Only a few dollars more through Reolink Directly. I paid more $146.29 only 13 days ago through Reolink B2B Sales.

Why would you buy directly if it's cheaper through Amazon??

      • -1

Easier warranty process + avoiding sending profit to the evil Bezos empire are the two most obvious reasons.

      • Just showing that it is on par and that even Reolink directly isn't high.

The only thing to consider with these cameras (and any with a similar design, such as the Duo 3V) is the desired angle and the height at which you plan to mount it. The camera can only be angled "up" so far. Lower roof or mounting positions might not find this camera suitable.

Here is an example of mine for my Garage Door Coverage which works well and this with no zoom.

I prefer the wide-angle lens compared to some of the other cameras.

    • Might want to blur the rego

      • 🤷 Not fussed to be honest. But I've done it anyway.

      • +1

Why do people do this? You drive around all day with the rego on display, I don't understand why the need to blur?

        • +2

When you see cars on the road, you don't know who owns the car. Now there's a link between this user and the car rego. If this user pissed someone off on OzBargain or the internet, then this information could be misused.

I don't see any image at all

        • +1

Try now. I broke the link.

    • Hmm, this comment got me thinking. My soffit isn't very high, like 2 to 2.5 meters. I wonder how this camera compares to the winner angle 1240A?
I like the dome look because it's more discreet, and you can't easily tell which way the lenses are pointing.

  • +1

Not a whole lot of point in optical zoom, without pan/tilt is there?

    • A little bit, yeah. It would be fine if the camera were at a height (like a second story) and you wanted to zoom in a bit more and have it fixed. Otherwise at a lower height, it is very pointless and then you lose your wider angle too.

    • +1

For those uncertain of required lens focal length (angle of view and magnification)

The optical zoom is not intended to be zoomed in and out by the user during daily use. It's basically a set-and-forget option to give the owner flexibility of mounting and adjusting the camera to monitor a chosen area, at full resolution.

Here's a good example: Monitoring a vehicle gate at the end of a 30m driveway, from a mounting point on the house.

A regular security camera would have captured the entire front yard, but any cars entering the gate would be very small in the picture and recorded with relatively low resolution. When reviewing footage, you can see the shape and colour of the vehicle but a positive identification is very difficult, even when digitally zoomed into 4k footage.

However, when the camera is aimed at the gate opening and using full 5x optical zoom, the video footage from the camera allows the owner to review and identify the make, model and colour of vehicles passing through the gateway, and can even read the number plates during daylight hours.

      • In this case, you would be better to get a Trackmix that has two lenses. Wide Angle of the entire view and then a zoomed in view of the gate.

  • +1

Maybe overkill but I bought a trackmix for this purpose, yet to be installed.

I've got one with the fixed lense and I like the dome for protection but I find the colour night mode is useless due to reflection from the dome.
Wouldn't get one with a dome of it was out of reach.

    • +2

Agree - don't get the dome one unless you need the extra protection. A turret or bullet version gives a lot more flexibility and fewer issues with reflections.
