I’ve had this bag for about 3 years, and I’m still finding hidden pockets!

    • +7

you can put your weed in there

      • +4

a lot of people don't know this

  • +4

paid $125ish for this, still have yet to take on it a trip!

  • Also up to 10% cashback with Cashrewards? Not sure which category it falls under…

  • +3

My uncle has one of these and its pretty comfy to wear on daily trips. Picked up one, thanks OP

  • +7

These are a great brand. I have a 100 litre 2 wheeled travel bag and recently got another one cabin bag sized with zip away pack harness, 2 wheels and handle. That way I can use the bigger one as check in bag, the smaller as carry on. Put the small one on my back when I have both, or wheel it when I only have it.

      • +11

Just sharing the way I use them. I hadn’t realised there were good quality bags that had wheels & handle and also a pack harness. I had been lugging a heavy day pack around airports which is a sod when you’re tired.

  • +3

Thanks OP, grabbed one. Going by the photos it's the updated model too.

  • -1

    What does it weigh?

    • +3

If you click the link, you'll notice it says 1.36Kg

  • +1

    Thanks. Bought one

  • I'm wanting to start doing 2-3 day hikes, carring a lightweight tent etc. Is this too small for that?

    • +1

I've done it with a smaller bag, 2 days that is, but it is dependant on how you pack and where you hike I guess.

    • +4

This is more a travel bag than a 'hiking' bag. It's essentially a suitcase shaped in a backpack. You'll need to buy some packing cubes to better organise your stuff.

    • +4

This is not a hiking pack, it's a travel pack with a fairly good harness for a travel pack. If hiking you will want something with a better frame/harness.

      • +1

Thanks everyone for your responses. I guess this wouldn't be suitable for my needs.

        • +4

Coming in with an alternative point of view.. I own this pack, and while admittedly it's not strictly a hiking pack, I've definitely used it a couple of times for the odd day trip, and it's definitely comfortable and lightweight enough. Pretty versatile pack, IMO.

    • +2

Hey mate - everyone will have different sized gear, but don't forget you can always strap shit onto the outside.

For a lightweight tent, -3°C sleeping bag, sleeping pad, pillow, jacket, food fuel etc, I reckon you could get away with a well designed 35-45L pack.

Best bet would be to get your stuff together, take it into a shop and try on a few different models, see how it fits and see how the weight is distributed.

Have a look online at a few videos to see how a backpack is fitted (store workers should know this, but on minimum wage many don't give a (profanity)) - essentially you want around 80% of the weight on the hip belt and the rest on the shoulders.

Osprey is kind of a catch-all bag making company. They make great products, but also keep an eye out for Gregory, Lowe Alpine and One Planet.

  • +2

Been wanting this for ages but doesn't look like id be able to get any use of out of it given the state of international travel these days. Damn

  • +6

For all the ladies, the Fairview version also on sale at $87

As i understand it, Fairview is female version of Fairpoint as it comes in smaller sizes and brighter colours

    https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B06VV8FVPT/?coliid=I1Q3YRF4ZGRH…

    • +2

Thanks for the Fairview link. I bought the Fairview 40 to share between members of the family - men are of small build, women petite. Hopefully it fits both men and women well!
Also, the olive grey colour looks nice, getting tired of black luggage.

      • Ditto. Just bought one for my wife. I have a farpoint 40 and it’s so good for trips that don’t require you to carry camping gear. Perfect for most backpacking adventures

    • Thanks! I ordered the S/M version of the Farpoint because I forgot the Fairview existed.

Doesn't seem like there's a huge difference between the two but I cancelled the order for the Farpoint and ordered the Fairview instead.

      • +1

The difference is in the positioning of the harness as women tend to have a shorter torso than men.
This link should be to the part of a video review where the two models are compared.

    • +1

Thanks, been eyeing off these bags for a good year and a bit, finally jumped on this one 😬

      • As have I. Thanks OP.

  • +2

Great backpack for carry on only travel.

People have a gripe about where the laptop storage is but I don't find it to be a problem.

    • +1

Most full airlines allow carry on, laptop bag (of reasonable size) and often a camera bag too as carry on. Obviously budget airlines are more restricting.

      • I have had a carry on and a separate laptop bag and they never bothered to check it. Once in a while they would weigh my hand carry but they never include my laptop bag.

    • +1

Yeah probably great for travel, i use two laptops and for a daily driver the laptop positioning is a deal breaker for me (or a back breaker maybe).

      Good overview here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pa_iUaIHklM

    Fantastic price, thanks!

Missus has the Osprey Mira, used it a lot. Build quality is really good (been through quite a few bags over our hiking around various countries over the last 15 years) This one seems to be holding up the best so far!

Don't see hiking over seas anytime soon though. Bah.

    Looking forward to this!

  • +1

Had my eye on this backpack for a while now. Thanks OP bought one!

  • Prime only as shipping at $50+ kills the deal

    • +5

      Would you pay $7 shipping?

If so, sign up to prime for one month, it's $7…

  • +4

elite bag, traveled with it for about 5 months and had no complaints, lots of space and compartments, easy to make adjustments on the straps. you'd save the ~$95 on check-in luggage real quick, assuming you'll ever be able to fly again

  • +5

They also have the Farpoint 55, which comes with a detachable daypack, for $114.93: https://www.amazon.com.au/Osprey-Farpoint-Travel-Backpack-Vo…

Great pack for when you need the extra space. Leave the main pack at the hotel and take the daypack when you leave.

    • +1

As well as the 70 Medium LArge for $138.96

      https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B014EBKYDS/ref=emc_b_5_t?th=1&p…

    • +1

i backpacked with this for months, top tier bag. biggest issue is when bags are full you will struggle to put daypack on back but you can attach the daypack to the front of you which is an amazing feature to balance the weight (also lets you keep an eye on valuables). the 40 might be better as you can take it carry on, if you dont need the extra space/weight and use one of those rollup daypacks instead

  • What would everyone suggest for my 14 year old son? He’s around 170cm. We are planning on doing the Great Ocean Walk with me carrying a majority of the gear.

    • +1

you probably want something a bit more waterproof. if you are buying a bag specifically for it maybe think about how much you are planning to carry and go down to your local camping store and try out different bags with that volume

    • +2

As is mentioned above, this is more a travel bag. If walking get something with more of a frame and harness that'll keep the bag better positioned.

Missus has the Mira, the bag is great! Check out hiking bags over travel bags. Days of hiking you're busy will thank you for the proper bag

    • +2

Everyone above is correct, but for reference - I've taken the Farpoint 55 on 8 and 5 night treks in the Himalayas and Andes respectively. The bag is plenty comfortable once you've got the harness properly adjusted to your body (just don't overpack!). You can also buy waterproof covers for bad weather.

You can find packs that are tailor made for hiking, but you're going to have to pay, and the added benefit is marginal. This pack is surprisingly versatile.

  • Anyone know what's the difference between the sizes S/M and M/L? The both seem to be 40L capacity?

    • +1

I'm pretty sure it's the spine length. As in the straps that go over the shoulder are longer so are better suited for taller people.

Same bag, longer body for the straps and harness.

    • +2

They are different torso and hip sizes with 2 ranges for each. I suggest you measure torso size and liliac crest to get the right range for you.

      15-19 inch is s/m
      38-48cm

      18-22inch is m/l
48-56cm you need to measure so the bag will fit your torso and back correctly.

    • +2

If you have a look at the osprey website and scroll to the bottom it says the S/M is actually only 38L.

      https://www.osprey.com/au/en/product/farpoint-travel-pack-ca…

      • Ah I see. Thanks.

  • +2

Start of the year I paid around 100 or so for this bag and still haven't used it, think it was the wiggle deal feeling a little ripped off now lol

    • +1

      I remember holding back then!

      • +1

Just did the math I paid 112 in Jan 2020 shipped, went halfs with another ozbargainer then covid hit and all trips were off lol

    • +2

I think I posted that lol. I actually didn't buy it then… Might jump on this one though 👀

  • +2

    Great bag :)

  • This is a fantastic deal. We have been using these packs for years, brilliant.

  • Saying it can't be delivered to my address

    • Same with me. I tried my home address and parcel locker. Shame because I have been wanting to get one for a while.

  • +1

Awesome! This’ll make a good day pack. Thanks OP.

  • If you want similar with wheels and handle as well, the ones I linked to in the 14th comment are good. You might need to hunt around to find a good deal. I paid up over $200.

  • Anyone have recommendations for packing cubes?

  • +3

I love this pack, had it for 5 years and travelled to about 40 countries using it. Only thing is you can't stick a drink bottle into the mesh pockets very well if the bag is full. Wish they'd make those larger.

    • +1

Not sure why you got down voted, every review agrees with you

  • Pay attention to laptop position people, I love osprey packs but I suspect it'll be a dealbreaker for some

    • +1

It is a valid point, it will be so heavy and off-balance with 15" laptop and tablet. Unless you carry a small laptop like MacBook pro.

      • I was about to buy then watched a video someone shared above. My X1 carbon is no pushover but I'm thinking with a full load and the right drop it'd snap like a crocodile.
        edit: https://youtu.be/YA_FInqp0tw?t=230

        • More reasons to stop impulse buys. I still have a brand new Mountain Designs 65L Jetset Travel Pack still kept in box that I purchased from 2017 LoL.

          • @azm: Well I bought 4 osprey cyber daypacks back in 2017 when they were clearance stock. No regrets on the pack, the three spares went almost immediately when friends tried mine. Do however regret the 2000 hrs it took me to pick a pack and wait for a deal..

  • +3

Yeah, look, this is a legit bargain at less than $100. Went around the world with this pack as carry on. Will not regret this.

  • +2

Has this shipped for anyone yet? I'm still waiting for a shipping notice. Been 5 days

    • +2

      Same for myself:
Order received: We will email you when we have an estimated delivery date.

    • +1

I purchased it on the 31st and it shipped on the 2nd.

    • +1

Still waiting for mine as well

    • +1

mines stuck in the same status since 31st…. Order received: We will email you when we have an estimated delivery date.

  • +2

Thanks op, ordered one on 29th. Still waiting on shipping

  • +2

I received mine today. Holy hell, it’s huge. But it’s very comfortable when all the straps have been set up.

  • +2

    Ordered 31st and just shipped

    • +1

Mine just shipped also. I’m glad it’s being fulfilled as I actually had a need for this, compared to lots of the things that OzB has influenced me in purchasing.

      • +1

Yes! same here. I was actually scared they weren't gonna fulfill since its my first time buying out of stock. Hopefully it will make a good investment! #onebag
