It's not for me, but I believe sub $190 is a fairly good price for this backpack.

  • I read good things about this bag but I'm interested in the wheeled version but there doesn't seem to be a local seller that it at a sale price.

The deals you linked are from 2020.

      • They're just examples. But there are other deals ~$130. Just wanted to know if they're fundamentally different or not, not whether it's due to the time of the deal which is irrelevant to my question.

          • +4

@anonym: Nah, I wasn't trying to come off as asinine. I'm literally curious if there's any difference between the deals where it goes ~$130 or not.

Yes it has gone on as $196 but Ozbargains posts for worse deals than ATL can still be posted because it's up to the people to decide.

Again, I'm just asking if the models are different in any way. So far I haven't received an answer that may explain such huge discrepancies aside from "time."

@marshmall0w2: You literally posted two deals from 2020, and you're using these two examples specifically from 2020 to highlight how much of a piss poor deal the current bargain, because of pricing?

Anyway, the difference that I can see is the colour. However, if you really want to know what has changed - in terms of the nitty gritty, then it's up to you to do your homework to work out whether the Farpoint 40 backpacks from 2020 (that you highlighted) are substantially different to current Farpoint 40 models. You'll be able to then work out whether there's enough differences to justify the "huge discrepancies aside from time".

Anyway, thanks for posting OP - I'm sure somebody will find the post useful. I have this backpack from - I'd say 2017-2018 and it's served me very well for previous overseas trips. Can be a bit tedious, as you really have to work out what is essential to bring overseas, but when in use, it's absolutely amazing :)

@eltito: Cheers mate, it's nice to have a civil discussion with someone who's not a screaming baby.

I purchased this backpack from the last deal and it's not for me. My daily driver is an Inatek 42L backpack and I stuff it full to the absolute seams. When I tried switching to the Osprey 40L I could barely get half of my items to fit - the support frame took up way too much space and the backpack itself is also surprisingly unweildy compared to the very straightforward simplicity of the Inatek.

@marshmall0w2: there was an update to these bags in 2023… I think. Overall pretty minor changes.

Like everything else though these bags have gone through price increases, you are not getting those 2020 prices in 2025.

@GUYANDSON: Yep just researched and found this to be the case. They were updated in 2022. Not sure if for the better or for the worse like Samsonite where I had the B Lite 5 old and new and the new had seams bursting, cloth wrinkled, handle jiggly, zipper hard, and buttons low quality.

Something happened around 2020 that stopped people from travelling and the stock in the warehouse of travel backpacks was gathering dust. Masks and sanitisers were running off the shelves instead….

  • its good, but overpriced. you can find similar bags for a lot cheaper.

    • Recommendations?

    • Not as contoured nor as comfortable as this. I bought the carribee 40L one but when full it's nowhere near as comfortable as this one.

Carribee one is great for interstate light travel but once it bulks up this is the one if you are going to be hiking around a lot without a vehicle.

Great bag! Used it for Euro and Asia travel. Love how it fits into the upper compartments on the plane so you don't have to pay for baggage on budget airlines.

    • This bag is far too big for free carry on, for Euro budget airlines

I went on Ryanair etc and they didn’t budge an eye.

      • Yeah it obviously won't be considered a personal item carry on and I'm sure the people bringing it on Ryan Air have paid for the "Priority Boarding" overhead storage :)

Osprey are buy-it-for-life quality and awesome customer service. If there are any issues with the bag, they repair or replace for free.

I had a few broken zipper pulls on my Osprey Porter that is 10 years old and contacted CS. They asked me to snap a photo, fill a form and I had new pulls in under a week.

At this price, this is definitely a bargain. We have 3 of their bags across my family and we can easily do a weekend away with just carry-on (me, wife and two kids) using two of these bags.

I'd buy another one (because OzBargain), but I can't wear out my old ones enough because they will keep fixing them!

    • Just be aware that the warranty in Australia isn’t as good as the US version since you deal with the supplier here. Can’t comment on this model but be aware that on some of the newer ones with waterproofing (like the Talon) that this starts to delaminate after a while which is disappointing… There’s a bit on reddit about it. Mine has started to do it (gets sticky and crumbly)… But that bag has gotten a workout so I’d probably still buy another (although prices have really gone up in the last 5/6 years).

    • Heavy for the capacity though if you’re going one-bag or wearing it on your back a lot.

  • Greaf price. These are great for short trips and to carry on budget airlines

I have this bag, quality has been solid but I find it hard to get all the settings to a point that is comfortable on my shoulders. If I could go back I'd probably go somewhere I could try the bags on first before pulling the trigger

I have switched from onebagging with a Farpoint 40 to the Daylite 26+6. The capacity of the Farpoint is sadly wasted due to the strict 7 kg carry-on limits of airlines in our region, meaning you can generally only half fill it.

    • looks nice. i was thinking if i could get away with taking my daylite plus instead of my farpoint 40 on a warm weather trip.

    • I have the 26+6 and find it to be a fantastic bag for flying. Great as carry on if you also have checked luggage but enough space for a 2 day trip with no other bags. I love how you can fully open it up which makes packing/unpacking easy

  • Has anyone used this for the budget airlines in Europe? Or Scoot?

    • it might be too big for ryanair. scoot no problem as you can take upto 10kgs carry on.

  • +3

Travelled around Europe with the same bag. Never asked about it's size on any plane, including ryanair

    • +1

You got lucky with Ryanair, this bag is more than double the volume allowed for their carry on.

  • Paid $60 more for this a few months ago for a japan trip and still happy with my purchase.

  • Can this be attached the carry on luggage? it doesn't seem to have

  • Fantastic price for a great bag. I paid $300 and was totally worth it, used it as my one-bag travel in Italy for a month

  • I enjoyed travelling with this bag and sold it during COVID. I've recently been looking at a new travel bag roughly a similar size and actually just bought this one today after research and seeing it go on sale for prime day.

It's around $80 from Decathlon directly but down to $52 via their Amazon store

  • Showing 316 for me.

  • Is it expired? Showing $316.95
