I went to cancel my 7 day trial, they offered me another 7 days then a full year membership discounted to $115 from $150ish which I stacked with a Google play offer at the same time (think it was bonus points with everyday rewards). The Ai swing analysis is good too (worth investing in a tripod to hold your phone) and provides exercises to improve your weak areas (i have a lot of exercises…).
If you have a garmin watch / device and it's compatible with the garmin golf app, then you can use that for free but it's a bit light and the courses aren't always up to date (my local has swapped around a couple of holes which 18birdies have updated but not garmin even after i submitted a ticket to them).
I’m left handed, how do I get a good deal on clubs?
FB Marketplace… LH clubs always get the best prices at the stores as well
Any advice on this set or expend the extra $169 for Strata Plus 14-Piece Golf Clubs Package. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/900421
12 piece package also on sale for $479.00.
If you are spending 5-700 you could just grab a used set on FB marketplace and try and get it as complete as you can. Sometimes they might leave out a Driver or putter.
Get this set and save the money. I dont think the strata set will be any better. If you improve and play more, you will likely want to upgrade to something else whether you have wilson or strata.
I’d argue that this is not a complete set. No 7i for a beginner is a terrible idea. In fact let’s put 7,8,9 in there as well. The most frequently used clubs…. Still a decent deal to get some wedges a bag, driver and putter for under $400 brand new.
Hey, there is 6, 7, 8, 9, PW & SW in this set. The description in the title is a bit vague.
Gave a + for the description.
