Good call. Zyron chargers are the only ones that have continued to receive reports of burning/smoking and early failures on OzB well into 2025 - despite the rep @ibelievesyd insisting repeatedly that they have changed to a safer and more reputable manufacturer. Even Amazon cheapo (i.e. rebranded Chinese) chargers like Heymix and Lencent seem to have cleaned up their act in recent times, and I would recommend everyone to give Zyron a wide berth for falling behind those two in terms of reliability and safety standards.

        • I've purchased a few of these Zyron Powerpod travel chargers, and have been happy with them. (That's just my experience and I know that doesn't necessarily mean they're better than any other brand.)

I also like that they're an Australian business, and have gone to the effort of obtaining the RCM for their chargers, unlike the vast majority of the non-brand name alternatives on Amazon. (Though I noticed this specific product page doesn't mention the RCM… the ones I received definitely have the mark.)

I would recommend everyone to give Zyron a wide berth for falling behind those two in terms of reliability and safety standards.

Real question - what makes you say Zyron is now behind Heymix and Lencent in terms of safety?

I've had Heymix in the past - and have had them fall apart on me. But that was years ago, so I wouldn't know if they've improved their quality.

          • @shake: I have friends and relatives who continue to use and purchase Heymix and Lencent products in spite of prior safety issues simply because "they're cheap and good enough". It's been quite a few years and nothing bad has happened to anyone I know thus far (fingers crossed), which is somewhat of a surprise given their past track record.

Heymix and Lencent products still get recommended on OzB sometimes and I haven't seen any actual complaints in the comments in recent times as well.

Funnily enough, nobody I know uses Zyron, but there are enough complaints about Zyron failures on OzB for me to stay far far away. Zyron claims that they use the same manufacturer as brands like Anker, but at least Anker has the decency to issue public product recalls when something goes wrong with their chargers.

I know for a fact that Zyron had sold chargers in the past that can potentially turn into fire hazards when dropped. But I have never seen a product recall made public from Zyron, which speaks volumes about their integrity.

Local Aussie business or not, I don't think anybody should do business with someone who doesn't owe up to their past mistakes. ESPECIALLY if those mistakes are lasting, probably still exists somewhere out there, and can potentially be life-threatening to others.

            • @anonym: can confirm i've had no issues with a few heymix products i've purchased.

Was surprised to see the comments back some months whenever heymix were posted about people joking they'll get a firestarter haha.

            • @anonym: Ok fair enough. Thanks for detailing your perspective.

I know for a fact that Zyron had sold chargers in the past that can potentially turn into fire hazards when dropped

Mind elaborating? I mean, you’ve heard from people who have experienced this?

Perhaps I should be worried about my Zyron chargers!

              • +1

@shake: Not from Zyron customers who have experienced this - it was from an unexpected private message from someone that I never thought I'd hear any such information from, actually, which adds to its credibility.

The source did specifically mention that they will not share further details on public forums due to a rather wonky "reason" that I do not necessarily agree with, but I will respect their wishes in this regard.

@shake: Don't worry about your Zyron chargers, our credibility or our customer service. We have grown 12 times in last 4 years which wouldn't be without any of these 3. We have served Australian schools, colleges and businesses. We always monitor the type and number of failures and we act accordingly.

In regards to Safety and reliability standards questioned above, each and every Zyron charger is listed in EESS register and has complete certification. The products that need AS6238.1 testing, are specifically done from CNAS approved lab. There is no cutting corners for Zyron when it comes to safety.

Products from same factory as our Powastone range are sold in Officeworks and JB Hifi by other brands.
Products from same factory as our current Powerpod 67W and 100W range also manufactures for Acer & Spigen
Products from same factory as Powaforce 68W, 100W and Powerpod 140W also manufactures for belkin, Alogic, Satechi, Amazon & many more
Product from same factory as our new PowaStellar 140W power bank also manufactures for Alogic. Plus we use cells from world's number one 21700 manufacturer EVE energy.

It's not only about the factory, we care to customize these chargers with latest Navitas chipsets used by Anker also, unlike the other CN brands who use CN gan chipsets. This is the reason our chargers don't get as hot as others because they are built with high efficiency chipsets.

In regards to our credibility, the above mentioned "sold chargers in the past that can potentially turn into fire hazards when dropped". That was the one and only complain we received for old 140W charger and we immediately notified our customers as a proactive measure to advise us if they face similar issue and in past 2 years no such case repeated for us to take any action. Regardless we still discontinued it and brought a new 140W charger from same factory as Belkin, Satechi and Alogic chargers with the latest Navitas gan 5 chipset currently sold on our website.

For the other mentioned issue of melting of 100W travel charger to previous thread, is from an old batch and the ratio of such failure is 2 out of 3000 units in past 20 months.

Apart from these, we had one incident 3 years ago where some travel plugs of old Powerpod 100W travel chargers were falling apart. We immediately notified each and every customer to stop using them and we replaced those plugs for 500+ customers. More than 50 customers contacted us where their old 66W charger died in 13 to 15 months although warranty was 12 months. We still replaced each and every 13 to 15 months failure who contacted us. Note that both are discontinued too as failing in 13 to 15 months was below Zyron's acceptable standards.

Zyron has and will always act as required. This is the real picture.

                • @ibelievesyd: Thanks for sharing this info with us.

For now I will continue to use my Zyron travel chargers - in my own personal experience they feel more solid and better-built than any of my previous non-brand name chargers.

I'm not an electrical engineer, so can only comment from an everyday consumer point of view - for me, what I like about Zyron's products:

                  • good functionality at a reasonable price point (especially compared to other retail brands sold in brick-and-mortar stores)

                  • local certification with RCM - yes I know many/most of these chargers are manufactured in the same factories, but the fact that Zyron has gone through the process of obtaining the RCM gives me some assurance, or at least, less of a pot luck

                  • Australian business - supporting local business operators, but also (hopefully) less hassle/debate over coverage under our consumer laws

                • @ibelievesyd:

Sounds perfectly fine on paper, but that doesn't change the fact that there still exists Zyron chargers in recent, active use that fail to fail safely (i.e. burning / smoking).

That does not instill confidence in me as a consumer, and it demonstrates that not enough is being done to protect all Zyron customers both past and present.

Don't worry about your Zyron chargers, our credibility or our customer service. We have grown 12 times in last 4 years which wouldn't be without any of these 3. We have served Australian schools, colleges and businesses.

Woah hey, that's a mighty lot of clout you're swinging around there, big guy.

You've been talking big since we last had a discussion, so explain to me why Zyron chargers are the only brand in recent memory to receive reports of early and more importantly, catastrophic failures on OzB when plenty of other charger brands don't? If you're the only brand around that doesn't cut corners, why are there still so many complaints? Are your certifications all for show? You can talk the talk but not walk the walk?

                  • @anonym: If I have to show you that others have had far more catastrophic failures in past and also in recent times then your research is quite one sided with a clear goal of attack one brand and clear others easily. Sorry but I will not be taking part in this anymore.

                    • @ibelievesyd: I've spoken well of Zyron in the past when you cleared things up in a previous discussion.

Which makes it all the more horrifying to find out that Zyron chargers are still liable to fail catastrophically in 2025.

I mean, what's the point of obtaining all those certifications if it doesn't prevent things from burning up?

  • +5

Recently traveled with 3 of these. Used on various voltages and various frequencies.

Nothing complained. Laptop was happy. Gopros happy. Phones happy.

    No issues from me.

    • Thanks for the feedback. Did it support the fast charging for your phone?

      • +1

I have fast charging disabled on all my phones. Im all about battery health and I only charge once per day anyway.

But it did charge the laptop at full speed, so that means it was able to do the full 65W it promises.

Dells quickly complain if something is funky with the power input.

I own a few similar Zyron products, never had an issue

  • Looks to be selling for the same price on Amazon

  • I have ordered 2 of these both have gone faulty literally after the 12 month mark. Absolute trash. Go Ugreen or anker. Amazon sales are good. I think UGREEN is superior asf
